That's true. However, I play most games with 4K DSR. So most of the time I'm playing at 30-40 fps, I'm used to it. However, for those that play at 1080 and want 60 fps, this could be a huge issue.

I don't play any games in 4K DSR. Many people probably don't either, so it should be running at 60fps given the specs they've released. The fact it isn't, review copy or not, is outright stupid.

  • Wait… I was supposed to do missions in Mafia II? I thought the whole objective of the game was to lose all your wheel trim/hub caps while the police unload M1 Tommy mags into you.

  • pick mine up earlier. Installing it now   Even though the game uses Steam, I'm glad the retail copy has the installation for the game on discs (I counted 5 in total). This makes things easy

Strike one for Hangar 13, then. The fact that they weren't bragging about the PC version or its graphics/optimization concerned me.

I think this will end up being a console built game, ported to PC and released at the same time to make ti appear like a full set of releases rather than ports. I'm gonna keep my eye on that article because that is very concerning to me, a day away from release.

Performance-wise, apparently the 30FPS cap is specific to the review copies according to some sources, so we'll see. In addition to the main game, hopefully a trainer gets made that lets me disable the wanted level, change player model to a cop and then crack some mob heads in with a nightstick. A hyper-violent Adam-12 simulator :P.

The Mafia 3 devs have finally released their statement confirming that it is capped at 30fps NOT JUST FOR REVIEW COPIES. But for launch of the game as well, stating a patch will be made available.

30fps cap is so that it is "consistent" across platforms. Very disappointing.

When I think of cross-platform consistency I think of making sure it all feels the same, looks the same, and has the same actual content. Having the same framerate is not among those things.

I'll never understand some game devs...

I have already pre-loaded the game! I am disappointed by the 30 FPS cap and the late announcement of it but I hope they release the patch shortly for the PC version. The specs seem pretty demanding for this game so Im anxious to see what FPS I would even get.

Im really hoping to play the game before I lose power or worse due to the Hurricane :(

Looks like the frame cap might be fixed pretty fast, thank god.

First impressions:

+ Shooting mechanics - Very fluid and natural.

+ Cover mechanics - Smooth, simple, and effective.

+ Driving - Contrary to popular belief, it's not that bad. I've tried both Normal and Simulation. I'm using simulation, and it's not that far from Mafia II. Vehicles still feel heavy, but not as heavy.

+ Character models - Very realistic looking, among the best I've seen.

+ Map - It's large and has many interiors. There's a lot of life, as well. I walked into a gas station garage, and there was a man working on a car's engine.

- Textures - Some buildings and other miscellaneous textures look quite dated and flat. Maybe some higher resolution textures will be added in a future patch.

- Vehicles - In some lighting they look great, at other times, they look like something out of a game from 2004. Often, in certain weather conditions, vehicles have some weird glossy outline to them. Definitely takes away from some of the immersion.

- Pause Screen Map - There is no legend. There are no markers, other than the ones for missions and activities. For example, it doesn't show you where diners are, police stations, hospitals, etc. Unless... I have to progress a bit further for these to show.

- Weather - During certain weather, the game goes from dark to bright every 30 seconds due to the clouds moving. This is only during one set weather condition, but it feels awkward and unnatural.

Overall, I like the game very much. It met my expectations, excluding the few issues I've mentioned above.

Glad to hear a patch for 60 fps is supposedly going live this weekend.

I just hope they can do something about the god awful potato textures. The game is incredibly fuzzy even on maxed out settings - It looks and feels like a PS3 era game.

I've heard disabling Anti Aliasing helps make it look proper.

Yeah, I've heard that too. I haven't tested it myself yet though.

The PC patch is now live allowing for 60+ fps, but I'm hearing reports that people with GTX 1080's are struggling to achieve a consistent 60 fps. Really quite disappointing considering the story sounds excellent.

I'm only getting 35-50 fps with my Titan X...

I don't see the big deal with the 30 cap I play all my other games at 60+ and Mafia III runs just as smooth. This was before the patch though

I'm also a console gamer, I'm used to 30 fps. However, the game should be more optimized. Hopefully some future patches will do just that.

Otherwise, I'm loving this game.
