  • Here we go again, they're gonna blame the video games.. why was he even playing GTAIV at 8 anyway?

  • If you're being run over by ambulances, its probably time to move to a different town.   In a more serious tone however, its completely the parents fault here. The game is rated M (18) for a reason

  • Blame the parents. This is their fault.    1, A fucking fire arm shouldn't be accessible to a 8 year old. 2, The game is rated M for mature, why is your child playing one of the most violent games

lol I like how they found the most violent pictures of the game possible.. good ole' Media trying to sensitize everyone. and also If they want to blame video games.. there's a reason why its rated M for MATURE. its not just there on the cover of the game to look pretty i'd be looking at the adults in this situation.. as ory said why the fuck is a 8 Year old playing Grand theft auto that's a little young isn't it? and lastly.. if a 8 year old was able to find a gun I doubt the hiding spot wasn't all that great.. so in NO way is this the video game's fault that's a silly yet popular presumption

This is why I don't approve of parents buying their children M rated games.

It kind of feels like the world is full of morons sometimes.

Veni vidi vici

More to the point, why was a gun left in a place he could reach it? Guns seem pretty high on the "keep out of reach of children" list. 8-year-olds should definitely not be handling them without adult supervision (if they handle them at all).

I agree completely, the first game I ever played was GTA:VC, and that was when I was 7, I do not feel like killing anyone, so blaming it on games is bullshit.

I heard that violent games have helped decrease violent crimes because you can do that in the video game.

In video games I can get so angry at the ambulance drivers for running me over that I can blow them up.

But I wouldn't do that in real life cause I can do it in video games where it looks awesomer.

Yeah I said awesomer.

Obviously everyone in this topic didn't see the part where the video game made the gun appear within reach of the child and the video game made the parents allow the kid to play it in the first place. Obviously the game's fault.

and this is way game console have the parent lock for a reason, ITS TO STOP CHILDREN FROM PLAYING 15+ RATTED GAMES, on a side not the law is right, if your under 10 you can be held for what you do, ie you can be charged (least that what the do in Aus) But still how did he even know who to fire it, I blame the pernets and the child should be taken away from them (sorry if this sounds rude but I think its the best bet)

EDIT: oh and another this, you can blame video game for every thing, where were they 50 years when we had WW1 and WW2?

The law states: 'Those who have not reached the age of 10 years are exempt from criminal responsibility. However, nothing in this article shall affect the jurisdiction of juvenile courts as established by the constitution and statutes of this state.'

In a more serious tone however, its completely the parents fault here. The game is rated M (18) for a reason which means it should only be played by people who meet that age criteria, a 7 year old doesn't posses the mental capabilities to make moral decisions, they WILL copy what they see as the term goes; "Monkey See, Monkey Do"

Retailers cannot sell these games to people under the age unless there is a consenting adult present, i.e: a parent. It honestly pisses me off when people outright ignore the ratings the BBFC (or more recently, PEGI) give games and then state that "Videogames are the reason our children are mindless, violent thugs!" when in reality, its the parents themselves for not deciding what should be best for their child. Granted, I played the first GTA and all other following games in the series from a pretty young age, but only because I knew that they were just videogames and that I shouldn't copy anything I see or do in them in the real world.

I knew I'd see this. If I could play devils advocate for a moment. the self-admitted 11 year olds on this forum who play GTA IV aren't any better of an age for this game, and I don't see people crying about their parents being irresponsible. It's only when someone gets killed. That being said, I don't like any parents that let their kids play this game at young ages and think they're all irresponsible. I just find that particular argument a little hypocritical coming from some of the people here.

If i'm gonna blame anyone, or anything, i'm gonna blame the movies, some of the crap they come up with..

Again, if you're looking for something to blame, why not wonder why the fuck you would ever put a loaded gun where an 8-year-old can reach it? Does anyone else here not see an issue with that?

Lol I hate when people try to blame the video games for these types of incidents. Before you blame the games, think about who let them play the game (*cough* their guardians *cough*)!
