"Detain on Foot" does absolutely nothing

Featured Replies

LCPDFR 1.0:

Whenever I would like to detain someone on foot, WITHOUT placing them into my vehicle, I press the "Detain on Foot" option. When I press this option, absolutely nothing happens.

Now, I thought maybe the developers did this on purpose to make the player inevitably press E to arrest them. To the general user, this makes sense.. but to someone like me that enjoys the full law simulation experience, I would like to be able to detain someone on foot rather than arresting them.

Is this the case with everyone else?

Do you mean putting handcuffs on them but not arresting them?

I'm a little annoyed over that too.

If you apply handcuffs you're taking away a basic liberty which is their freedom of movement. This, by definition is therefore arresting them.

Detaining someone is to prevent them from proceeding with movement temporarily for the purpose of investigation.

Just thought you would like to know that :)

As for the OP, I have never detained someone on foot so can't really speculate, I only really detain people in my vehicle for roleplaying "further questioning" or for the purpose of searching their car.

Will have to try it out, although I'm pretty certain like ineseri said, they just remain stationary.

EDIT: Just checked, detaining a pedestrian on foot makes them stand idle ready for you to return to later.

EDIT 2: Double checked, detained a second pedestrian, walked down the street, both of them remained perfectly still. Went back to he 2nd pedestrian and aimed at him, message pop up saying "hold E for further actions."

Detaining on foot works :)

This is one thing that i do. i place the person under arrest and place them in my vehicle. I then proceed to search the person's vehicle or run a check, and if everything's good then i take them out of the patrol car and release them. That's something you could do.

My whole thorough reply was trashed after I pushed the "post" button, and the webpage crashed, sooo I don't feel like writing it all again.

Basically; Is there a way I can handcuff them temporarily without placing them under LCPDFR "arrest"?

Thx for all the replies.

Yes, arrest them like you normally would and don't call for a prisoner transport - say you will transport the person yourself. You can then do whatever it is you want to do. When you're done, you can aim at the person and press E (or hold E, not sure which, a message will pop up though) to release them. If you want to interact with the person you cuffed again, you will first have to release him/her.

That's the part that kills me. Of course you can't frisk them or check their ID while they are cuffed, because that defies logic.. lol

Don't get me wrong though, big thanks to the dev team. This mod takes up a good portion of my free time ATM. Thanks, seriously. There's just a few minor things I would like to see fixed in order to accurately reflect the way RW law enforcement works.

Thanks again for the help guys.

Handcuffs may be used for officer safety during an investigative detention on any person as long as they have reasonable articulable suspicion that you have committed a crime.

So, basically the police don't need to arrest you to place you in handcuffs; they can just detain you. However, they need reasonable suspicion to detain you for anything, even without handcuffs.

^This, exactly.

In my reply that disappeared, I explained this in depth. There is a difference between detention and arrest. I really don't need to explain it any further than you said it, but I just wanted to get this out there.

Thanks Jay for moving it to suggestions - I would like to see this feature implemented in future versions of this modification, and I'm sure others would like to as well.

I know nothing about GTA IV mod coding, but I don't see it being that hard to have the officer frisk animation happen while the ped is still stationary in cuffs - They are independent people doing different things, and there is no ped-ped interaction required.. no?

Thanks again, this forum is great.
