They are mean looking. But in reality, a unibody would be dead in an accident. A body-on-frame vehicle could get straightened, and be put back into service.   I do like the style, but not what's und

  • They are going to be just like the crown vic.. nothing is going to change on them for 10-12 years except possible improvements under the hood.

Why did Ford discontinue the venerable Crown Victoria Police Interceptor?

Cheers.

I read something somewhere stating it had to do with the full sized frame, apparently they wanted also wanted better fuel economy with the Ford Taurus, the tank is pretty much the same size as the Crown Vic, they shot themselves in the foot on that one AND it's All Wheel Drive.

I've always wondered, why do they name cars 2014 Police Interceptors if it's still 2013?

Engines or car parts from 2014 hasn't been built yet since obviously it's still 2013.

They probably have a time machine stuffed away somewhere...

Joking aside, they can sell the same car longer, so they can say first year sales are higher and they can sneak in an extra year before refreshes. That's my thought.

They have the layouts of cars 4 years before they're actual time to be made, they probably are 2014 FPI's.

Yea with regards to the naming of vehicles, I picked up my 2012 Ford Explorer in late 2011.

I believe most, if not all, car models get released with a year ahead in the make year.

go to Maryland and see what happens if you any kind of lights that blink red -blue -and clear lites that have pulsating headlites . you get big ticket and your car gets towed

They CAN legally sell you red/blue lights, but it ENTIRELY on you if you get caught with them, they could even sell you a red/blue lightbar if you wanted one, you'd just have to drive white the "out of service" cap that comes with it whilst driving.

Must be different here, I have an 03 Crown Vic ex cop car, 2 tail light strobes and 2 white headlight strobes, a guy was broke down on a busy street during morning rush hour and people wouldn't stop honking, so I zipped in behind him and flipped my strobes on and everyone shut up, anywho, next thing I know I see red/blue lights, the Officer gets out of his cruiser, looks at all my lights and asks me" buddy of yours?" I said no he just broke down, and he let me go, my point is, there shouldn't be any reason why you can't have them if you're just showing them off, or someone needs help (broke down) as long as you don't abuse it, which that was the second time I used them in public, if i'm changing a ladies tire on the side of the road at 10PM when i'm just driving by, I want people to be able to see me so both me and her get to go home, you never know what a driver is doing in their car.

How are your taillight strobes set up? Just alternating your brake lights or is your reverse lights set up too? Video maybe?

I don't honestly like it, the performance isn't great, it doesn't look as sleek as the CVPI. Ford should have just kept updating the CrownVic.

HAVE A QUESTION OR A REQUEST? MESSAGE ME I'M HAPPY TO HELP

I love australian police cars.

At first I disliked them, but as I have grown a love for muscle cars and general sports cars I have loved the aussie patrl vehicles.

however, still YUCK towards british cop cars(except a few)

I like the taurus, I think they're much slicker than the vic. But I till love the vic. I think we will still see the vic for another 8ish or so years.

My local sheriff's office still uses 2003 vics.

Looks the same as the past 2 years, the only thing different is maybe some performance..

Safety and performance issues...

In a Crown vic if you got into a 50+MPH crash you were pretty much dead, or really badly hurt to the point were you will never be the same. Also they couldn't have a lot of features on them, and this new car was design by veteran police officers...

This is actually the first car design for police officers, from performance to comfort. The crown vic was really just a base model with some lights and sirens added to it and that made it the police car.

With this car it has a lot of these features built in...

Also the CV didn't come in AWD which was a really big issue for police departments in area that gets a lot of snow, because rear wheel drive and snow does not mix well plus being so light in the back those things just fish tailed all day long...

I have been on a ride a long were it was snowing and we couldn't go chasing after people for speeding because if we tried to take a turn or anything going faster then 30MPH we would lose control giving it was fun, it was really dangerous. I remember once we had a 911 call for someone with breathing issues, normally it would of taken 5 minutes for us to get there, it took us 15 because of the snow and if trying to turn going faster then 30MPH would cause you to lose control and go into a ditch...

Fair enough.

Do you think Ford could have re-engineered the CVPI (and retain a similar body shape) using AWD and the related performance upgrades and the latest in crumple zone technology?

Cheers.

I am almost 100% certain that Ford will bring back the CVPI but entirely different looking and modern. Probably around 2018-2020 or so.

One can always hope...

How are your taillight strobes set up? Just alternating your brake lights or is your reverse lights set up too? Video maybe?

It can be pretty costly if you want a couple strobes, I have 1 power supply under the hood that runs 2 toggle switches into interior of the car, 1 to turn them on and the other to change the patterns, it comes with 10 different flash patterns, but if you don't want a pattern selector inside, there is a white wire that just hangs loose that changes the patterns on the positive ground under the hood, but that's a pain, so I had 2 switches mounted beside my steering wheel, the power switch works for both headlight strobes as well as the tail light strobes, that requires another power supply, which I have mounted in the trunk, I have a bunch of strobes and 1 power supply left I want to put in my reverse lights.

I will be honest, it is VERY expensive if you don't know anyone who can sell these to you and install them.

I was first quoted $800.00, because they have to take some of the interior out, run the wires etc..

1 brand new strobe bulb is about $90.00 brand new and a brand new power supply is about $100.00..

I paid $5.00 a strobes and I got 7 and 3 power supplies at $50.00 each (used) I paid $250.00 for my buddy to install them, but if you want them bad enough they are WELL worth the money spent, I do NOT recommend going for anything less than the name brand strobes, I had Wal-Mart cheapies and my god they sucked and looked horrible.

Here is the video of my setup from the outside:
