Leonov got a reaction from Clodydild in Steam Game Ideas/Suggestions?
Yeah, Maszyna can be fairly similar and is my personal favorite of the above. They're always doing updates to it though, and eventually they do updates, like make certain systems behave more realistically, make locomotives behave and sound more realistic, even have things such as coupling done in a more realistic fashion. The graphics don't really kill it too much for me to be honest, and have still come a far way compared with the earliest versions from about 13 years ago. If you have a hard drive that can handle the rather small 1 Gig, and don't have a problem torrenting it (as this is how the current versions are now distributed), it is worth a look, even though there might be a small language barrier as most everything is in Polish. There is a really good site though to reference for meaning of the Signals and signs though.

That and I like how the signals seem to have their behavior realistically modeled. There is also another sim from way back then that is also of Polish origin, called Mechanik. It put you in control of a Class EN57, and was fairly decent considering it's age, but Maszyna far outdoes it now.

Of course, MSTS runs a very close 2nd in my book, especially as it allows me to replicate a good chunk of the Amtrak Floridian (Chicago-Louisville (Monon-2 route), Waycross-St. Pete (Florida (Folkston) Funnel and the SCL A line beta)), and with a way to get appropriate (or near appropriate) equipment to do it.

I thought of another good game one can get off of Steam. IL-2: 1946. It does have a large learning curve, especially if you're going to play online, but it is essentially the Gran Turismo of WWII Aviation (and some mod packs have it go further). Once you find yourself understanding how to actually hit something, the rest comes down to understanding your aircraft and any evasive manouvers (almost impossible in a bomber, but I find flying high and planning around the big combat areas where the fighter jocks are tearing each other apart tend to work best. And even then, there is some issue as some people have found a way to make a cheat radar to find you apparently, as was revieled on the UltraPack mod forum.) Have to say, Steam does have some neat sims, with learning curves ranging from highly watered down (TS2014) to hyper realsitic (DCS sims are a good example here.)

I have been thinking of notable ones I still have a good memory of, there was a recent one last week I was doing. I pulled over a guy for running a red, and asked him for ID, to which he replied that he "Left it at home." Usually, I'll ask them to step out, so then I may Frisk them and then arrest, when a bus pulls up, and runs down my partner, and then stops. I make him step off of his bus, to which he then also replies that he left his ID "at home" (seems to be a common occurance these days.)

As a law enforcement officer, I can tell you with almost 100% certainty that your "friend' is not telling you the truth.  First of all, a UC will NEVER reveal his identity as a UC unless it is absolutely necessary to identify his/herself as an officer.  Nine times out of ten, UC's will let uniformed officers make arrests and civilian contacts.  A UC will never pull out his badge or his weapon and show it to a civilian unless there is one heck of a good reason for that civilian to know that the UC is an officer.  Second, federal law prohibits anyone under the age of 18 from possessing a firearm.  Therefore, if this person is a student and is going around showing people a gun, he is in violation of the law and you have a responsibility to report it.  If he is not an LEO and he is going around flashing a badge, he is also committing the crime of impersonation.  This could create a huge security and liability concern in the event of a true emergency at the school.  I would highly encourage you to report this to your principal or School Resource Officer (if your school has one).  If you ask your principal or School Resource Officer to not mention your name, they have a duty and responsibility to NOT do so.  You can also ask your parents to contact the appropriate people if you feel uncomfortable doing it yourself.  Although I probably don't have jurisdiction where you go to school, I am more than willing to assist you, if you want.  Feel free to PM me if needed.

I'm sort of new here, and to GTA IV and have only been playing this for a few days.
I had to share this (wish I had it on video!)

    STORY:

I started to do a traffic stop on a cab that nearly sideswiped me. Before I could hit my shift button to initiate the traffic stop, I got rear ended by another car. Well for some odd reason (Probably GTA logic?) the driver of the car that rear ended me gets out of his car, walks up to my cruiser, pulls me out and starts punching me. I quickly withdrew my weapon and fired a couple of shots, a few hitting him. He then pulls a gun and starts shooting me. Next thing I know, some random pedestrian starts shooting too. I was outnumbered, and died.

All I could do was laugh. These people have some SERIOUS road rage.

I just had to share this. What's your funny stories?

The hotfix isn't necessarily adding or improving gameplay itself, but more improving the stability of the mod, making it more stable and less prone to sudden crashes. Usually when mods change numbers, for example, 0.91 to 0.95 to 1.0, that is where you tend to see changes in the gameplay itself.

That's when one of the NPC's gets spawned inside the adjacent building accidentally. Happens to me all the time on my 'homeless disturbance' calls. It's very tough to deal with since you either have to somehow manage to get the people unstuck from the walls or restart the mod/game itself in order to keep playing.

So, what you're telling me is that you are saying that people who have known that as their only home should leave because of what happened a very long time ago? Granted, most of us were alive when Apartheid was around, and was on its death bed. But your logic definitely falls apart quickly when you realize that the people who live there, likely didn't come from the UK directly, and were born and raised IN South Africa. To put it in perspective it would be like telling all the direct European descended Jews to leave what is today known as Israel, or the Ethnic Russians in places like Latvia and Ukraine (though they are hot issues now) to do the same, despite most of those people being born and raised in the land there!

I do know about the issues in South Africa. I hear about them on the Radio late at night when the BBC is playing over our NPR affiliate, and read about, and it is worrying that very little is being done to actually address the problem from anywhere. While I on TV and such, they talk about the younger generation being united together, then I read and hear these issues that pop up over what happens there, and it worries me when I hear about these people that are out for massive amounts of Blood, after we see historically what happens when that is, and often the result is overall sadness and a massive overcast of national shame. Apartheid had ended only 20 years ago, I can only hope that 20 years from now, that all South Africans can find themselves truly on more equal footing, regardless of race or ethnicity.

On-topic: The issue with tailoring terrorism based on where has low security is that terrorism is inherently political - what purpose is served by blowing up a Malaysian plane? Is there a group angry at and fighting the Malaysian government?

I don't even think the U.S. is majorly involved in this, which is a first. Let's keep it that way and just stop with these stupid theories. I'd disagree with that statement. It is possible, but VERY difficult to do.

Examples that come to mind are:
This National Flight that ditched in the water, off the coast of Florida. Only fatality I recall was a Flight attendant that drowned after leaving the plane.

These Aeroflot incidents had 100% survival I think:

This JAL DC-8 found itself in the drink as well. It was apparently repaired and returned to service (those Douglas Birds, they just keep on going and going.)

Even though this was still in the Piston era, PAA Flight 6 is a very well known case, and that was in the middle of the pacific:

While a Pitot tube failure, even down to the nature of Birgenair 301's can't be completely written out, I have my doubts still. AF447's problem was that of flying in a situation where ice is likely (a storm), but also the fact that the Pitot Tubes were faulty, and not replaced on this (Airbus at around the same time issued a directive saying that the faulty ones should be replaced for better ones.) Here, the weather conditions showed weather in the area were not too bad from what I understand, and I don't think there is a problem with the 777's Pitot Tube system as the Airbus A330 and A340 had. Of course, it only takes a pattern of bad CRM in the cockpit to only turn it into such (albeit, the manufacture can't fix that part. Good CRM needs to be taught and encouraged by the airlines, and outside the US and most EU states, it has a rather classical approach of kissing up to the Captain, even if that lower ranking pilot knows for certain that they are right.)

It is very interesting to see what comes out of this, stolen identities, mysterious disappearance, not to mention all sorts of stories from all around different sources. Most people had AF447 figured out within a day or two. I remember sitting a computer lab when I first heard of it, and heard of the weather conditions and said to myself "Had to have been a pitot tube failure (rather than the lightning strike theory which was madly popular with the media at the time.)" Here, it's very muggy, many things are still on the table.

You want something to be said about the subject of this topic? Okay.

I think the Illuminatii is bullshit. It's nothing more than an excuse to attack past and present political figures & celebrities. People use the Illuminatii to turn tragedies & political turmoil into propaganda schemes. One instance could be 9/11. People will say that since George Bush is an active member of the Illuminatii, he was told to attack the World Trade Center by his superiors. Countless numbers of humans, notice I'm not specifically saying Americans because that would be completely inaccurate as many different people from other nations, had died because of the events taking place on September 11th, 2001. Conspiracy theorists will take that genocide of human life and turn it around saying, "The Illuminatii wants to start a new world order, so they needed to end all those lives". They would be taking the significance of all that unnecessary human life lost, and completely tarnish it with some baseless theories on why it meant to be.

That's my opinion. Disagree with it or not, I don't care.

Do you know why I said what I had said cp702? Because it hurts me to see this website's forum go down hill when a bunch of immature 12 year olds discuss why the Illuminatii is controlling the world. I felt the need to say what I said because I knew nobody else had the balls to do it. And you just hid it like it was nothing.

On top of that, there's going to be constant junk-posting in this thread, and you and the majority of other staff will not do a single thing about it until it's too late.

Go ahead, just watch as this thread takes a turn for the worse and is constantly bombarded with fragmented sentences that have the grammatical significance of that of a child's writing. I doubt this thread discussing "politics, current events, and society" will get anywhere more significant.

    More callouts for LCPDFR
    Introduction
Since the release of LCPDFR v1.0 I have been experimenting with the new API. Since I am one of the (probably) many people who think LCPDFR would benefit from more callouts, I think the addition of the API is a major step and I believe we will see a lot more mods (I should say plugins) with additional callouts, greatly increasing the variety of callouts in LCPDFR.

I should mention that this is a WorkInProgress, and I think it will stay that way. There will always be new callouts to add and different scenarios or locations to be added.
Of course, suggestions for improvements or new callout ideas are more than welcome.

The callouts that can be found in the current release:
Automatic Burglar Alarm Assistance to LTA (Liberty Transport Authority) Fuel theft Traffic collision involving pedestrian Suspicious parked vehicle Robbery in progress Indecent exposure Securicar robbery Civilian attacked in building Suicide attempt Cardiac arrest I am working on a few other callouts, but I am not yet confident about their stability and/or gameplay, so they might be in a later release or I might not release them at all:
People protesting Murder Other than these callouts, I also plan to make lots of other callouts. I will not list them all, but a few I think should not be skipped are:
Hit and run Bar fight etc... Some artwork-like images

I'm not sure how it works in the UK, but churches are not legally bound, not even in California, where Homosexual unions are recognized. Usually when a same sex couples, or couples who do not believe in a religion, or do not wish to have the ceremony in a religious setting marry, they typically will do the ceremony at the in their  city's courthouse. Of course, some churches will do the ceremony, even with their minister/priest/preacher, but it only comes down to if the religious official marrying the couple feels right with it.

Not always. Here's the thing: If you say something about state law or government that is *not* required by federal law, and you say it applies to all states, you're wrong. Some states (from quick reading, Ohio is among them) give highway patrol extremely limited power off state property - the OSHP seems to be unable to arrest on private property except during hot pursuit and riots. OTOH, in California, any peace officer has statewide jurisdiction - a cop from a small town in the middle of nowhere can technically go to downtown Los Angeles and have just as much authority as in his hometown.

Railroad police are in fact their own category; they generally have authority on railroad property in every state the railroad operates. Sometimes, this is government-run (Amtrak Police, commuter rail police forces), sometimes private (Union Pacific police, who were actually a model used when the FBI was set up). Especially if government-run, they might get full law-enforcement authority in the jurisdictions the railroad operates in, instead of just on the property (the DC Metro Transit Police have authority in parts of *3* states-or-state-like-entities-because-DC-isn't-actually-a-state-but-close-enough).

Also, any notion that one kind of cop is "the best" implies a hierarchy that *does not exist* - the highway patrol/state police aren't necessary the "elite" that every cop aspires to, just as SWAT teams aren't. It's a separate agency; it may have a better reputation than a local agency, but that depends on the agencies, and isn't inherent in state/local distinction. State agencies tend to have a much greater focus on doing traffic, because interstates are almost always under their primary jurisdiction - a cop who wants to keep their city safe would be advised not to join the state police, because that's generally not what they do.

I'm all for the decentralization of marriage (no state recognized marriage, period.)

That way, those who choose when to be religious get to keep their precious "marriage", and those who want to live outside the means of what some book with far too many translations and interpretations can say they're married too!

I love reading these slippery slopes.

It will be hard to get the court to understand how the goat consents though. We also have the involving of age of consent. Forced marriages like that are sorta frowned upon in countries like the United States, and a sheer majority of  EU states. So don't worry, if same-sex marriage is state-recognized, I can say with a probability of 1 that we will not see goats and infants being married to a lunatic, just simply due to what consent is defined.

Marriage itself is for the church to decide, a priest should not be forced to wed anyone he or she does not want to wed for whatever reason, that goes for heterosexual couples as well. A priest should not be forced to wed a racist couple or a black/middle eastern/Asian couple if he or she does not want to either.

Personally, I couldn't give a crap about it, your sexuality does not define who you are as a person, I don't care who your partner is as long as you treat that person with respect and love.

Speaking from experience, Denmark allowed same-sex "registered partnerships" in 1989. It doesn't really affect anything, non-gays aren't banned from getting married or otherwise discriminated or disadvantaged so it's a bit of a non-issue really, my only concern is that the different religious institutions are allowed to make the decision themselves. I also belive that the government should provide a non-religious alternative that will give any couple the same legal rights and official acknowledgements as a church officiated ceremony, the church can do as it pleases really.
