Yes... it's not a jet, but the Spitfire is arguably one of the most iconic fighter aircraft ever built.

@Illusionary Its okay, there have been already 2 non jet fighters in this one but its cool since its still a fighter aircraft

DCS A-10 is what i prefer. But there are also flight modules similar in FSX and other simulators, I Find DCS to be the more satisfying and realistic simulator.

Yup, DCS A10C Warthog is awesome and technical.  Very satisfying to roll in on a SAM site, take it out, and live to fly home without using the fire extinguisher or 0/0 ejection seat.  Definitely a study simulator, just like my fav of all time the Falcon4 series (F16C), which I'm currently running BMS-4.32U7.

Back in December I upgraded my rig just for these two sims; bought a new gaming rig, 27" IPS monitor, TM Warhog HOTAS, TrackIR5 and clip, RedRose headset/mic, and Saitek Pro Combat pedals....been loving the DCS A10C and BMS F16 even more ever since.  Still have my old X-45, which works and is probably 15-years old now.

Good stuff...especially the dynamic campaign in the F4 series.

Good day!

How could I have forgotten the P-51 Mustang and the P-47 Thunderbolt? Most modern planes today pay homage and incorporate the doctrines of these 2 planes.

I'm tempted to buy the Warthog HOTAS, but I can't bring myself to shell out that kind of money for a controller, nor do I have the space.

Is it worth it?

If your into hi-fi flight sims and like to fly combat alot, which seems you are, I'd say unequivocally yes!  Worth every single penny.

The stick is sooo smooth and precise, like butter.  It's made of a metal alloy, which is very nice.  Makes the whole experience very immersive and I almost never need to take my hand off the stick and throttle, as 99% of the necessary switches are on the throttle, stick and throttle base.

The thing is heavy as hell too...that with the very wide and thin stick base helps keep it planted.

It's costly, I paid $490 from Amazon with overnight shipping...but I would have kicked myself if I purchased the Saitek X-65 Rhino, even at half the price.

I Agree completely here. I Want that stick so badly, But honestly it's way to much for me.

I Think before anything i will buy a yoke for FSX just because i also do commercial flying sometimes :P

reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

It was Ralfidude which got me into DCS, but exams coming up, and the fact that I don't like American aircraft means I don't play it often. But damn, theres nothing like dodging an R-73 or R-77, LOVE IT!

Once the Eurofighter module gets released by VEAO I will not move from my computer.

@Inseri Nice choice from the halo series, i myself would've gone with the slip space superiority fighter that you get to use in reach.

@Drdetroit what kind of job do u have that allows you to make that type of money? The warthog is currently the premier stick on the market, freaking $500 for one of those if you look on saitek's site. Yeah have to agree with you there, DCS is a fun sim and a casestudy if your really into jet fighters and love simulator's too.

@Talorswift i hear u, its not like all of us can afford that type of stick. I could barely scrape enough together and i sill have to clear some space in my room to setup a new gaming tower if i ever get enough money to build my own that is.

@Seahawk i have a question for you: why do u not like america aircraft? just wondering, it is your preference after all

I bought my HOTAS for just under $500 with overnight shipping, my whole rig and all ancillaries was about $2100...including overnight delivery for all items...which was costly but I couldn't wait a week for regular delivery.

I'm a banker with 90% commission income, musician and studying engineering as well...and had one hell of a 4th quarter closing deals.  Hitting 6-figures,income wise, allows me to indulge in many activities and hobbies without worry or stress about money...although many of my buddies are hitting the 7-figure income range - an old friend just bought his dream car - Lambo Murcielago, so a nice gaming rig isn't too out of hand.  It's a very tough business, competitive and stressful as hell, so much so that I sometimes see men and women crying before quitting or getting fired...but banking does have its incentives.

Anyhow, military A/C and firearms are a passion of mine and mid to hi-fidelity flight sims like DCS and F4-BMS are as close to flying one I'll ever get...so I want to do it right.

Well, I think the approach the US has for aircraft and the European approaches are very different, the Europeans develop aircraft such as the Tornado and the aircraft wings tend to have a smaller profile, the fuselage tends to be smaller, furthermore they've always had the single tail-fin, whereas American jets are really big, the F-14 is huge, as is the F-15, F-22 & F-35. The F-16 & F-18 however have much smaller fuselages and their wings aren't as triangular as the F-15's. I'm sorry, I'm trying to think of the technical word to describe the different wing types but I cannot think of it.

Now the Europeans have shifted to delta-wing designs to make the aircraft more unstable, making them good at within visual range combat. The Rafale, Mirage 2000, Saab JAS 39 Gripen & the Eurofighter all have delta wing designs. This makes them better at dogfighting, whereas the US F-22 Raptor has thrust vectoring to achieve the same high AOA's and same performance.

The US tend to rely on the fact that they'll shoot down the enemy beyond visual range, thats what makes the raptor so good, it can shoot and kill before the enemy knows it's there, however if it then ends up within visual range the pilot has to work much harder to ensure he doesn't get shot down. Like the F-15, it was really good at dog-fights because it can keep itself out of harms way by firing before the enemies had a chance.

I think also being from the UK, I feel more love for the aircraft that we've made because of the proud aviation history that we have, especially since nations have underestimated our military strength and cunning, and we've managed to positively surprise them, I read stories of the Vulcans performance at the Red Flag, and the Buccaneers performance at the Red Flags as well. More recently a USAF F-15 was trying to engage in a mock battle with a twin-seater Eurofighter and they apparently lost. It's little stories like that, because here, unlike the US, there isn't the same sense of patriotism and the military often receives the most negative criticism from the media and public, I just love it when they prove all the nay-sayers wrong.

**This is my opinion, I am not a pilot (yet) nor have I received the performance details from the DoD or from the MoD, I'm just basing my opinion on my existing knowledge of aviation & frequent reading of military aviation articles. I respect the USAF and their aircraft, they are outstanding ( I just prefer the RAF and their aircraft) :) **

@Drdetroit thats a pretty good job and a nice rig too. I also have a passion for military A/C's and weapons systems. Yeah thats very true, we on the civilian side of things will never get the chance to sit in the actual cockpit and feel the adrenaline of trying to dogfight with an enemy airrcraft. The only way we can ever do that is in sims like those two.

@Seahawk It depends on your point of view and how you look at things even with your opinions and knowledge. I'm in the same position as you or anyone else thats in this topic will really ever get to be in as far as military aircraft go. No offense to everyone else btw,

If we're doing under-appreciated aircraft, I take your F-5 and raise it with one of my personal favorites—the F-105G "Wild Weasel" Thunderchief.

And the swedish multirole aircraft Jas-39 Gripen

Here's the JAS-39 in action:

Also, if you like planes, I would recommend Wargame Red Dragon, there are lots of planes in there.

@Iovkal The F-4 is one of my secret favorites, while its engine's have a pretty good speed in my opinion of course. I still have a love for the f-4 and the F-5 as well as the modern ones and the older ones going back to the F-14 and the F-86 Sabre

Ah, I completely forgot the F-86 Sabre. I've always loved that one as well. I actually had a chance to see it at Oshkosh flight show last summer, loved it (The F-14 is still my favorite though).
