GTA V police A.I.

Featured Replies

This is a simple question, what is the differences between the police A.I. in GTA IV to GTA V? And is there an A.I. difference between the police and the sheriff?

Between GTA IV and V there's quite a bit of changes. The AI is improved, both on foot and on the road. The police will search more aggressively and efficient while on foot, utilizing cover in a realistic way. I don't think there's any difference between the "city cops" and "country cops", only aesthetic differences.

Invenio, Investigatio, Imperium

That's to be expected; GTA, from what I've read, was literally created because of a bug in a racing game where cops were crazy overaggressive in ramming you, and the development team thought it was HILARIOUS.

This is true^. It was (if I remember it correctly) named Race and Chase. It was a racing game where cops were involved. One of the playtesters managed to escape from the boundaries of the racing track, but the police still managed to follow except now it was in "free-roam" and along the lines of that, GTA was born.

It's hard to pin point what the differences are between the police in GTA4 and GTA5 without explaining everything, but I'll try and I know I'll miss some shit.

1.

The police in GTA5 has better accuracy with weapons, making rampages against the police close to impossible.  The police in GTA4 has horrible accuracy, no idea why either.  Maybe Rockstar assumed the game was too hard and nerf up the police or it was some bug where they were stuck on the worst possible accuracy.

2.

The police in GTA5 are way more aggresive when in vehicle pursuits, I blame the arcadic vehicle handling for this.  The police have the magical ability to speed boost up to you and ram the crap out of you.  In GTA4, the police never did this.  Due to the more realistic handling (compared to GTA5), the police didn't use speed boost to attempt to catch up to you.  In fact, they are actually restricted to how fast they are allowed to go when chasing after you.  That's why when driving fast, you have a high chance to lose the police.

3.

The police in GTA5 hate the player.  Most cases when ever I've stood around the police, they don't like me and start to yell at me and then go to arresting me or killing me.  In GTA4, the police didn't care if you stood near them.  You can stand near them and all they did was intimidate you.

4.

The police in GTA5 do not patrol.  I don't know if this is a bug or what, but the police are not seen driving around or walking around at all.  I know if you drive through the Mission Row district, the game will sometimes spawn cops driving around and walking around (no, I don't count the police chasing someone or sitting at the side of the road as driving around).  In GTA4, the police drove all over the city.  Along with foot patrols.

There are some others I think, but I can't think of anymore at the moment, those are ones that I know for sure though.

And no, there are no differences in police AI between the LSPD and the Sheriffs Office.

Police, however, do set up more roadblocks/stationary vehicles. GTA IV set up road blocks that block the entire road only on major highways, whereas GTA V roadblocks are set up on almost any street and usually block the direction of travel. Not sure which is the more realistic.

My System:

Intel i7-2600k | ASUS P67 Sabertooth | NVIDIA GTX 560ti | Corsair 750W PSU | Corsair Vengeance 8GB | Lamptron Fan-Atic

They only setup roadblocks on the bridges and the booth tunnel to keep the player with in that island, they don't do major highways.

I was checking out the police station one night in gta 5 and a cop chase flew by and one of the cops stole my Bugatti

The cops will do that in GTA IV too. They'll commandeer any empty vehicle to chase you down (They might force people out of their cars too, but I've never seen it).

The police will normally aim for empty vehicles rather than occupied vehicles when commandeering a vehicle.  I have seen them ripping people out of their cars and using it in a chase.

Interesting. I guess I will have to get in more chases i guess! :P

"Sorry I need this, cop stuff." *Takes scooter/SUV/car/bike/whatever.*

I've seen that a lot. Thing is they still magically have the ability to use a P.A. system (that doesn't exist) in civilian cars to shout at you like the others do in their cruisers.

Apparently they need social lives , I hear they're fun to have.

What? Where do you get from that to "need social lives"? And why the hell do you feel the need to comment with that? Really? Claiming that other people have no life is a) a pretty stupid thing to say, b) one of the most overused claims on the Internet, and c) generally, the people who say it are EXACTLY the sorts of people who could do with spending a little more time off their computers (yes, I know that by my logic, I should thus spend more time off my computer. This is true, but the difference is that I actually admit it.)

I've found that the county cops are less likely (the CV look alike) to follow me off road then the the city cops, That and the SUV drive better in the county then in the city
