This is hilarious. There are plenty of games where the United States is at war with Russia. Last I checked, Russia isn't banning games left and right. lmao

Russia also isn't a Communist state anymore. And if it is, it is a pretty loose one at that.

Uhm. China don't allow console game sales anyway. The game didn't even have a targeted China release...

That ban actually got lifted last year.

Reading some comments from folks who lived there OTOH, it seemed that ban wasn't very well enforced anyways, and that many electronics malls carried them for a while.

Yeah, but they do bitch about being antagonized frequently, just look at that Indiana Jones fan fiction released as a movie a couple years back. I recall they were not pleased with how Russians were depicted as worshipers of Stalin. Of course, it was a known fact that many things the officials banned, even then made their way over there anyways, one way or another, and again, things most of the time, these bans were lightly, if ever enforced. Needless to say, bans of popular media, rarely, if ever work.

They did OTOH ban South Park, Family Guy and Simpsons from airing there a couple years back. You know, the usual "For the Children" bull-crap politicians pull when they want to tighten control over what people can and can't do. Not sure how well that ban has actually went through though. I mean, it can't be aired, but I'm sure fans of the show are getting it through some kind of means (Family Guy in particular seemed to have been fairly popular.)

Even so, I still don't think the game was targeted for a Chinese release.

I guess I can understand their point of view, 'I guess' being the key words here. If a game was created where you were playing as the Russians or the Chinese against the Americans who were beginning to invade and conquer the world, would Americans be offended? The Americans also execute civilians, throw grenades into homes, attack civilian strongholds, and torture the oppositions soldiers. I wouldn't be offended, but others would I guess. At the end of the day in my opinion, it's just a game.

What? I don't know what military you're talking about, but the military in which I serve doesn't do that.

Also, as most people mentioned, the Chinese just don't like to appear aggressive at all. It's why their aircraft carrier is for "Scientific Research Purposes", and not for forward deploying a few squadrons of aircraft parked outside their national waters. The whole concept of the PLA is for defense, not offense. It's to make their people believe that they're not aggressive and want to preform alternate methods of acquiring locations. Like shown in Taiwan, they'll utilized diplomacy, economics, and other means of swaying public opinion toward reunification.

I mean, look how powerful a shot of a person protesting in front of a platoon of tanks was. Just imagine if a video game was allowed that showed so much violence and aggression possible in such a confrontation.

I'm not saying our military actually does do that. All of my family members have served in the military, and this actually just proved my point. I'm saying if the Chinese or Russians created a game with content like that, I'm sure lot's of Americans would be offended. There are games out there where the opposition is doing that kind of thing to civilians, and the bottom line is that your job is to stop it.

I thought about that too, actually. And Russia still considers us their #1 military threat. Russian Navy and Army generals will tell you themselves that during drills simulating a war time scenario, the 'OpFor' is almost always us. China has an uptight government, no two ways about it.

Not sure if this is a good thing or not. That Russia see's our military as a potential threat. It makes me comfortable knowing that they know if they do anything to us, I'm sure something will happen to them right back. ten-fold.

Every country knows that. We're the best armed nation from a nuclear weapons standpoint and we have pretty large standing army, navy and air force.
