So we all know that police and police2 are the cars that patrol liberty city.  My question is: is it possible to add in a patrol3?  Are there vehicle.dat lines that could be edited to add in a third model seamlessly to patrol the games with the other two types of cars?

No. Unfortunately, the game is hardcoded to only have police and police2 patrol (same with GTA V, it seems, assuming that the MX7000-based cruisers and the Liberty-based cruisers are the same model). 

Use added cars....

You can use a regular CIV car and make it into a police car, just change the .wft and .wtd file. For example, if the car name is Police.wft, change it to landstalker.wft, same with wtd. Then you change the ELS file. 

If you get the mod that installs the EFLC vehicles into the normal GTA IV, you can uses police3 and police4. Use a traffic spawner to get them in traffic. I can get police pursuits with a mix of police, police2, police3, police4, fbi, noose and polpatriot. Creates a nice mix.

There are scripts that will let it spawn in traffic with cops.

Just google "GTA IV Added Cars" & follow the 1st link for gtaforums.com topic "Add New Car GTA IV".

 

Name the .wtf & .wtd files police3, or police4. (If you want them to spawn in traffic, edit cargrp.dat, & add police3 or police4 to the Police group).

For the .wtf & .wtd files, you can try other non-IV names too, like cvpilcpd, chargerlapd, etc.  But the siren & the game reconizing it as a police vehicle is not guarenteed to work. Works for some people, doesn't for others (same with police3 / 4).

without add another mod/scripts you can only have 2 type of police vehicle patroling, but you can change what 2 vehicle patrol go to your game directory/common/data/cargrp.dat

open that as a text document and scroll toward the bottom you will see all the LE vehicles listed default police, police2 are in the first 2 slots the game will spawn what ever vehicles you put in those slots. i personally have policeb, polpatriot.

Adding police3 or police 4 to the cargrp file will not make them spawn in traffic (if they do, it's because they were loaded into the memory and glitch into traffic, without a driver, and not as police). As stated above, the game reads the file in slots. It will load the vehicles in the slots where police and police2 are by default.

There are scripts that will let it spawn in traffic with cops.
