A question to all Moders/Modelers/Scripters... Whatever!

Featured Replies

This question is directed to anyone who creates Models, Writes Scripts, Makes Textures... You get the point! Anyway, here goes:

What introduced you to what you do? What was your inspiration/drive to make you start Making Textures and so forth?

I'll start:

I first started to play around in ZModeler when I started playing LCPD:FR and saw that I could make my own stuff. But I had no idea what i was doing, so I gave up. Then when I came to a YouTubing/Gaming group called Code Zero, I got to know Dillon (ASTTrprDillon95) and Scrimpy (ScrimpyData) and Kode (Kode103). After being given some tips about ZMod etc, from these people I started again, Scrimpy and Dillon gave me some stiff to work with and eventually I joined the Thin Blue Line Modifications and then I started releasing stuff. Now I'm attempting to learn scratch modelling, and Dillon says he will teach me Converting stiff soon!

So, what's your story?

-Danny

I Started off with all of the released unlocked stuff just like everyone else and asked a modder who was and still is my favorite (GFXLE from gtapolicemods) he was nice enough to help me out with parts first car i ever did (much GAD very wow) had an exclusive lightbar he made, i never released it because it was literally crap but i probably wouldn't have started without the help of him   If anyone's interested in just how terrible it was feast your eyes on this hot lop of crap lol

within a few months though i was starting to model my own stuff in zmodeler, and it took me just a few more weeks after that to start to learn how to convert    (Tip: put enough time into anything and you will succeed,  half assed effort bring half assed results)

Dammit! I spent 5-10 minutes trying to decide which was the correct topic for this...

The reason why I started modding is because I thought it would be cool to have your own modded content in game. I never asked for anything unlocked, and I followed the tutorials that were provided. I then started messing around with converting, learned to convert, now I'm converting full vehicle models. I can barely scratch make anything, but I hope to expand that knowledge. With knowledge of converting and scratch modeling, anything is possible.

I kinda started like XBR410, I wanted to make my local cars but haven't gotten around to doing them. Thanks to the tutorials by hlsavior and help from the community, I quickly learned how to use zmodeler. What keeps me going is the feedback on my downloads, I always want people to tell what is wrong so I can get better each time. I've been trying to convert cars for the last week or so but I don't know how to do shit...

if only more people had your opinion on criticism the download section would look a whole lot better

Well...

I had been interested in 3D modeling before I even touched GTA 4 on PC. Beforehand, I had just started doing graphic design, and I had been doing it for a few months before joining this site.
I lingered around for a bit on here, then I saw Forward had made this console for a vehicle. Back then not knowing any better, I was amazed at what I saw. Looking at Forward's creations is basically what started my entry into 3D arts.

Let me tell you, I sucked at first! After weeks of effort, I finally made my first Tahoe Storage Cabinet. I felt so proud of myself for doing this such simple task. At that moment I knew this was meant for me.

Slowly but surely, I started making more and more things in 3ds Max. I have been using it from the get-go, and it has served me well. It takes a lot of work and effort to get to my level of modeling.
I watch and read a lot of tutorials. Digital Tutors seemed to have helped me a lot, as well as Youtube. There are many websites like Polycount, Artstation, and Behance to get help and inspiration.

The are of 3D is vast. You have to learn, practice and do to get the results you want. Never quit. The more you do it the better you get. DO NOT QUIT MODELING. Do it till your ass hurts!

I study a lot of game modeling techniques, and I am a 2D artist so Photoshop skills come in handy too.

I feel like I have accomplished a lot of things, but I am not satisfied yet. Despite what you see I do, I am still learning and there are people 5x better than me when it comes to this subject.

I like my models when they are done, and the renders inspire me to make more things!

All I can say is watch tuts, do not rely on others to teach you, teach yourself, and PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE!!!

Tools I use:

2015 3DS MAX
Marmoset Toolbag 2
Mental Ray (sometimes)
Photoshop CC CS6 2014

Hope this helps, and good luck with the ishit iPAD! :P

First, my texturing started when I wanted to just have local P.D. textures on vehicles in-game, and I knew that it was fairly easy, so I wasn't going to ask anyone to make my textures for me.

I had Paint.NET, but never got texturing, until I learned how to do it with the template (thnx to a tutorial here, I think)

Second, I started modeling in zModeler, because I did know, that I can't/ shouldn't rely on other modders to make vehicles for me, whether they're for a clan pack, or for personal use, and I couldn't always rely on someone else to model vehicles all the time.

My vehicle modeling started with a simple join.me session with another modder who was willing to help me, with the very basic stuff, such as mapping ELS, etc.

He sent me the files of the exact same Charger I was trying to model at the time, to allow me to see how it was setup, with just one lightbar.

The next day, I just started modeling, following some tutorials on YouTube along with what I learned already, and I'm now here.

I feel I've accomplished what I've wanted (learning how to model vehicles, and getting them in-game with zero errors because of the model), but in terms of modding, I still need to/ would like to learn modelling in 3DS Max, scratch modelling, and possibly how to make peds.

I started modding, because I realized one true fact that is true for every modder for any game:

If you want to be fully satisfied with your game, you're going to have to have your own content in it. No matter what it is, there will always be something that you want, which no one else has made or done to your full satisfaction.

In my case, the DeLoreans for IV were and still are not done 100% properly. This inspired me to learn Zmodeler (very painstakingly) and figure out how to model vehicles into the game. So basically, everything that I do today (texturing, modeling, etc) is all thanks to there not being a proper conversion of the DeLorean DMC-12.

I am still yet to convert a better model that I have. My old one is my first conversion and requires many improvements.

I started recently because I wanted to make cars to my own style/design. But then stopped again due to the lack of decent and descriptive tuts out there. I have successfully made a car and got it into game but all the stuff kept disappearing and showing up away from the vehicles (someone said it was to do with resetting the axis) so once I can find a decent tut I plan on starting up again.

I blame Him1250! I basically joined Liberty Mod. because of him which made me think about creating skins and models!

I'd have to say it was being around big modelers such as Cj24, XBR410, Pengi, Chippy (the list goes on).

I Would have to credit him as well he helped me start off, doesn't change the fact that he pisses me off most of the time though lol

I started simply because I was keen to learn and do something I have never done before. I started learning from my good friend Naploen/Deco/Tim98. I did PM EVI once before hoping to learn something from him but his schedule didn't give him time to teach me... So I kinda learnt it myself... As time went by I started to play around with 3DS Max... Because I wanted to make stuff on my own... I would say I have to thank a number is people who provided support to me a long the way.... It's a small list... But whatever... KevinDV and Cj24 helped a lot... So did the now long gone aznairsoftdude... And I want to thank EVI for wanting to teach me then but couldn't... At least he wanted to lol....

I assume my story is the saddest, but i have to credit the community(you know who you are) for being so rude and nasty to me when i asked questions about modding and such. So i was destined to prove myself to those who put me down, and learned everything i can and through alot of trial and error, I now can do everything(except scripting). And most of my releases become featured. I taught myself to do thing that no one thought was possible, so in a way i'm grateful for the outcome.

I started modding after starting Area51Designs with Michael V to try and fill in the requests of many in the community before modding was a generally learned talent.

Credit definitely goes to Mike for motivating me and 0taku(00Stevo) for teaching me the basics and more. (yes, these were back in the mini-edge cvpi release days)

After learning basic zmodeler I became friends with Tim98, LCCop, and many others(especially those in Liberty Modding Studios) and friendships that still last today were formed those several years back.

From there on I met aznairsoftdude who taught me the does and do nots of modding, ironically exemplifying the do nots by the end of our relationship and from there on have became friends with Kevin, CJ, EVI and many more.

It is through some of those people that I learned modding, and eventually modelling(Both of which will always be an in progress development of talents). As well, it is through those people that I still am around this community as w/out them I would've peaced out of this often dick size comparison fest a while ago. But I am glad I met them, as through all the cons stands a lot of pros and whole lot of friendships, knowledge, and memories. <3

But above all, it's not just them. Everyone plays apart in everything in one way or another. From friend to foe, downloader to lead critic. Everyone is appreciated(kinda lol) in one way or another.
