  1. Nice to see this around. I remember a headline a few years ago about the best dressed police vehicles on a Canadian site. I thought it was "okay" looking. But I am liking it more over time and is now a favourite. I think it comes back to that clean simple use of black and white.
  2. I think this is like a lot of discussions in life where there are several major pieces(talking points) that make up a complete picture/goal. Things are never that simple. And similarly another point is, can you be certain about most things in life? Financial issues or health, medical emergencies that catch a lot of us off guard. Cancer, illness, serious injury, there are some situations where you have no control of. I can't personally say I will never get sick or hurt. I'm sure a lot of us try to be healthy, do the right things and not take risks on things we are not comfortable with. But unexpected things WILL happen, and the effort, most of our strength is put towards overcoming the problem. I think the main point going on the community side of things, is how it will be handled. With what I have already said, let's say that the locked model feature is implemented. I believe Oleg is the dev for Zmodeler. And some of his discussions have been posted to this forum. Even with this hypothetical situation, I don't think any model author/creator would believe that their work will never be ripped off even if it is locked. That phrase about building a higher wall and the other side making a taller ladder. This may be an issue that no one can ever win. And these discussions can get heated and simply load up the powder keg for a nasty boom every other week. I've not got into GTA V much and I guess I am looking at this debate from a distance. (usual disclaimer- lots of generalizations, no one is being put on the spot. this is about ideas and perspectives.) Trying to look through hopefully a sensible view point, is that a model creator doesn't believe that it will never happen. But what can be done and what action is actually taken once it happens. I can imagine that some may not have confidence in certain sites to be able to manage it. And there are probably some authors that don't expect ANY site to be able to manage reports/complaints. To try to come to an understanding. Having a lock feature or no lock feature is not what the community is about. We can discuss our opinions, but that doesn't guarantee anything. Oleg could have a poll on his site and the "community" votes [9980] for unlocked & [20] for locked models. Does this mean he has no choice but to leave it unlocked! Absolutely hell NO. Zmodeler is his creation and he can take it in whatever direction he chooses. I know money will likely be brought up to sway decisions. This is a reality we deal with, but it doesn't bring up good debates about that issue. You should not connect issues like that because that is not what modding and community are about. What I'd like to say to all the content creators(btw I probably wouldn't be playing LCPDFR if I didn't think I would be able to replicate my local pd vehicles), the community shouldn't be telling you what to do. Community is a mutual thing, idea of cooperation. We all have our ideas and opinions on a topic. In the end, it is your creation. If you don't feel comfortable with an idea or have confidence that your work will be taken care of and respected. You have to make that call and not force yourself to do anything. It is very unfortunate in saying this(I may not ever get to use my PDs cars in GTA V) but you have to stand firm with what you believe in because there is trust there. This is a 2 way street and the community needs to respect the author's decision as well. If there is no understanding and people are shunned because of their choices... What community is there then...... To try to conclude my thoughts, the locked model issue is entirely in Oleg's court. He may take some consideration of what the "community" wants or he may take none. There is the possibility that a technical, design or monetary constraint that could affect the decision of the Zmod creator. That is something he has the right to do, and you have the choice of supporting it or not. The community will still be around no matter what the outcome is. Respect other's decisions and find ways to include people, not divide them.
  3. Okay, understood. I haven't installed a tahoe model for quite some time and guessing that I miss them ingame. Time to go searching.
  4. Only recently had some time to load up the game. I prefer marked slicktops and played around with the San Diego model and I like it. BTW, have you made any tahoes for SD Police? They look pretty nice as well.
  5. Like everyone else, welcome to the forum. That is pretty neat if GTA V is drawing your interest on something to work on. I want to learn how to put together a vehicle model with GTA V. So whenever that is possible, I hope to put a little bit of time as a hobby. It is sunny and hot over here in western Canada.
  6. I share your sentiment. Condolences to the family. Even being a province away, still feels too close when an incident like this happens. (I don't think I could ever have what it takes to be a police officer. But I support my brother who is after that goal.)

  8. Nice looking design and strangely my first thought was what if the vehicle was a stealthy grey base. So the vehicles are generally a white base? I have been looking at a lot of different depts and wondering what would look good as a marked stealth design. It can sound silly, I know. But I did see a high res picture of the rear if that helps. I see a Unit # on the roof behind lightbar. Go to Flickr to see it. Zoom and higher resolutions to choose from.
  9. I don't know what Piranha 2 is. But when a subject is phrased in such a way,, you almost want to see the inevitable train wreck. But I can't find any MST3K references. So I'll assume it has no redeeming value whatsoever and just pretend it doesn't exist. Easier for me than for you I guess.
  10. Have you ironed out all the current issues? I could test after you've made the updates, or if you want I could help hunt stuff down and I'll download whatever is up right now.
  11. To the opening poster, I recommend not getting riled up over either people's opinions about a game or trolls who like to crap on old things. There are many different aspects of a game to like or dislike. An example is story, some people will like a certain story whereas someone else will have a completely opposite opinion and say it is old and tired. The reasoning is as simple as the latter person playing 5 games that had a similar story while the it is the first for the person who liked it. Same can be said about the aesthetic, graphic style. And also the locale depicted. Hey Liberty City/New York, woohoo awesome! Some people will see a whole bunch of ugly buildings, roads everywhere, concrete jungle. I live in a big city and it looks mundane. No thanks, I'll pass. So some people really don't like the game. To answer your question, it is their opinion and there is no problem whatsoever. Which goes with what you said. This is your opinion and people can disagree with you in a discussion. So besides that, there are only trolls and they will crap on things for no good reason. Don't give them the time of day, don't get baited. Here is my GTA IV story timeline. --> Location, characters, didn't interest me. Skipped the game. --> Hey police mod for GTA IV, never played anything like that before. SOLD! --> Performance issues, sometimes getting headaches from the wild frame drops. dozens of reinstalls trying to optimize. Tired, annoyed, I QUIT. --> Hey someone made a police vehicle similar to my local PD. I wanted that 2 years ago and now it is doable. Starts playing the game again and lately I've been spending more time there than in GTA V. THE POINT, I still think GTA IV is a mediocre game and very shitty PC port.
  12. And for some variety. I don't use impalas but this one changed my mind. Very simple, basic, clean set up. As long as the pattern exists in ELS, it does what you need. Has a traffic advisor for secondary lighting sitting at the bottom of the rear window. And an oldie but goodie. This MSP crown vic model was made when an older ELS was used. It uses red and blues for sec-lighting, no amber lighting on it. The PRML and SECL don't really differentiate each other very much but I like the set up. Also uses different rims.
  13. Okay, yea CJ24's vehicles are some of my favourites. But from the comments, I believe that specific pack was designed without them. (and I should mention older car models, may not take advantage of the newer ELS versions/features but the basic lighting still works) Try these as a replacement, or check out his other downloads. He makes a lot of NON ELS cars, so make sure the file is labelled ELS.
  14. You pretty much got it. Extras, 7,8,9 are used as secondary lighting. And if the car wasn't modelled with one, it has to be "remade". Or you need to find another model to use instead. I can't think of any way ELS can be used to get around that. And interesting thought about the ENV light position. I've never played with the light positions, but I think all the ENV_LIGHT options strictly deal with light on the environment such as the road, buildings, background objects. So what colour appears on the ground and where the lights appear to emanate from. BUT not, how it appears on the car/lightbar. It can take a while to wrap your head around these settings. The fact you are trying to learn and find workarounds, means you are on the right track to figuring what you want to do. (Post the vehicle details if you want. No outside links though. Maybe someone will have some suggestions for other car models that are similar.)
  15. I have a pretty good guess of what it is. (can't find a good, short simple video of 8.5 for you...) Light Stage One, turns only your traffic advisor on. And the default ELS settings are made with the assumption the car model has one. It sounds like the model was not designed with one in mind. So go to your ELS folder, which may have 2 or more files currently: _SLOTCONTROL & default_config. (i recommend you to make copies of default_config in the same folder.) Okay edit the original file, extras 7, 8, 9 are normally used for the traffic advisor. In this example you see 7,8,9 coloured amber. Since that vehicle model doesn't use it, go to [ ENV_LIGHT_ACTIVE ] and change 7,8,9 to off. [ ENV_LIGHT_COLORS ] Extra_1 = red Extra_2 = red Extra_3 = red Extra_4 = red Extra_5 = white Extra_6 = white Extra_7 = amber Extra_8 = amber Extra_9 = amber [ ENV_LIGHT_ACTIVE ] Extra_1 = on Extra_2 = on Extra_3 = on Extra_4 = on Extra_5 = off Extra_6 = off Extra_7 = on Extra_8 = on Extra_9 = on (if you are customizing a whole bunch of vehicles, then you should also learn about the _SLOTCONTROL file.)
