How to Defeat R* Updates (Retail & Steam)

Featured Replies

Before launching RPH you ""MUST"" disconnect from the internet ... this will force you into offline mode thus not allowing a connection to R* servers... this worked for me me ... i'm currently on ver 757 with RPH 0.41

hope this helps

Do you have mods folder ?

Just don't insult or demeaned big or small efforts because i know that you can't do it so calm down and just watch their awesome work

Respect Efforts

What I don't understand...: You can back-up your game with RPH... But if you need to remove your mods-folder, you can better just update the game, because you have to re-install your mods anyway, or do I see it wrong?

LOL - Yup. The easiest work around of all time!!  Worked for me. I'm actually still on RPH 38 and ver 678.

Only thing is, you have to be aware of the update ahead of time and unplug. I have the Steam version so it will update the game automatically when I launch RPH

Albo had a great video on how to keep the game from updating at all.

I actually did this but also unplugged just to be sure because I really don't have time to deal with any issues right now.

Anyway, good luck to everyone on update day!

you need not worry about the mod folder as you are not taking the update if you disconnect from the internet

i dont plan on taking the update as my game ver and rph ver are pretty stable ... you will have to update RPH and reinstall mods if you take the update

I unplug everytime i play as to avoid any update issues ... easiest way to avoid conflicts until the new RPH is out

I have the steam version, and any time the game updates I quickly cancel the update, then rename my GTA folder to something else and put my clean directory in there and that's what gets updated. It's useful also if I ever want to go online.

i also have a clean version of gta5 backed up to update as well for online usage

Ooooor you can use the RPH back-up feature, or use this tutorial:tongue:

Or just use my Backup utility which covers both LSPDFR & GTA5?

Is that an option? Yeah, I think so.

yes it is and you can do it those ways as well ... i only offered the simplest method for those who don't want to do back ups or are not really into messing with the files and\or mods or for those who just don't have the space for back ups etc etc

So I was playing unplugged for part of the day today but needed to go online to get Notepad ++ so  I could edit a handling line for my vehicle in police3.

I never signed on to Steam or launched RPH while I was getting Notepad++ and researching how to edit the handling.

I ended up doing the necessary modding, unplugged and tried out the game. It worked fine. I had to work for a few hours so I turned my PC off and handled my business.

A few hours later, with the PC still unplugged, I tried to launch the game again and got a Rockstar Server error. I've only been modding for a short time and am trying to figure out what happened! How was I able to play unplugged earlier but then couldn't play still unplugged later?

Is it possible that Rockstar or Steam put a cookie on my PC that won't allow the game to launch if it doesn't detect the update has been installed in a certain amount of time?

Very, very weird..

Probably a rookie mistake, but I ended up plugging in and updating RPH but need to get the version that just released a few hours ago.

You can only play the game for 72 hrs without internet/updating game! To continue playing after 72 hrs you need to turn back your clock on your computer! Not sure if this is necessary using RPH backup to play..

Love modding! What else can I say? :)

there is  no need to turn back the clock ... you prolly could do it that way (never tried it as i never had to) ... if you cant cant get into the game just log into SC ... chances are that your password has disappeared so you will need to log in for it to hold ... once logged in password should hold disconnect and you are good to go ... im on game patch 757 and online ver 1.34 RPH 0.41 and well past 72 hrs after the update and still playing offline as i dont plan on taking the update

Thanks to you both. I actually got my game back up and running with the new update. OPEN IV detected an out of date file and updated it for me and I was able to start the game.

I had the updates but for some reason, the game kept trying to point to version 678 until OPENIV fixed it. I'm still getting a GTA 5 launcher error whenever I exit the game but it doesn't keep me from playing so I'm good with it.

I have to say, in the time I've held off on updating, the new versions of my plug ins got so much better (Traffic Policer, Assorted Callouts, Code 3 Callouts and Secondary Callouts) but I couldn't get them because my RPH was old. I added Arrest Manager and wow, my game is 10x better.

OFC, whenever you are ready, you should update. It's worth it if you use any of the plugins above.
