[WIP] Realistic Fed Q "Siren"

Featured Replies

Hello! I have just started working on a realistic Federal Q siren tone. This will be a SEPERATE "siren" from all police/ambulance vehicles in the game, and will only effect the fire truck (unfortunately as well as the Biff, Packer, Ripley and Trashmaster, unless you change them in the vehicles.ide to something else. This is inevitable due to how I am making the mod.) The siren will not exactly be a siren, but in fact an engine noise. I am making the Federal Q siren wind-up relate to the amount of throttle you are accelerating. For example, if your throttle is all the way down (being fully and actively accelerated), the siren will wind up. At idle it will be silent. Mid throttle will be mid-wound.

This is still very much a WIP, and I have just started on the project tonight. Stay tuned for updates. I have all the required sound files and programs to make this happen at this point, it's just a matter of time and trial and error.

Updates

**UPDATES**

Update 1: Fixed loop issue, loops smooth.

To Do

**TO DO**

• Increase sound volume to realistic siren volume

• Remove gearshifts from handling.ide/vehicles.ide (please inform me how to if you know how)

Interesting concept, I'm curious to see how it turns out. Keep us posted!

Thanks! I have a beta completed as of now. A few hiccups, though.

1. The siren is extremely quiet, gonna have to crank the volume of the WAVs waaaaaay up.

2. Gear shifts are annoying and reset the wind-up. Anyone who knows a work-around for this, please let me know!

Sorry for the bump, but here is a video better explaining the concept, showing the beta. As you can see, it is far from completion. I still have to fix the loop and the previously listed problems.

This is purely my opinion, but I do not like it at all.. Love the originality but this just isn't for me.

I think it is a wonderful idea, only one slight problem exists which is that the siren doesn't sound like the Federal Q shown in the video here

Again, this is an early beta/alpha at this point. I fixed the loop so it loops smoothly now. It sounds much better. I will upload a video later today after I get home from school.

I really like it and I look forward to seeing the result. I think that this is a really nice original idea

Thank you! I too look forward to seeing the final product. It should be interesting, and hopefully free of any of the issues it has now. I just need to gather some help/ideas from the community to make it even better. As previously stated, I already fixed the issue in the video to where it was not looped properly, so it is making progress.

Posting this from Multimedia class in school >_>

Updated video. As mentioned, I fixed the loop. Still need a fix for gearshifts on the firetruck's vehicles.ide or handling.ide. If you know a solution, please PM me!

Like sergiyj said, it sounds like a crying toddler, if you watch the video Chris_Warley linked, that is a real Fed Q siren. You definitely have some way to go and I hope this turns out good.

It's much harder to make an engine sound that is 100% accurate to the right siren than making an actual siren that is 100% accurate. Basically the entire sound is one straight long wave pitch/tone. What the game does, according to your throttle, is raise or lower the pitch of the continuous tone. This is really as accurate as the sound can get to the real thing, and my main goal was to make a wind-up siren, which has been done. Granted, it does still have a few kinks, the actual sound is basically the final product at the time.

If you only want 1 forward going gear you'll have to write "1" into the number of gears parameter in the handling line. You'll also need to play with the velocity parameter which controls the gear ratios, in this case even the top speed in this gear. You'll get pretty much the same top speed as you write in this case. So if you write 150 the car will have an approximately 150 Km/h top speed. Also by changing to 1 forward gear the car will slow down considerably, so you'll need to play with the acceleration parameter as well.

I do like your idea so far, however the sound itself is kind of bad as of this moment. That's pretty much because gta iv vehicle sound modding is really far from perfect. Actually you always get a different sound then what you used.

So with this, garbage trucks will be driving around with a Q siren?

I like the idea, it's definitely unique and very interesting, but not something I'll be using. I'll still keep up with your progress to see how it turns out.

I liked the concept that you were shooting for here. I wish that there was a better way to institute older, mechanical sirens into GTA IV.  Being able to wind them up and down would be great, especially when paired with vintage vehicles. Perhaps one day someone will find a way to make them work; I'd love a Federal 660 "Pulsator" then! :D
