GTA V cops

Featured Replies

Been playing GTA V for a while now, and here is one thought I can take away from playing GTA V vs GTA IV.

I can't tell you whether they're "better" than GTA IV, but man they're sure fun as hell to try to get away from, it's by far my favorite gameplay part in GTA V.

In GTA IV you simply had to get away from the wanted circle for a few seconds and then you are done. That really made getting away from 6-stars impossible unless you have really good skills. And even when you were in hiding, the cops always knew the area where you are hiding, so you can't lose them just by hiding, which made it insanely difficult to get away from 6 stars(only the very good few can do it)

In GTA V though, each cop has a field of view new, and you must not be seen by the cop for a while. It takes longer to lose them, which means you have to hide somewhere fast, because they know where your area is, but you just have to stay out of the line of sight for a while(It sounds more difficult than it really is, tbh). It's definitely easier to lose them in hiding, as it's easier when the helicopters come to help, because they too have a field of view, and if you manage to stay away from the cops' view and the helicopter's view for a while, you're free. Be warned though, the cops do search the area and there is a small chance that they will find you in a corner, unless you are hiding like say, behind a large vehicle, like a van.

By far my favorite part of the cops is driving away from them. in GTA IV their goal was to wreck you at any cost. In GTA V, their new goal is to ram you. You let them, and your tires will lock, making it insanely difficult to turn the vehicle. What makes this part fun is, right when they're about to ram you, you make a sharp turn and then watching them crash into another vehicle, repeat. Even if it's just changing lanes on the road when they're about to ram you they'll swerve and lose position. It's definitely more fun than GTA IV cops to try to lose them. Thee cop cars have a lot more horsepower in this game, and I mean a LOT more horsepower, which I just really enjoy watching them gain on me, only to get so close to ram me, I change lanes on my motorcycle(life support basically, if you are on a motorcycle, when they ram you it'll take a while for your character to gain conscious, and they will shoot you until you're dead, so don't let them ram you on a motocycle!) and watch them skid on the ground and crash into another cop car.

That's all I have to say. What's your guys's thoughts?,

One of the things I like it's the fact that security guards are actually recognized as such and will help police .

The cops are better, the only improvement is to make them more realistic. On GTA4 they were awful marksmen, but on GTAV they are flippin Robocop or something. They have insane accuracy and if one cop sees you, every cop sees you. It also takes a good few shots to take them down. Also the ragdoll from IV is gone and I want it back now.

I think when it reaches three stars then the cops with body armor respond that's why its take a while to kill them, but nothing beats a headset lol

Even standard beat cops take 4-5 shots from a pistol, which is the kind of weapon you would draw first in lower wanted levels. Unless you get a headshot. I would like the kill ability of GTAIV with the finding ability of GTAV. But when you have a truck and are on the highway with 3* then you can have LOTS of fun

What JASONROCKS1998 said. I really miss the soft body physics from IV, It was a lot more fun to see people ragdoll when shot or hit, and it just felt a bit more realistic. sucks that they took that out. as for the chases, despite the LOS feature rather than knowing exactly where you are, it still seems a bit like the police can see through walls. For example, if I robbed a gas station and hid up in an ally behind a couple dumpsters which is about one hiding location out of 10 or 15 others, the cops would INSTANTLY come to my hiding spot when they arrive, and I was hiding before they even got there, It just seems like the first spot the cops search is a very close area of where you exactly are.

but don't get me wrong, still an improvement from IV.

One improvement that's beneficial for realism is tactics- i.e. cops in IV would just rush you and get killed instantly, but now in V they use cover much more often and seem to use group advances and cover tactics (at least from what I've seen when AI cops are fighting the AI Ballas in Grove Street. They use hand signals and drag injured cops into cover too I think. Also, the pursuit AI is much improved, and there seems to be a Lead cruiser system going on there. One criticism I do have is that even though they have batons and tasers they never use them, and an AI arrest for peds would have been good (it is a parody of excessive force, but there's still a need for realism)

They still do match every car in game with speed, though. I used a police car, but they still were going faster than me. Some Need For Speed bullshit right here. Another disappointment is that they don't patrol and do not arrest NPCs no more.

And I want those riot vans to actually transport NOOSE, not just block roads. Or at least that some police would actually seat in vehicles instead of acting all spider man, doing drive-by.

I like how they use hand signals. When I was playing with a modified save I was going around killing people and the Tactical Officers grappled down from the helicopter looking like a total badass, I was looking through the scope and one was signaling the others to move forward, until I shot him in the face.

I also like how they use spike strips. One time I was in a semi-truck going down the freeway taking out tiny cop cars and I hit a spike strip at like 100 mph and I spun out into the guard rail and got pinned in.

But, I don't like how they ram you in a chase. Even when your hauling ass down the road on a damn motorcycle. It's like, ''Suspect is pulling away. we gotta turn on the nitrous. 10-4 deploying nitrous.''

''A quiet man, is a thinking man. A quiet woman, is usually mad.''

I'm in two minds about them, I think they're 10x better intelligence wise about not running into fire but since they don't arrest anymore it begs the question if LSPD:FR goes ahead will we be the only cops patrolling and will we even be able to do anything since there's no arrest animations that can see? What with first person and tazers a lot of the work is done for us already but some critical parts seem to be missing unless they're inactive and buried in the games code. My scapegoat is always "Improved AI for the PC version".

Yet the female park rangers are gangsters.

It seems a little weird to me. It's better than GTA4 where cops and security would get into shootouts, but I'd rather have the guards bug out when cops show up.

Well, there sort of is. Just like in the original LCPDFR, there's an animation for a suspect putting his hands in the air and getting on his knees. I saw this as a random event in Blaine County, a cop was arresting someone and I had the option of letting it happen or freeing the man. The Officer said he was under arrest, and the man complied. Then Officer then called for backup which arrived, but when they got there they all just stood around. So we may have to arrest people like we used to in the first version of LCPDFR.

Maybe if GTA V modding is good, then modders can fix and add ragdoll

GTA V doesn't lack ragdoll, the game has an updated version of IV's. It's the fact NPCs die a lot faster is the problem, shooting anyone once will still make them ragdoll around.

I want a mix of RDR and GTAIV, where if you shoot someone in the leg, the fall over and when they get up they start limping. If you shoot their gun, it flies off into the sky, like some action movie. One cool thing is if you shot a cops pistol, they would try and retrieve it. I also want NPC's that take more than one shot to the leg and not die

It doesn't lack ragdoll, but it sure isn't soft body physics. Look at a comparison from IV to V, it looks a ton worse in my opinion. I liked the euphoria in IV, now it just looks like an animation more than physics. I do hope modders can figure something out, but it might require modding the games engine, so I don't know.
