Possibility to have separate sirens for separate vehicles?

Featured Replies

I was sitting here and just thinking about changing sirens in my game for use of the fire dept but, the fact that the police would have the same siren aggravates me. So i was just thinking to myself if there was a way to have separate sirens for the vehicles. I'm not completely sure on how GTA IV works with the sirens being attached to a certain vehicle but from my limited amount of scripting and modding experience, shouldn't there be a file somewhere or a few that attaches that sound clip from the HORNS database to the the vehicle? If so, you could add other sounds to the database and attach those to say, the police vehicles or the model name, so that that vehicle would use that siren instead of the one my fire dept would use. I know the games that I've messed with usually work somewhat in that way. I know you would probably have to add more than just one scripting line to a few files and like i said, I'm not sure if it is possible or if someone has already tried it but, i feel like it might be able to be done. If not, we've all lived with it for years haha.

Are you sure? Because the ambulance utilizes a phaser separate from all the other emergency vehicles. I feel like that's a hint that maybe there is a way.

Yes, and that is in the vanilla game, not modded. R* had the correct tools and such, modders do not have the proper tools to modify the game in such a way to make it behave the way the OP would want. So yes, I am pretty sure.

Even if it could be done, I'm sure it will be very buggy and unfix-able.

However with ELSv7, you can chose to have what #1-4 siren sounds you want in each vehicle slot. For example you can have only wail or yelp or only both.

Couldn't you just make four HORNS.ivaud files in the resident.rpf archive (HORNS1, HORNS2, etc.), then have a script that calls on the HORNS file you want for the siren you want?

My System:

Intel i7-2600k | ASUS P67 Sabertooth | NVIDIA GTX 560ti | Corsair 750W PSU | Corsair Vengeance 8GB | Lamptron Fan-Atic

The game doesn't necessarily *have* to be able to read a sound file for it to play. .NET Scripts have full access to all .NET features; this includes reading and playing external media like any other .NET program would. There are limitations to this (for example, this seems to be how LCPDFR dispatch sounds work, and also why they aren't affected by the ingame volume control; also, I don't see a way to get proper 3D sound effects with this, so sound would play the same way background music does).

I would eventually like to be able to have different sirens for different vehicles (police, EMS, and fire trucks) as well, but if it were to create more issues with scripting in addition with more game instability then it would be unfeasible.

Cheers.

But, well, um, don't firetrucks have separate siren already? I mean, it's different from ambo and police, there's no that third siren mode

The fire truck does have a separate air horn which is different to the police and ambo air horn.

Cheers.

Even though it is the vanilla game, there should be something somewhere that tells the game what siren goes to what vehicle, considering some vehicles ave different horns and the firetruck yes has a different siren horn as well that is separate. I think it may be possible it would just take some time digging through files and figuring out how each wav file is attached to each vehicle through the HORNS.ivaud file. Seeing that i don't see how there would be a different way to do it except for there being a script to play those files for each vehicle.

Yes, of course there is and R* made that for the vanilla game and then locked it down so it'll be extremely hard to do such a thing. And even if you could, it wouldn't be as good as you think.
