Hatsune Miku debut on David Letterman

Featured Replies

This is right up my alley.

Hatsune Miku, a virtual diva from Japan, made her debut on American Television last night during her performance on the talk show, The Late Show with David Letterman. Miku has been featured in several American concerts before, including the opening act for Lady Gaga's artRAVE in June. She also has an upcoming expo, starting in the next few days in Los Angeles and New York.

Her concerts are absolutely massive in Japan, as one would expect, and she's slowly making her way onto the US stage. I think it's great she's finally getting attention elsewhere than Japan because the technology behind her is simply amazing.

Does anyone have any thoughts on this?

That was so awkward and cringeworthy.

As much as I love Miku, I have to agree. While it's wonderful she's getting attention outside of Japan, most of the American public has no idea how to react to her. I'm not sure they completely understand what is going on.

Is that so? AFAIK, british bands are more popular in Asia than Hatsune Miku. Maybe a handful of people know her there but I'm yet to come across her name in any asian audiophile forum boards.

She has her own fandoms here and there, but she's not exactly big outside of Japan so that's not surprising.

I don't understand the excitement of seeing her live in the beginning of the second video...it's no different from watching her on the internet. Either way it's just a video.

Seeing her live also includes a live band for her to sing along with, so think bigger than computer screen, think concert hall/arena/stadium big

I would love to go see Miku live :3

I Cant help but notice that you have referred a Video Screen with animated singing and a band playing over it as "she" multiple Times now.. my creep meter is beeping

also ithat video could not have been closed fast enough lol i regret pressing play..  like its cool that its big in Japan im glad some Record Company is making Money off of a Video Screen as a Singer but here in 'MURICA we prefer to have Real Chicks on stage lol more often than not wearing questionable Wardrobe choices,,,  (Regarding it "finally" being on American TV)

But wait for it.....

than again excuse my Ignorance.. im not trying to say people shouldn't like it or anything i would never say that.. but personally i don't understand what the big deal is and yeah it is quite awkward watching it.. trying to figure out what the hell is going on... even though i usually ask myself that anytime i watch something from japan (which is rare)

Edit: why in the hell is everyone referring this "Miku" as "she" and "her" has everyone here literally lost their marbles now is it official?

Because Miku is depicted as female...the same way you would refer to a female video game character or a female cartoon character as "she" and "her."

I Don't.. But Interesting Perspective None the less
