Now I do like that idea a lot.

The problem iwth IV/LCPDFR is that outside of cop work, there isn't a whole lot to do interactivity wise so....sort that and keep it interesting!

This game looks very promising!

I really write down all ideas you guys say here (trully) and many of them, believe me, is already planned to the game.

Anybody took a look into our Game Briefing in our dev blog? If not, just go here:

You will see that many things are already planed (since day one on spreading this). I will try to make short on those:

 

- For now it will have only one city, small, because time is short and time is money, lol. Players are able to choose maps when starting careers, we are thinking to add rural areas, but lets keep it off for now.

- When I mean a police officer sim, I mean it. Players will have days on duty and days off, but you cannot just choose what day to work, lol. Can you do it in realy life? I envy you :P

- There will be places to eat when on and off duty;

- You can meet NPCs and make friends in-game, you will even suffer if a friend of you dies (low attributes for a short period);

- Random events are many different cop calls. Missions are real-life based. Special events means: music show in city, city birsthday, etc;

- You can buy your own car. You can buy things for your house (I dont know the level of this customization yet, could be simple...);

 

We are still preparing all the informations to a new website. Since we are not spreading this that much, I am focusing in the development of the game itself. So, more info in our new website, but keep tuned in my dev blog, in there I always post thew latest news first.

I just hope it plays as good as the hype though. I can live with okay graphics if the game is great (see Civ 3/4)

They could call it a police intercpter or something like that... Its funny how copy right works, ( with car company's) They just trade mark the name, not how the vehicle looks. (well most companys don't and work is one that they don't) so they can make it look just like the crown vic just can't call it a crown vic. Or they can buy the rights to the crown vic then they can call everything they want a crown vic lol... (which I think will cost a few thousand)

A car maker does have the car shape copyrighted. It's standard practice along with the name to do the car shape, or everyone could make a Ferrari knockoff and sell it cheaply..

 

Say you want a Porsche clone, You can't go and 1:1 copy the shape. You either have to change it up a fair bit, Porsche front, light strip across the back (which actually i think would look better) and rebadge it, then release/sell it.

 

Or, option 2....and this is done in the automotive world.

 

Do a RUF, buy the chassis, then modify it and sell it as a different car, a 911 can be sold as a RUF RT8 or RT12, it's essentially a Porsche chassis, but rebadged. (Actually RUF are more than willing to show up in games, they're cheap and VERY easy to license), Ruf is a stand in for Porsche since Porsche is EA exclusive now so game companies put RUF cars in to replace them. And RUF make some fine real and virtual cars ya know!

EDIT: If they bought the rights Ford could easily tell the devs what to remove or they'll pull their cars from the game. It was often speculated but never proven Ferrari forced devs to make their cars the best in the game else the devs would lose licensing

Not entirely true.  There are patents and trademarks on certain aesthetics of vehicles.  My very good buddy is a patent attorney for Ford, previously Chrysler, and they go after other companies for things like that; aesthetics and likeness.

 

For example, Ford would have sued anybody who made an unauthorized copy of the venerable Ford Willys Jeep with the 5-slot grill.  That is patented and trademarked.  So many model companies would make it a 7-slot grill or 4-slot, because Jeep would not give them the rights/license to make that exact Jeep...probably to this day that particular Willies in unavailable as a model of any sort, been a long time since I've concerned myself with that.

I am very happy to read that you still keep up all ideas you mentioned at the very beginnig of the project. We were discussing the off-duty tasks to make sure you actually implement them.

 

What is more, if graphics are okay (not GTA IV, but let's say GTA SA) and the game runs smoothly, I guess every real enthusiast will love your game. But please don't disappoint us by abandoning this project!

Yes, you can't make it look 100% a like but if you add a antenna and change the grill up then it they can't trade mark it. It can look 99.99% a like but its that 0.01% that counts and holds up in court as its not the same car. You just can't put the ford symbol or crownvic symbol on it. 

One thing nobody has mentioned and I don't see anywhere is radio chatter. Will we be able to use the radio to be dispatched, say we are responding, on scene, etc? I know in the briefing it says calling for reinforcements - will we be able to call for paramedics and firefighters as well (in the development log it says there will be a firehouse and hospital)? None of it has to be actual voices, it could be all text. Just something similar to what is being done in the EMS mod by Mordecki (

I understand that this is of course an alpha and there is a lot of work to be done, but I really hope you put an emphasis on car handling and vehicle modifications. I know myself and many other people on LCPDFR love to be able to put it any car they want, and can easily make new skins for cars.

 

As well, I'd like to see a nice emergency lighting system such as ELS, but of course that can all come after the initial release of the game. 

 

Other than that, it is looking great. I'm really looking forward to seeing this develop into a proper, beautiful game. 

 

And lastly, on the topic of radio chatter from above:

It would be really nice to get some dispatchers coming over the radio sending you to calls. I'm sure that the LCPDFR community would do the voice-acting for you because it wouldn't be that hard to get a few lines like "Mark 1509, can you respond to a possible shots fired call?".
