  • Another quick update, the only remaining thing to fix are these odd normals, something I have done to the model has greatly exacerbated it as it is present on the base Charger model.

  • Thanks, another project:         I might revive these two skins once the two Chargers are released:

Quick Charger model update:

I noticed that the base model is scattered in missing polygons, flipped polygons and incorrect normals. I'm primarily working on the doors for now.

I tried several approaches to the problem, however the best solution is to assign all polygons with the default material, then check polygons around the trim and edges of the door, then reassigning materials once that's done.

It's a painstaking process, however it's looking very promising so far, I'm using this opportunity to remap the doors and panel gaps so they blend in with the natural colour of the car.

The second problem concerns the mesh, or lack thereof, specifically regarding door seams:

I haven't modified the mesh yet so that's what it looks like right now.

It's not pretty, the first image shows what the top of the door looks like, even inexperienced modding eyes can see that there's something wrong. In short, the two sides should be connected, in plain English:  the door seams are transparent in-game.

And it's not only present on the rear passenger doors, it's the same with the front doors and even on some parts of the interior.

There's only one way to remedy this, I have to manually connect the two by extruding one side and weld the vertexes together.

I have decided to go over the model from back to front and check everything. So far I'm planning on changing the rear lights, particularly regarding the glass housing, the 3d model's glass is transparent whereas the real world Charger has red glass:

I'm also going to remap several parts which will hopefully remove two to five textures from the texture archive. it's not a necessity, however it will lessen the performance impact the model will result in.

Polygon count:

Everything I have mentioned should also be applicable on other models that are based on Dhruv's unlocked Charger HEMI, I'll advise anyone who is using that model or any deriatives of it to check their model for these errors.

Another little fun project that might turn out good:

The rear Vertexes are set up in a way that will provide more visibility when parked at a scene, the "eyebrows" will outline the rear shape of the vehicle in addition to the flashing tail-lights and the Liberty.

At the front, there's four ION's in the grille, the top row is set as primary lights and the bottom row is set as secondary lights which looks nice in-game. There's also two Vertexes mounted beneath the headlights on either side of the car to increase visibility at off-angles, particularly when clearing intersections.

It is beautiful I love.

About the CVPI: Personally, I'd leave away the little lights on the rear bumper. They look kinda wrong. Or maybe just reduce them to one on each rear side. Just a suggestion. It's up to you.

NB, could you maybe add some skins in the style of previously released packs in the download too or would it be too much work? That way It'll be easier to put different vehicles together without them having totally different skins.

(IE. the Tahoe from your Chevy pack and the Chargers you're currently working on don't really fit together skinwise)

Update on the (Franken)Charger:

dat ass!:

The rear lights has changed, using glass and new reverse lights from the Forza model (existing reverse lights looked awful with the new glass).

Glass on both sides of the boot are now individual misc components with their own collisions (no more phantom shatter, yay!)

Pretty face too:

New headlights curtsy of the Forza 4 model, high-beams are cut directly from the model whereas the normal beam were modelled from the xeneons on the same model. They make a huge difference to the front of the car

Also shown is the new wing mirrors, also curtsy of Forza, the original mirrors weren't usable, the new version has black on the trim that attaches the mirrod to the door, the mirror itself (the outer part that folds in on the real car) will be mapped to template.

The front indicators looks better in-game, I haven't been able to create a decent replacement.

The model has also been rescaled as I accidentally mis-scaled it without noticing. Compare the screenshots with these:

Doors:

3xHVSNb.png

Nothing terribly exciting, both doors were stripped of materials and every polygon checked and corrected, the black window trim is the most obvious change, however the door seams will be immaculate once remapped.

Interior

fOLCcdu.png

Without question my least favourite part of the car, there's no roof pillars on the original model, presumably that part of the car aren't visible in SRW, however it looks atrocious in IV,  the front parts doesn't line up with the window (see right and left sides).

Converting Forza's interior is beyond my abilities so I'll have to find a different solution.

I'm also remapping parts of the interior using textures from Forza, it doesn't make a huge difference, but I'm not leaving something that could be improved unimproved.

There's still some work left, I'm planning on remapping the body to a new template, the current template isn't great so it would be silly to remap major parts of the car to a template that could be improved at the same time.

Here's some more in-game shots, note that it's not as recent as the model shown in zmod, the mirrors and various interior components aren't implemented. It's still a work in progress, not representative of the final product:

Good! And yes, that Charger looks amazing :)

It's been a while so here's another update on the FrankenCharger!

Not much has changed on the outside, however:

1ZLiSBQ.jpg

It is nearing completion, I only have a couple of minor changes left, the exterior bodywork will then be remapped before creating distance models.

Please not that "completion" does not mean perfection, however it is as good as I can make it. It's perfectly fit for its purpose (video game modding), but 3d modelers will probably scuff at the decidedly utilitarian mesh in places.

I have lost track of what models provided parts, it started out as Dhruv's unlocked Charger, it now has parts from Forza's Charger as well as Lt. Caines unlocked '06 Charger with a little home-made customisations on top.

The same applies for textures, they're part Dhruv Charger, part Forza Charger and part What-I-Could-Find-On-Google-Image-Search Charger.

Yes sir NicolaiB is a great job congrats (i like charger black with blue ligths and rear too) very nice and great job with that 5/5
