70s-80s LAPD Van, haven't seen a pic of one before, no idea what is going on in front of it though, I think it's part of some celebration.

The pic is from 1983.

I think those dudes are dressed in Japanese samurai outfits.

I think it's funny that Connecticut rolls "kinda" unmarked. As in that there's no markings on the car other than the plate and the lightbar. Interesting. Anyone know why?

I still don't know the exact reason why but 2 years after I stumbled upon some interesting bits of discussion regarding CSP.

Quote

The state police union has long opposed marking state police cruisers because troopers take their cars home with them. Union President Robert Veach said troopers must comply with the request to use the signs when on duty, but said the union would object to permanent signs or to troopers' being ordered to use the signs while off duty.

Troopers have said they don't want to take marked cruisers home because they use them as family cars. Reaction to the signs has been mixed.

When I lived in New England in the 60's CSP cars were unmarked, with 2 little rubber grommets on the front & rear bumpers where they could put the little blue shield. We would speed down the Interstate, right until you reached the CONN border! Then, it was low & slow until you came out the other side. No one would speed in that state!

I recall seeing a guy speed past a white 2 door, Mustang IIRC. The driver put on his 'smokey' hat, flipped down his visor (which had his lights on it), got a HUGE grin, and took off after him. Everyone else drove even slower!

I'm not quite sure why none are marked. But they take the lightbar and shield off and use them as POVs..

Interesting.

I love that burgundy/brown '88-91 LTD Crown Vic on the bottom right.

It's interesting that they still used that old light setup they had since the 60s on it though, with the single red front lamp and the single amber lamp in the rear.

Here's a nifty little video.

Apparantly those little lolipops NYPD had in the rear were set up to flash with the hazard lights. Even the middle brake light flashed along with them. Although, notice at 2:17, the middle brake isn't flashing with the rest. I wonder why.

There's always a possibility that someone was bored and rhythmically tapping the brakes in that second bit. :D

On a sadder note, I was told that this footage was from the line of duty death of Housing Police Officer Gary Peaco.  The circumstances surrounding this case are tragic to say the very least.  City officers were involved in a shootout with armed robbery suspects.  After pinning the officers down with gunfire, two of the shooters stole the city RMP.  Officer Peaco's HAPD RMP was responding when it was struck by an NYC-EMS ambulance on an unrelated call, causing it to spin out, strike a lamppost and tree, and catch fire.

That Video is pretty dope. So, it seems they only started using Vector Lightbars in the Mid 90's...

Neat.

p.s., Are CVPI's now considered Vintage? XD

Yeah, the NYPD's Vision lightbars came out in the early nineties on the new generation of Caprice (1991-1996).  You could certainly consider the CVPI vintage - you can't get a sedan that's body on frame, RWD, with a V8 anymore, let alone one with bench seats and a column shifter!

Oh yeah I've seen it. It must've been posted in 2013, but filmed in 2011. The original was posted in 2011.

Dat Lightbar...

What Agency is that?

Kosciusko County Sheriff if I'm not mistaken, I actually wanted to make a BCSO pack inspired by that design earlier, what a coincidence that Lund posted it here.

Their cars are pretty sexy.
