You can turn the 3D waypoints on or off from the Settings menu. If they're enabled, they will appear while the menu is open. It sounds like for your situation, you could turn them off while you're not creating or editing paths.- 238 comments

I would venture to guess it has nothing to do with technical limitations. I would assume it was either not a priority during development, or the devs were seeking a more realistic experience.
There is a bug with the Silent Backup feature which causes nearby AI to turn their lights/siren on if your lights are at stage 3. This bug is currently being addressed in the early access version available to patrons, along with new features.- 386 comments
