  1. It's a manufactured Hollywood siren. They use it in a lot of movies with police cars in them. Check out the Gone in 60 Seconds chase scene:
  2. Cops are people. Some people are bad, some are good. That's the way of the world These two officers below are in the news for buying a poor family groceries when they responded to a call and noticed there was no food in the refrigerator. They could have taken any kids away and sent them to a foster family for that, because by law you need to be able to provide food for your child. But instead they decided to blow their own money on food. http://abc13.com/society/police-officers-buy-groceries-for-needy-family/153010/ That's not what preaching to the choir means.
  3. I'd go part picking on Newegg. And those weren't recommended items, they were the top items available at the time.
  4. It's probably a combination of everything. The CPU is old, therefore the motherboard and the hard drive is probably running an old version of SATA which slows down data transfer rate. The RAM would be old too, again having a slower data transfer rate. And the version of PCI express would be old too, capping graphical performance. For a modern computer, the GTX 650ti is mediocre by gaming standards, but would allow you to get medium to possibly high details if the rest of your hardware was fine.
  5. Terrible, you should be more worried about your graphics card than your RAM. That being said, the weak CPU is going to bottleneck the performance anyway. Slightly less terrible, but still bad. You need to stop worrying about "upgrades" that don't have anything to do with performance. Your concern is processing power and graphical power, or lack thereof, rather. Hard drive space won't help you. It's only going to allow you to install more games that won't run properly. Make your budget a minimum of $800.
  6. Continuing from where I left off, Beyond the loot you get from dungeons, they do indeed have a story arc that parallels the core story of any Guild Wars 2 player. All players at one point or another encounter a group of "Legendary" dragon fighters who split apart after the death of a fellow fighter. Each dungeon sees a step towards their reunification in story mode. Explorable mode however has side stories that help to flesh out the game a little more. That being said, I've never been in a group that let me watch every cut scene. Most people like to blow through it. So if you're a lore junkie, or want to try and enjoy the story, bring a few friends along so you don't get pushed into hitting the 'Skip' button. As far as RPG's go, I do indeed like to read the story. For me it makes the game a bit more meaningful other than just being "gear porn". The dungeons are beautiful places visually. While you may find places like them throughout the world, nothing comes quite close to the real thing, though after several visits the charm wears off and you start to take it for granted a bit. As far as loot rewards go though, there are other ways of getting new "shinys". One exciting way is a world event. World events can come in many forms. Legendary bosses that require several scores of players to take down are triggered by guild events or certain activity within a region of the map, Champion bosses that need to be fought with a larger group of people are on a respawn timer and can be farmed in some cases, and Veteran level NPCs that can be taken out by a small group or even all by yourself if you have the right build for it. The Legendary boss drops are especially rewarding, but can only be taken advantage of once every 24 hours in order to make sure the in-game economy isn't ruined. The sheer number of players you see on screen breaks the sense monotony you may get if you play alone all the time or on a low population server. The Legendary Karka guild event requires scores of people in order to complete. Not just because the boss hits extremely hard and she has a high health pool, but also because you have to 'kill her twice'. Her health spikes back up to full after you down her once. Think of it as breaking the shell of a crab before you can actually kill it. I never was a fan of shell fish. The loot from events can be very lucrative or beneficial to your character. Even if you just get some salvageable stuff you can't use, you'll get a lot of it. And it comes in a giant sized chest to make you feel like you worked your ass off. Even if you just wanded a boss at a distance and let other people do the heavy lifting. Remember that with loot of any sort, you can turn it into gold somehow. If you get a complete weapon, you can sell it as is or salvage it for raw materials. You may get crafting ingredient drops, and you can even just get money from chests, plain and simple. Never mind the huge XP gain you get from any boss, dungeon or otherwise. Money is needed to accomplish many things in this game. It needs to be hoarded to a small to moderate extent for crafting purposes, equipping your characters with gear if you don't have karma points or laurels to spend, and of course buying things off of the gem store to aid your day to day gameplay, or making yourself look pretty. If you play the game a decent amount, you too can look as ridiculous as this without having to spend a dime of any real money. You can get anything off of the gem store simply by converting in game gold into "gems" if you don't want to use any real money. And you don't even have to really work that hard to get decent money. I can make a minimum of a little over 10 gold each night by running three dungeon paths which takes about an hour or two if done with a good group. Heck, if you get enough money, you even get achievement points and a wearable title for it. At 200 gold in my bank, I'll get a title and more achievement points just simply for being considered "rich", by ArenaNet standards. 200 gold is still chicken scratch compared to the 2-3000 I'd need to spend on a Legendary weapon if I didn't want to craft it myself. If you don't have money on your mind, or gear you need to get, there are other events that tie into the ongoing world stories. These pop up every month or so and can include new bosses to fight, new places to explore, and even carnivals. Last month was the "Festival of The Four Winds" which took place above Lions Arch. Yup, above. As in 'in and above the clouds'. These offered up mini games to play which gave you some tokens to turn in for various prizes. Rare materials, food items and even unique wearable items that may not be given out ever again. You can see visually that ArenaNet isn't slacking off when creating new areas, even if they're only temporary. ArenaNet isn't slacking off when creating new areas, even if they're only temporary. While this covers much of the fun stuff, some of you folks may be curious about the more technical parts of the game, such as crafting, and also the more competitive aspects, such as Arena PVP and Open World PVP. I'll get into these in the next post I do since it's getting late. I'll even see about uploading a video or two from the game. Enjoy a couple more dungeon & open area beauty shots before I head to bed. Fireheart Rise, just outside the Citadel of Flames dungeon/ Inside the Citadel of Flames dungeon, waiting for everyone to gather together. A vista somewhere near the Shiverpeak Mountains. This game engine is capable of some wonderful things. This is an artists vision come to life. My Elementalist in Ascalon Catacombs. A female with both beauty and brains who does your bidding. Isn't that every man's dream?
  7. That's the onboard graphics built into the processor. AMD make "APUs" not CPUs. An Accelerated Processing Unit has a GPU chip built onto the CPU die, but has no dedicated memory of its own and is missing a lot of components that make it an actual graphics card. Why do you think the CPU chip has such a tiny place on the motherboard while the slots for graphics cards have lots of free space around them?
  8. It has no graphics card. It may run it in theory, but not well. Most folks would recommend building your own, and upping the budget by about $300 minimum.
  9. I want to make this a giant thread of nothing but YouTube videos focused on comedy and nothing more. If this gets big enough, let's make it a sticky. I'll start it off.
  10. The AMD's clock speed is higher because the performance of each CPU clock is much lower. Same thing with number of cores. You're better off going Intel for CPU, and nVidia for graphics, provided money isn't an object, or you can find a good deal. I also agree that you shouldn't spend over $500 on a video card, ever, unless you must run a massive monitor setup with crazy high resolutions. If you have a normal single monitor, just use one card between $300-$500 so you can buy new ones if you have to when a new lineup comes out.
  11. Changing those wouldn't reduce the number of radio call outs for it, and likely wouldn't effect the chance of a pursuit after you initiate a traffic stop and approach the car window. I think that's only tied into "world events" that happen with AI police vehicles. But I may be wrong, a dev would have to respond.
  12. No there aren't. Police don't use them because it's very top heavy and horribly un-aerodynamic. It's also front wheel drive unless the all wheel drive system kicks in when the vehicle is sliding, which is horrible for cornering because the front wheels have to handle 262 horse power (which isn't much to propel such a huge vehicle) and also deal with the steering of something the size of a small boat. Between this and your thread about the Ford Escape, you really seem to like ugly cars for some reason.
  13. No. Police usually used Ford Expeditions in the early 2000's because the Escapes were too small and didn't deliver enough power.
  14. The video card is the most important component of a desktop gaming computer with the exception of the processor. It should be a big investment. Currently it's actually going for $330, but $350 is a bargain compared to the $500 cost of the top of the range model 780. A 770 is a 780 that didn't come off of the assembly line with the correct amount of shader cores or couldn't clock itself as high with stable results. So they're very inexpensive for how powerful they are.
  15. Inb4 someone says 'Flip around the text size'.
  16. No problem. I'm not saying "never do it ever" by the way, but it's not a decision to take lightly since it can shorten the lifespan of your parts or break them if you do it wrong.
  17. Anyway, I was a little curious about shipping it as well. I dunno how many people on here are willing to drive to your state to go get it. lol
  18. Agreed. Can you get the rumbler to go underneath the air horn? Try this video for reference: Start at around :58 for the horn, the rumbler tone underneath it starts a couple of seconds later.
  19. What a shock. Release time and people who are new to the OS not understanding how to use it. What point of yours did I prove? You stated that Windows 8 performs worse and is "unfriendly to gamers" in general, which isn't based on anything factual. You'd find the same plethora of posts you'd find by Googling things like Windows 7 vs Windows XP (insert random game name) performing worse or not working. And user friendliness depends on the person using it. Just because you may find it uncomfortable doesn't make it so for everyone else. My arguments are based off of facts, performance figures and real world experience. Yours seem to revolve around internet forum threads and the popular seemingly personal bias tons of people have. While complaints about Windows 8 may exist, only some of them are actual problems with the operating system. In a controlled environment, with a technologically competent user; Windows 8 outperforms Windows 7, period. No flaming intended, just a debate.
  20. What's your budget? I wouldn't spend any less than $240. Probably because he bought his computer from Best Buy or some other retailer that way and never changed it. It's likely a Dell or something. Those companies love advertising computers as having dedicated graphics but it's just an attempt to grab more money. They throw in a useless PCI Express graphics cards and call it a gaming computer. Yes but I wouldn't advise it. It's called overclocking for a reason. You're upping the clock speed of the card by increasing voltage and increasing heat beyond it's factory capabilities.
  21. Or not. A 770 is a 780 with about a 5% performance difference, which an OC can fix. Comparison for dummies: http://www.hwcompare.com/17293/geforce-gtx-750-ti-vs-geforce-gtx-770/ That's terrible also. All the cards you're looking at are less than $100 for a reason. Anything under a 650/750 is useless, and you still only have a mediocre card until you look at the 660/760 range and above.
  22. Graphics card's below part, rest is fine.
