(WIP) LSPDFR/ELS Driving Simulator (Featuring a working console setup)

Featured Replies

I have a project in the works I thought some of you fellow whackers would enjoy. I'm working on a complete driving simulator with a functional console setup for the ultimate realism, it'll work along side with LSPDFR and ELS (When released). Essentially it'll be a USB steering wheel with pedals and a 12" Havis console with normal and momentary rocker switches that will activate ELS functions via USB. I'm also looking into being able to utilize smart controllers (Such as the Feniex 4200) for the ultimate realism. I build law enforcement vehicles for a living and have dealer accounts with multiple industry manufacturers and may look into selling these pre-built console setups down the road if it works out. I'm currently in the process of purchasing all the necessary parts needed for the build, but unfortunately I won't be able to do much until ELS is released. Stay tuned for updates!

I don't foresee any issues getting it to work, the issue would be if I were to produce and sell them, they'd be pricey using actual Havis consoles, faceplates and components. I'm going to see if I can come up with a design and produce consoles from either wood sprayed with a rhino-liner type material to give it the Havis look or see if I can get my hands on some aluminum stock cheap.

Once I get a working prototype together and do some testing on it, I'll set up a website to pre-order. There'll obviously be a lead time on them, I'm a one man operation lol. In the mean time, you can check out some of my work on facebook

okay how much would you charge for it? and also could I "barter" with you to give you website hosting, etc(since I do have a vps - virtual private server cluster I run) for the setup lol?

I'm not sure what the price point would be yet, I'd have to come up with an economy priced console, if I used a genuine Havis console it'd be at least $200 for the console alone. I'm looking to make it affordable.

So I'm looking for a good source for switches. I'm looking to offer some configurable options. Carling switches (the first image below which you would find in an emergency vehicles) for those that are interested in complete realism and a more affordable option such as those in the 2nd image below. Carling switches (depending on how many controls ELS will feature) could run in the upwards of $100+ for the switches alone. I'm also looking to integrate a PTT mic option for use with the vocal dispatch mod. I've also considered other options such as USB ports for phone charging. What other options would you like to see offered?

It could definitely be done down the road, the first prototype will be rockers. I'm probably going to get away from Havis. They're pricey for a gaming controller. I'm not a huge fan of the faceplate rails either that the torx screws thread into. They use genuine Carling rockers, we use Havis for most of our builds at work.

we're approx an hour away from their Warminster headquarters in Palmer twp PA. I'm working up a design to produce my own consoles out of 1/16th aluminum sheets for this setup. It'll be much more cost effective than purchasing consoles from them.

Below you'll see the plan for the prototype console. I used the controls from GTA IV's ELS until I get a set command list for GTA V's ELS. This will be the "Deluxe Version" if I do end up putting them into production. I'm still working on a price point and sourcing of a few select parts, so stay tuned for that information.

Row one: Switch labels

Row two: Sw1=Lighting Levels, SW2= Wigwags, SW3= Traffic Light, SW4= Takedowns, SW5= Cruise Lights, SW6= Blackout Mode (These switches will be able to be remapped by the end user if all goes as planned.)

Row 3: Simulated siren box. Top left switch will be normal siren button function, bottom left will be the air horn, top right will be siren mode (stand by/hands free), bottom right will be the manual siren and the center rotary switch will be tone 1, 2, 3 and 4.

Row 4: Functional cigarette lighter plugs, possibly the addition of USB jacks to charge phones and other devices.

Row 5: Simulated radio. Working on sourcing a panel mount programmable LCD screen to display the simulated dispatch channel name upon powering on. Top left will be the "Volume" dial, but will only turn the lcd on and off. Bottom left will be an emergency button which I'm looking to incorporate the "Emergency Button" mod with to dispatch code 3 backup automatically. I'm also looking into sourcing panel mount 3.5mm jacks to utilize a push to talk mic to incorporate the "Vocal Dispatch" mod so you can communicate your status, request backup and communicate with other players down the road should the ability to play online with mods come into play.

Row 6: Blank insert

Row 7: Cup Holders

Row 8: Blank Insert

I'll be looking to throw a 3D model together in the next few days to better visualize the setup. Any thoughts or suggestions are welcome!

Update: I've began ordering the parts in for the setup, I'm looking to get a few of the switches up and running by next weekend and get a video together demonstrating the functions on GTA IV while we anxiously await ELS on Gta V. Stay tuned!

Below you'll see the 3d model of the plan for the "Deluxe" version of the console. This model shows the drawer hooks, this offers the option to hook the console on a desk drawer.

Hey man, I am on your track. I built a console out of wood, bought a toughbook, and have a 105" projector screen, but I never finished my console, then moved into an apartment, so I use it, but it is just plain wood. I would LOVE to have this console. I already have a steering wheel, but if you could sell the other part separately i will buy the first perfectly working one
