What Did You Want To Be As a Child? Now, What Do You Want To Be?

Featured Replies

As children, a lot of us wanted to be something cool, something unique, something fun, something exciting. We wanted to be an astronaut, a firefighter, a police officer, a secret agent, a super-spy, a cook. Not everything goes to plan, and some things end up being changed as we grow and mature. What did you want to be as a child? Now that you've matured, assuming you aren't still a child (LOL), what career path are you following?

Feel free to post an (exceptionally sized) photo of your dream job as a child, and what you want to do now. You can also tell a little bit about yourself and why you wanted to choose the job, or something along those lines. You can use the spoiler function if the picture is large, though posting a picture is not required.

I've always wanted to be a soldier, since I was a little kid sitting at home playing with my toys and watching TV. I first remember when I became interested in the military. I was playing with my toys, and I saw a United States Marine Corps commercial on TV, the one on my profile and the one I've posted in the spoiler below. Obviously I didn't quite understand much about becoming a soldier at such a young age, but I thought they looked so cool. As I got older I did more research into the USMC, and I recently made the decision to lock my career path into the USMC.

I once wanted to be a police car. That didn't work out too well.

  • When I was younger I wanted to be a dinosaur. Then as I got older I set my aspirations lower and lower.I will probably end up on benefits and the Jeremy Kyle Show like everyone else on my council esta

when i was younger i wanted to be a s.w.a.t officer and still do.

Join California Department of Public Safety and become a part of the most realistic California policing experience in the GTA roleplay community.

When I was really young I wanted to be a soldier, but over the years I decided that I want to be LEO. Maybe a US Marshall if I don't end up going full retard in High School. I would like to be an emergency vehicle outfitter at some point in my life. *Last pic is rly big

As a child:

  • An architect
  • A car designer
  • An engineer
  • Owner of my own Nature Rescue Team organization (to save nature)
  • A courier
  • Owner of a car company

Now:

  • Still want to be an architect
  • Still want to be a car designer
  • Still want to be an engineer
  • A traffic cop

I'm very confused. I am actually a Toyota Corolla disguised as the world's tallest Hobbit.

As a kid I wanted to be either a race car driver or a construction worker (the ones that use the big machinery).

Now I don't have a specific career in mind but I'd like to do something tied to economics/politics in either Washington, Annapolis, or Baltimore.

As a child I wanted to be a firefighter and a police officer. Then after two cousins close to me enlisted into the Marine Corps I wanted to be a Marine, as I got older and had the opportunity to do navy jrotc at my high school I realized from many friends who are now Marines and my instructors that the Marine Corps wasn't the right branch for my personality, it just didn't fit me right. My best friend introduced me to what he always wanted to do: the world of military aviation, as I gained more and more interest in it (especially because one of my cousins I mentioned previously is a crew chief aboard UH1N/Y's) I started to focus more on that career path. After a while of researching I felt the best branch for me is the US Navy, up to today I am still working to become a US Naval Aviator.

Next year I will be attending a university majoring in flight and accumulating flight hours. Although I've grown to love the Navy's way of doing things, traditions and techniques I will go into whatever branch I can earn a pilot slot in. The common theme throughout my life, I've always wanted to serve my country and my community.

Thats pretty awesome, good luck to you. I wish you all the best, it's the most rewarding & prestigious career in the world (in my eyes).

I've got a very similar career path planned for me as well. So I will be going to university next year to study aerospace engineering, whilst I'm there I will join an RAF squadron for University students known as University Air Squadrons, there we accumulate flight hours and general RAF experience. After which I'm going straight to the recruitment office and signing up, committing a minimum of 12 years to my country and to the safeguarding of its allies. I would like to go into fast-jet, and get assigned a Tornado or a Eurofighter, preferably the latter. If I end up flying heavies I won't be at all disappointed.

Alternatively, there is the Royal Navy, but they'll be flying the F-35's and I'm not fond of those, I'd rather serve the RAF and fly our Typhoons.

After around 20 years I will move over into Civil Aviation and fly for our flag carrier British Airways.

An inspiring shot which keeps me motivated:

Then: Navy SEAL

Now: Navy SEAL

When I was younger I had no idea what I wanted to do, I just played like a child while it lasted.

Today, I still have no idea, probably an EMT or photographer.

When i was a kid up until 12 months ago i wanted to be a Police Officer. Now i'm working towards being a CSI.. so my career path hasn't changed that much, still working in the Law Enforcement field just with a different job.

If you want to me reply as soon as possible, then either quote or @CouthInk4  me as i'll be notified, a general reply will not notify me
