  • Wait… I was supposed to do missions in Mafia II? I thought the whole objective of the game was to lose all your wheel trim/hub caps while the police unload M1 Tommy mags into you.

  • pick mine up earlier. Installing it now   Even though the game uses Steam, I'm glad the retail copy has the installation for the game on discs (I counted 5 in total). This makes things easy

I've always liked Mafia 2, so I'm definitely interested to see what they did for 3. Also hoping you won't be bound to the story as much. For such a large city, Empire Bay had surprisingly little to do, other than play missions or get chased by the cops (who are surprisingly easy to lose, too).

Yeah it was a little boring after a while. I liked the shootouts and the chases (the freedrive mod was the stuff), but other than that there was really nothing to do.

I feel that you always had to be creative, and make your own fun. Whether it was robbing stores, turning a diner into a hostage situation and ducking behind the counter/kill cops, etc.

Not to mention that if you include the main game, and all the DLC's, there's a lot of missions to play. Some missions are better than others, some missions are extremely frustrating as well. But overall, I like the game for what it is.

Mafia III seems to address the issues of Mafia II. They've stuffed the world with tons of content and side activities to do when not playing the story. My only concern is that they removed the vehicle refueling system, which was always a classic Mafia feature that made Mafia, Mafia. It was small features like that, which added to the realism of the game. If they removed that, I'm hoping they didn't remove car washes, traffic laws, food, diners, etc.

I'm excited for the game, yet I'm also a little nervous.

That's an understatement....

Nothing more fun than running out of fuel in the middle of a police chase (at least it makes you plan ahead, and then ditch those plans and improvise)

And don't forget working windshield/windscreen* wipers. Didn't even notice that until yesterday (or forgot, haven't played it in ages until this week), but they actually turn on when it's raining, both on player and AI cars. Such a small detail, but so nice.

PS: hope forum software doesn't send 3 notifications due to me quoting 3 bits of your post. If it does, sorry!

Grand Theft Auto V falls into the "nothing really to do" category too when vanilla, it's just the same stuff over and over, however when you get a trainer you can basically do whatever you want and it becomes a lot more fun. I just hope a trainer pops up for Mafia III so I can spawn what I like when I like. There were some trainers for II, but they were always hosted on dodgy sites and generally didn't work or contained very little content (like unlimited ammo).

I haven't really followed the trailer or development that match, that being said. It looks neat enough, it would provide some entertainment for me if I had nothing to do, regardless of any issues that it may have. So there is that, on top of the fact Mafia II was amazing in terms of a storyline.

🕵️‍♂️ Always watching, always waiting.

I wish there were a list of the different release times for specific countries.

Best case scenario would be if they did an SCS and released it Thursday evening.

For those who have no clue what I'm on about, SCS software released American Truck Simulator a few hours early, around 6PM CET, because the planned midnight CET release would have meant staying up all night in case something went wrong, which they didn't want to as they valued their sleep too much.

I loved the original Mafia. I wasn't overly fond of Mafia 2. Far too bland for an open world game. Story was average for a linear game.

Cautious about Mafia 3. While the world looks pretty and the game mechanics look nice, I don't overly like the story set up they've been giving us. But hey ho. Christmas is coming, who knows.

I've personally stayed away from reading/watching to much about it so I don't over hype myself for it. I made that mistake twice before with two totally different games. I've only watched the teasers trailer and the X minuets gameplay trailer from a while ago. However I do pay attention to per-order bonuses.

I believe it's only for review copies.

That would be an AWFUL thing to do if true. Considering a lot of us are buying based on the, you know, reviews?

That's true. However, I play most games with 4K DSR. So most of the time I'm playing at 30-40 fps, I'm used to it. However, for those that play at 1080p and want 60 fps, this could be a huge issue.
