Suspect Biting an Officer and Resisting Arrest

Recommended Posts

Yeah that's a fairly infamous COPS episode. To give you all some background on this segment:

The guy being chased was a child molester that attempted to lure a kid into a closet with a $100 bill. He was stripped down to his underwear, and after arrest, he had to be hosed down by a fire truck because he had urinated and defecated himself. As the 2nd officer approached him to try and grab him, he took a swing and connected, hitting the officer right in the nose, but luckily the officer was able to get him into a headlock and keep him on the ground. Unfortunately, the suspect was able to bite the officer, and you see later in the segment that he did indeed penetrate the skin, so the officer needed to get tested for any diseases which is not something you see, obviously. During the struggle, more and more police officers show up. The shorter Asian one that shows up repeatedly punches the suspect in the kidney area, yelling at him to let go. Eventually enough people arrive that the officer who got punched is able to get up and walk away. He walks over to a nearby Taco Bell restaurant where the employees give him a cup of ice for his nose. The first police officer (the fat one who got tired of chasing the suspect) said that he actually had the guy in the back of his car, but he was able to kick out the window and run away, and that's how the chase started. The segment ends after a brief summary of what happened.

If you ask me, they weren't rough enough with him. The fat cop didn't do very much to help if you ask me, but it could have been because they were on camera. The Asian cop who kept punching him was the only one actively trying to cause the suspect enough physical pain so he'd let go. Bravo to the cop who got punched for taking the guy down and keeping him there. He's tough.

COPS has had a few of those calls over the years, there's another episode from Atlanta (I think) way back in the nineties where the officer dislocated his knee in a takedown. There's also a newer episode form Vegas where paramedics and the camera crew has to step in.

Clips like that goes to show why cops do use force and why people shouldn't jump to conclusions about cops, especially when we only get to see a short segment taken out of context.

Yeah, I often get frustrated when people jump to conclusions regarding excessive use of force, or police "Brutality". It can be a very dangerous job, Officers don't know if the person has a weapon, or what this person is physically capable of. Hell, just searching/patting someone down can be extremely dangerous. Get poked by a druggies needle and you're fucked.

I think todays police deserve a lot more respect than this generation gives. I'm sick and tired of seeing people say "fuck the police" . maybe if these kids stop breaking laws and doing stupid shit police wouldn't have to deal with them.

That's just my 2 cents.

Veni vidi vici

Goes to show how dangerous it is, teetering on the thin blue line between life and death. Of course, most of the time these kind of incidents aren't daily occurrences for officers.

I wish they had filmed more episodes with the Riverside County Sheriff. It's a great brotherhood to be apart of.

Very true.

Makes me immediately pissed the second I see people just jump to conclusions about cops being "shit".

People can be real stupid & ignorant :/

The second video down, is this the one you were referring to about the Vegas PD?

Back on topic, people need to realize that, yes there are some cops who take it way to far, but a police officer only uses excessive force when he feels that his life, his fellow officers lives, and the general publics' lives are at risk.  It seems to me that people don't think about this. When you hear about a shooting on the news that involved a cop, 99.99999% of the time, they only shot because that was all they could do, not because they wanted to. They shot because the suspect did something that warranted the officer to discharge his weapon. But I think they, in the video, used a good amount of force in order to subdue the suspect.

Well spoken!  Don't forget VERY FEW cops ever shot their gun at someone.....and if they do, it usually is very traumatic for the officer's and the victim's families......I think too many people jump to conclusions and they always think that the cops are all out to "shoot someone for fun". Law Enforcement officers are out there to protect US! And if that means they must shoot someone to protect themselves or others, I have no problem with that.

Well thank you!

My grandfather was a police officer for I don't know how many years, and never once did he shoot someone. He has been retired now for 17 years I think. Yes, I'm 17 and he retired when I was born. He said that he has been shot at and that he has shot back, but he never killed someone. At least as a police officer, he was a medic in Vietnam, but I won't ask him much about that mainly because I don't know how he feels about it.

Your welcome!

People these days can be just plain dumb and not think about reality. Just like this person

(you should read the comments in the video)She complains way too much and say a bunch of crap like the police are all out to get money from tickets and that cops can do "illegal" things because they have a badge.....but in reality cops are out there to SERVE & PROTECT....not out to do "bad" things.

This kind of stuff [people complaing about cops for nothing] makes me mad!
