US Election 2012

Featured Replies

So, of the just under 5,000 unique visitors who came to www.lcpdfr.com on Saturday, about 45% of them were from the US - quite an overwhelming majority indeed with us Brits in 2nd making up close to 8% and Canada coming 3rd with 6.5%. Given that the 2nd Presidential debate just ended, and the campaigns are in full swing, what exactly does everyone think of the election and maybe even US politics in general? Is it true that the candidate with the most money wins, or is there more to it? Right now it looks as though most people are calling the debate a win for Obama, or a tie at least, but does this really change anything? Realistically it's a choice between two parties and two politicians, so are most peoples' minds made up way before the campaign even starts?

Personally I think that the politics of the USA is just morally corrupt with far too many outside influences and big businesses getting their way. The recent recordings of Romney talking about 47% of Americans being government dependent victims and voting for Obama no matter what were for me just a clear sign that Romney is someone that is just painfully out of touch with most people like lots of the Obama attack ads have been trying to paint him as, and the fact that it happened at some sort of rich people dinner fundraiser thing I think speaks for itself in that it was most likely an attempt by him to get the Republican/conservative millionaires on his side by showing them his true colours. Of course, Obama has been getting a lot of pressure piled on him regarding the state of the economy and obviously he has a case to answer there, although is it really fair to expect that in just 4 years everything would be back to normal? Perhaps that's maybe Obama's fault for perhaps promising too much back in 2008 and not delivering enough.

Ultimately, if I could vote I would have to go with Obama as Romney just seems like a jerk to me that's never really met an ordinary person in his life. I think his stuff on controlling womens bodies is ridiculous and a lot of his points just seem like really opportunistic attacks on Obama, and not really on creating his own vision, which I guess applies the other way too. Sadly it just looks like one of the biggest things of the election season is how much money candidates spend on attacking each other rather than trying to sell themselves. The whole political spectrum in the US, and to a certain extent, the UK, seems to be about money and who has the most of it, which was really horribly evident last time back in 2010 when former eBay exec Meg Whitman spent something like $180,000,000 on her campaign to become the governor of California and former WWE exec Linda McMahon spending $60,000,000 odd on her campaign to win a senate seat in Connecticut. It all just seems a bit surreal that people would spend all that money on something and the only reason I can think of really is that they want the power. If you wanted to do good or something, why not just go around and invest the money in proper charitable programs in the state? Maybe you could go and get people off the streets, prop up failing schools, improve transport and create jobs instead of throwing it all at an election?

"You tell me exactly what you want, and I will very carefully explain to you why it cannot be."

FYI: That CEO bulling demeanor and posturing that Romney has - is annoying, arrogant and unwanted.

obama is a damgerous man...he signed ndaa which gives him authority to detain/kill any american without trial...also he likes talking about bypassing congress to do what he wants he should be impeached arrested and tried for war crimes ...romney is a corporate scum bag im not voting for neither of these two psychos...im voting for third party im tired of the corruption

World leaders corrupt? *GASP*

You could write pages and pages on this topic. I think its sad how we were lead to believe (like sheep if you will) that this administration would do good things with our tax dollars and be completely transparent, etc. etc. The only guy I'd vote for is Ron Paul, but yes the next 4 years are gonna suck.... :(

@Nutt Just curious what was your feeling on Biden's demeanor at the VP debate?

Voting for Romney, only because I feel his is the lesser of the two evils. Obama cut the military spending which in turn is causing me to look for a new job as our base is closing.

As it was already pointed out, under the Obama administration the NDAA which gives the president the power to indefinately detain anyone anywhere (including Americans on US soil) was signed, and Romney has said he supports it. Other things that have happened under the Obama administration that I strongly disagree with:

-NDAA

-Patriot Act Renewal

-HR 347 (Makes it a felony to have free speech at political events)

-Secretary of Defense that lectured the Senate about how the UN and NATO control our military, not Congress (Never has a leader of a world power said that the military was under foreign control)

-Expansion of TSA powers (Ordering people to freeze, testing breast milk for explosives, testing drinks that were purchased inside the gates)

-Approval to put 30,000 drones over US skies

-Fast and Furious, which was designed to place blame on the second amendment and to work to restrict it

However, I know that Romney would've done the same, as they have both taken well over a billion in campaign contributions from banks like Goldman Sachs. If I could vote and believed that the elections weren't rigged, I would vote Gary Johnson, but with the amount of fraud that went on in the Republican Primary alone and the fact that this years elections are being counted by Dybold voting machines that are going to be processed by an Israeli corporation in Spain, I would write in Ron Paul since the vote doesn't matter anyways.

Sticks and stones may break bones, but 5.56 fragments on impact.

no such thing as lesser of the two evils still voting for evil they are both funded by goldman sachs and the private offshore banking cartel

Obama had his chance. Now lets see how romney can handle it. Eh, I just want to get Obama out. Dont care who gets in.

But then again I cant vote yet. So my opinion is just what I believe. Also, dont quote me and say Im just a kid and I am going off what my parents say because I actually, while I never ever want to be involved with politics, have been watching and analysing almost all three of the debates.

Though I'm not american, if I had to choose I'd chose Obama. I'm not 100% informed about both candidates things, but I think Obama represents more to the most of the population, the middle class, than a rich guy who doesn't want taxes for the riches.

I don't know why people complains so much about Obama's work this past 4 years, since he has done advances such as the sanitary reform, also he saved chrysler; if it would have sunk it would have been a big economical lost for the usa.

Also during the campaign from both candidates Obama has showed more expertise than Romney, and let's not speak of things Romney said about the americans, such as the famous 47% of the americans comment, something that a president of a democratic country shouldn't think and less say.

By other hand I don't know why are so worried about the military, for god's sake, the Cold War ended 20 years ago...

So that's a sum up of my opinion, I can't say all I think since my English level wouldn't allow to express it as good I'd want.

After watching the debates it is clear that Obama must gain this position once more. Romney's taxation plans make little sense, don't add up mathematically, and he doesn't go into specifics about them even when specifically asked to. He danced around and dodged all of the questions during the 2nd debate, interrupted both the moderator and Obama [and got subsequently stirred up when they did the same to him], and just gives off the out-of-touch rich white businessman vibe. The United States does not need the same tax-breaks for big business and a similar economic plan that got us into this mess in the first place.

One of Obama's best rebuttals from the 2nd debate;

No offense man, but as someone who claims to be well informed and educated about politics and the election you have made one of the most worrying statements a voter (or in your case someone who would vote if they could) can make. People who say that they would vote for anyone as long as Obama's out should not vote. They clearly don't understand the gravity and importance of the situation. If you really did watch all three debates and listened to what they had to say, you should be choosing based on their policies, their integrity, and their plan for America among other key ideas. What you basically said, even if it's not what you meant, is that you would choose a candidate who would drastically worsen the country irreversibly, as long as Obama was no longer in office. Unfortunately too many people believe that, and it's very dangerous for Americas democracy.

Bingo. what this guy said. I heard one of my elderly neighbors talking on the phone with someone and she said that obama personally sent her a letter saying this that and the other about the healthcare, and that it HAD to be obama because everything in the mail is always hand written by those who send it. Point is, she was so out of touch with people and what the hell was actually going on that she was going to vote for romney because she felt like obama should have called her. wtf? We dont need ANY politicians...how about an act that took every single individual in politics and gave their asses the boot...how about that mr. obama?

Romney and Obama are both cancers to this nation. The Republican establishment cheated Ron Paul out of the race, so I support Gary Johnson. I know he isn't going to win, but some sort of stand, some sort of protest has to be made.

I like what a political YouTuber named TheSouthernAvenger (aka, Jack Hunter) said: "Barack Obama deserves to lose this election, but Mitt Romney does not not deserve to win it."

Yeah, re reading my post it sounded a lil ignorant.

The main reasons I hate Obama and not love but like Romney is due to their basic foreign policies and just military in general. A strong military is a strong nation. Obama cut the military while Romney will attempt to restore the military(to what I understand). Furthermore, some of Obama's liberal actions such as attempting to integrate the terrorist at Guantanamo(or however you spell it) into max security prisons on US mainland was just awful.

However, I didnt completely write off Obama until the apologies started to come. Whenever s**t happens to the US whether its our fault or not, there is always an apology. Most recently, the PLANNED attacks against our Embassies abroad. Notice I say planned, there have been several Intelligence Agents who have come out and said that they alerted the Obama Administration of a threat against us. Not only was there intel, but it was the anniversary of 9/11. Therefore, you would think you would have people secured and have the embassies have some armed men in them. Also, the Ambassador to Libya that was killed even thought he was on a hit list. Who were his guards? Two ex-navy seals. However, there was never anything done because according to Obama it was a spontaneous protest that had some "bad eggs" protesters in it and it turned violent.

Obama come across to many foreigners as a weakling that isnt prepared to defend the country with whatever it takes. I personally feel that Romney comes across as an arrogant f**k that most organizations and countries arent willing to push around because he isnt going to apologize.

Finally, while that is my stance on foreign stuff, I cannot really say who I would vote for if I could vote(well I would vote romney to support republicans) but at this stage, if I was able to vote, I probably wouldnt vote for anyone because the rest of the stuff they talk about in the debates is comprehendible but I dont fully understand it all.

Oh, and to the person who -1'd my post due to the fact I support Romney, I just did say it to your face again. Do you have a problem with the fact I support someone you do not in a FREE COUNTRY????? Huh?

There is a difference between a strong military and a global police force. Cuts the military need to be made. We don't need to be fighting in ridiculous wars and maintaining a presence in every country on the face of the earth. The military should be used to defend ourselves, not fight for everyone else. Iraq and Afghanistan were mistakes, and Iran will be another mistake under Romney. Let Israel deal with those wackjobs. And don't vote for someone based on party. Party politics have rendered Congress useless. Look at that bum Harry Reid. Supported auditing the Fed in the 90's, now tried to block it because it was introduced by Ron Paul. Or anything else that has been attempted in Congress. And remember that party does not necessarily define ideology. The Republican party is conservative in their rhetoric, but far from it in reality. Ron Paul and Gary Johnson are real conservatives. Libertarians. Goldwater people. Finally, you made yourself look damn silly with that last paragraph.
