Well technically it's not a gun free zone, considering it's a Military Base.

Do you realize the rules for carrying on a military base? Besides MP's (Military Police Officers), all weapons are supposed to be secured in an armory unless the soldier carrying it is training or going to train on that weapon (a unit exercise or at a firing range).

Even in Iraq, troops who were not on security duty weren't allowed to have magazines in their weapons, and they had to keep the ammo in an armory.

Sticks and stones may break bones, but 5.56 fragments on impact.

I didn't realize that. I'm more LE than Military, but it could have been MP, we'll have to wait and see what happens next.

I can confirm military installations are "gun free zones".  The only people with loaded firearms are the MP's (or in some cases DOD police helping augment the installation security force) and soldiers conducting live fire training.  Some bases allow firearms in base housing (after registration but its all dependent on the guidelines set by the Installation Commander).  I can remember taking weapons from a reservist who was a federal agent (he wasn't exactly happy about it, but rules are rules).  Ft. Hood is a ginormous military installation and handles a lot of soldiers, therefore it makes a very big target for radical Islamic US Army soldiers (my thoughts).

Aren't federal agents allowed to carry on federal property? Or was the issue here his military status (i.e. it doesn't matter what he is as a civilian, because he's in the Army so has to play by Army rules)?

Yet another individual in denial that guns aren't a problem.. not mentioning any names...

So if I put a loaded handgun on the table it will go on a shooting spree? Guns aren't the problem its the people. If he didn't have a gun would of found another way to kill people. China had a knife attack that left 15 people killed. Should be ban knifes too?

You can't compare a gun to a knife.. 2 completely different things.. might as well throw car accidents in there too, makes me curious though, why defend gun use age if there are more & more shootings with these yet legal firearms & compare that to A knife incident? & FYI there ARE certain knives that are illegal.. Guns give people an unnecessary "temptation" to do something very stupid just because an individual(s) looked at you funny or just did something you didn't like.
