I don't think he would be so stupid to do that, seems he's a clever guy.

 That's months of additional training and effort that is not previously required for those guys behind a desk. From what I've read, he sat in an AS3 role (possibly as a result of his marksmanship rating, as well as other factors) for a majority of his career. So, a lot of paperwork was the majority of his life with little continuous training made available to him.

 

 

So in essence he was your run of the mill, Intel guy with the minimum level of small unit tactics. I'm just reading up on his profile via the release of his Naval Records (Again take it with a grain of salt); being assigned to a Force Protection unit.

 

 

Regardless, he brings a terrible reputation to all of those who have served in uniform, and I hope he's stopped rather quickly.

 

Agreed, although I understand where he is coming from and can even barely sympathize with his cause; he could of used other avenues to address this matter. Instead he decided to use the tools and training that he received for evil.

Again I can only speak in regards to my experiences up here. If his unit was on the ball regarding battle standards then he would have had to work with the guys in his unit, reading up on his Naval Records and seeing that he was assigned to a Force Protection unit the puzzle pieces fall into place.

It is a scary thought simply because the majority of law enforcement officers have no prior military experience and can not "counter" tactics that are taught in the Armed Forces. I.E. Andres Ray (Ceres, CA).

 

Nothing to sympathize with.  If you do, there is something seriously wrong with you.  He murdered innocent people...a young girl and her boyfriend, she was the daughter of his attorney I believe.

What does the FBI have to do with this? Unless he's broken federal laws, the FBI has no jurisdiction here. Local and state law enforcement can request aid (I believe), but CHP, LAPD, LASD, etc. all have very well-trained and well-equipped tactical units, so the FBI probably isn't taking over anything (they might be used as "more people", and I could see federal agents being asked to do that, but they certainly aren't lead). Remember that the FBI isn't like "elite cops". It's different from state and local law enforcement, not really "better".

Also, Rambo is a movie. Fiction. This guy is certainly dangerous, but he's up against the full power of the police force. He is insanely outnumbered and outgunned, with no allies. This doesn't end with him winning. The only worry is that he might kill more police or civilians before he's stopped (also, the corruption concerns, but that's separate).

@Comm: A lot of American cops do have prior military experience, especially on tactical teams. Most departments give hiring advantages to veterans, and larger agencies often specifically recruit them. This guy wasn't the only veteran with the LAPD. I'm not sure how it works in Canada (it may be different there), but that's how it is here.

Yeah, because the LAPD asked for help. Most of the people involved aren't federal.

(My post was more a reaction to the GTA-style idea that FBI are the elite mooks of law enforcement)

It has, both CNN and multiple news agency's report two officers shot, but no known status. If you listen to the radio scanner you could hear them stating they are transporting the patients.

 

I would appear that the feed (Scanner radio) has been taken off line either by the feed director the law enforcement to try and not allow him to hear their status/locations.

The LAPD has a long history of misconduct, just read up on the Rodney King incident and the subsequent riots, the Rampart scandal.

 

The CRASH team in GTA:SA was based on the real-life CRASH team in the LAPD, they even based the individual cops on those in the real-life CRASH.

 

The LAPD wants to silence this guy, not bring him to justice.

 

I don't see why this guy deserves to die more than the other "mass murders"  in the US, they are being labelled as mentally ill.

 

It's not "just" the LAPD. The Miami police uncovered several officers who disregarded 911 calls to conduct personal business while on the clock, the NYPD often comes under attack for similar things.

 

It's a widespread problem, not localized to LA, however they seem to be the epicentre of  the whole thing.

Drones are simply unmanned aerial vehicles. You know those RC planes people fly as a hobby? Those are drones; they're small drones, but they are the same concept as larger drones. Weapons are placed on a *very few* drones flown by the US military, but almost all drones are just cameras and other sensors mounted to an aircraft which is controlled from the ground. For obvious reasons, law-enforcement drones tend to not be armed.
