"Driving Under The Influence" On A Bicycle?

Featured Replies

Recently, I've been curious and searched "Driving Under The Influence On A Bicycle". In my search I found stories of individuals being arrested for "Driving Under  the Influence" on a bicycle. Now, I was confused on this because a bicycle technically wouldn't be considered a "motor vehicle". One of my searches came up with information that stated "Driving Under the Influence on a bicycle has equal consequences as operating a motor vehicle while under the influence". What is your opinion about operating a bicycle while over the legal limit?

Bicycle Driving Under the Influence Laws: http://dui.drivinglaws.org/resources/dui-arrest-on-bicycle.htm

Bicycles are considered vehicles, even though they are human powered.  As long as you are on public roads, you abide by the laws that govern them.  Be it a car, truck, bicycle, unicycle, moped, scooter, Segway, whatever.  Bicyclists are required to follow stop signs, traffic signals, etc, so why not DUI laws?  Riding while drunk is just as dangerous as driving while drunk.

Well, it might not have an engine, but you are still operating it on the road. When you live in the middle of absolutely nowhere it won't matter that much if you're drunk as you'll only hurt yourself when something goes wrong, but in a city it can be a lot worse when you hit someone or fall in front of a bus or something because you're too drunk to drive in a straight line. Over here, you will get pulled over if the cops think you're drunk, which is probably a good thing, as Holland is (one of the) most densely populated country of Europe (or perhaps even the world. I can't remember) and we've got more bicycles than people. Don't ask how, but we do.

In germany its not allowed to drive a bicycle under the influence of drugs.

You can loose your license (Car) for this ....

(German traffic law is very strict about drugs)

Any person operating any vehicle that can be moved by a human, whether human-powered or engine-powered, under the influence of drugs or alcohol can be charged with DUI/DWI. That includes, but not limited to: golf cart, tractor, riding lawnmower, motorized coolers, motorized bar stools, cars, bicycles, hovercrafts, horses, motorbikes, ATVs, and boats.

My opinion, any of these modes of transportation, if not used properly, can injure, or even kill people. I wholly agree with the consequences that come with a DUI/DWI. I think that there was even an episode of COPS where they got reports of a man riding a horse dangerously, and they found him to be drunk and charged him with DUI/DWI.

You can loose your car license for operating another type of vehicle? That's very weird, sounds like loosing your car's license for doing jaywalking (I do it a lot, do not have patience to wait 99999 minutes on a traffic light with no car coming).

I've never heard of a motorized bar stool before. Sounds interesting.

One can still do decent damage while on a bicycle

A nine-year-old boy was injured on Wednesday night when his bicycle crashed through a building's plate-glass window.

The accident happened around 8:20 p.m. near the intersection of Hixson Pike and Tremont Street.

Police said the child received minor lacerations.

He was taken to Erlanger Hospital for treatment of his injuries.

If a kid can do that kind of thing, think of what an adult can do at triple the weight and triple the speed and triple the lack of brain function

We can't Stop here, This is Whelen Country.

Driving on a bike, under the influence of alcohol is public drunkness, or however it's called in English. But it won't be considered DUI since it's not a motorized vehicle. Only participating in traffic whilst under influence.

CLICKY

I have recently become part of Special Operations at my agency, part of my duties is DUI Enforcement, which I am very passionate about as I was hit by a drunk driver about 6 years ago at a checkpoint. However, I was shown a video of an officer (who is no longer with my agency) charge an individual with DUI on a Power Wheels, children's car...... a bit of a stretch and the State Attorney's Office almost filed on it and continued with the charged but ended up no filing it soon after..... Lol

Easily could kill you maybe even others if you swerve on the bike motor vehicles we stomp on their brakes and swerve away potentially causing an accident.

If your drunk you may even lose balance and fall into traffic. If it can cause death an accident or reckless driving I'd call it DUI
