LCPDFR Standalone?!

Featured Replies

Actually, a standalone would be a lot better. It wouldn't crash nearly as much. Reason? Because GTA4 can't handle mods. If there was a standalone, it would be able to handle mods making it more stable. +1

That would imply that we had the budget, much less the staffing capabilities, to make a standalone game. It takes over 1,000 people for each GTA. LCPDFR has 3 developers, and they are solely scripters/model editors. An entire map, as well as models and animations would have to be made, which there is no experience with on this team.

Sticks and stones may break bones, but 5.56 fragments on impact.

A standalone would crash a LOT more. Reason: Making a game is HARD. It's really easy for bugs to creep in; GTA itself has its fair share, and it was developed by a large group of professional programmers with years of experience.

What both of you said is slightly true. As for budget you guys have tons of supporters who I'm sure would donate. I honestly would, if I had the money to. And tons of people would probably be willing to help test the game for you guys. Trusted people, of course.

If they made the mod - AS IT IS - a standalone game, they'll probably be in jail by now.

Copyright infringement, you see.

I'm sure many people would donate and support this, as far as staffing there are many people who are already making mods for GTA IV that I'm sure would participate in a standalone

But would those supporters donate 100 million $? Because that's how much GTA IV cost to make.

This has been discussed before, and no it won't be possible unless you get several millions of dollars in funding. Besides, you can't use LCPDFR as that belongs to G17 Media.

As many stated here a stand alone game of LCPDFR isn't likely to come in the future any time soon. I think the "millions of dollars" is a tad exaggerated (Smaller games can go into the $100,000+ range), however getting the money and a team together to actually make/buy an engine is too much to ask for the team we have here (in my opinion at least). Not to mention we cannot use any of the models made by R* or anyone else for that matter without buying them, including maps, cars, textures, effects, etc.

In context it's about what I'd rather see. I'd rather see LCPDFR continue in the vast, open and alive world of Liberty City with professionally made models and textures rather than LCPDFR to end up like one of those German simulator games that popular YouTubers make fun of for being so terribly bad when the dev team had little to no budget (even if it's the most stable game you've ever played).

All in all, you had the right idea man but realisticly speaking, its a no go. That being said, I'll take my hat off to you for the suggestion

the funniest thing about this particular signature is that by the time you realise it doesn't say anything it's to late to stop reading it

While I would def be a supporter of this, as stated above wouldn't be possible without the right tools, though LCPDFR has all the supporters, no one actually wants to give money.

A realistic Police game would be fantastic, the Community could design their own copyrighted vehicles, lighting music etc, but that'd take years to do.

I'm going to have to agree with all the non-supporters of this as seen above, though it would be amazing if it could be done, it just cannot be. To many factors that would cost too much money to do, that the team just does not have. Not to mention if they put all their time and effort into making a standalone LCPDFR (which it could no longer be named that) then the actual LCPDFR wouldn't be able to be updated or not much in YEARS and YEARS. Like I said, I don't think it is actually possible for such a thing to come into existence, though it would be grand if it could, if not, at the very least, wont be possible for MANY and I mean MANY years, and by then there could be a GTA V LSPDFR which would be even grander than the GTA IV LCPDFR. I think we should just stick with LCPDFR for now. And if GTA V PC ever comes out and it is as moddable as GTA IV, then we could eventually have an LSPDFR which would be 1 billion times better. Sorry, but in my opinion, this is a hardcore no-go.

I agree that having a standalone version of the modification could be beneficial, but it simply won't happen.

It would need a fair bit of money to get rolling, and getting investors for a police simulator would be next to impossible. The G17 Media team would have to grow in number substantially and to be fair, the business potential in a such game is minimal.

Would love to see a LCPDFR standalone. Though not a realistic possibility anytime soon. Guess I'll just continue waiting for a Police based game like LCPDFR. I promise if i win the lottery or become a millionaire someday I'll come back and pick up the guys over at G17, and the amazing modelers, modders in this community to help create one!

a policing game would be nice if some game developer gets there head out of there ass and realize a true potential for a game like that..they have all kinds of military games but why not an open world police game? it wouldn't nearly get repetitive like most games and there would be always something to do oh well I guess well be able to kinda do that in watch dogs I will most definitely jack a cop car and patrol Chicago in it

I honestly agree with what all of the staff members are saying. If I would want to see anything, I would think we should come together to create some server system that is modifiable if all else fails in July and we lose our MP abilities.

The whole 'donation' thing is hogwash, we lack any community monetary support, you're lucky if we get $10/mo in donations. We even once had someone trying to chargeback a $5 donation.

I'm not exactly sure what you're trying to do. We've already said numerous times this won't be standalone. We don't have the time, we don't have the money and we certainly do not have the interest.

Any standalone version would have to be really crap (using crap like Unity) or 2D. Either way it wouldn't even scratch on what is possible with the GTA4 engine and it's not something which will happen from us.

Pointless exercise, if they care about money (which is all Rockstar care about), they'll patch G4WL out to ensure future catalogue and title sales.
