[REL] Coastal Callouts Discussion Thread

I've just begun working on my first callouts pack: Coastal Callouts. Currently there isn't much going on at sea in LSPDFR, and I'm working to change that. This will be a callouts series focusing on marine patrols and incidents. I'm planning to eventually have enough to make a boat-based marine patrol fun and interesting, but the callouts will also be designed so that a land-based unit could respond to a dock, grab a boat (or maybe a helicopter or something else), and then head to the scene.

Callouts will include law enforcement and SAR missions, both in the ocean and on beaches, in ports, and around the terminal and docks.

For all you modders out there, if anybody's interested in collaborating, shoot me a PM. I have some ideas already for specific sub-functionality which could be tackled by individual contributors and would make development move much quicker.

If you have suggestions, please let me know! Again, this is very early in the process, I'm still scoping out good locations for callouts and brainstorming what to put in them. So, it's a good time to make your ideas heard!

UPDATE, Feb 8:

Coastal Callouts is now in Beta! For full details, see this post:

And, check out these first two Coastal Callouts episodes by @Darkmyre and @Albo1125

@PNWParksFan Now all someone has to do is make a Coast Gaurd semi truck unless there's already one on like Gta5mods.com

From the pictures I can find online, they don't generally use coast guard marked rigs to haul the boats when they do have to move them. Most likely they're not even government rigs, they're probably contracted.

Hey PNWParksFan is the 45ft RBM going to be released by its self or with the coastal call outs? Really looking forward to this mod keep up the good work!

When the mod is released, it will be released as one big mod. If people want to use the vehicles without the rest of the mod, that will probably be an option in the installer.

Just curious as i have no idea if this would even be possible but what about an option to maybe call ahead to the Coastguard station to say your coming back to base and want to put your boat onto a trailer. As you arrive another Coastguard member has backed the trailer into the water already and then as the player docks their boat the driver exits and the player can go about there business with the truck?.

While I appreciate the suggestion, I don't think I'll end up adding that. In reality it's quite uncommon for these larger boats to be transported on land. It's usually only done when they're being transported from the manufacturer to the station, or perhaps if they need particularly extensive maintenance or something like that. There's plenty of dock space to park the boat in when you're done with a normal patrol!

Is there going to be like a drug runner or human smuggler callout where the helicopters get flown in and a machine gunner In the back guns down there engine with a m249?

I have the link to this thread floating on my desktop for ages now. The topic started at March 28, 2016. That's over a year now since you started with the development and so I think it's a legitimate question if this will ever make it to the point of being released.

Yes. Its an insanely complex mod. I've been here since the 5th of March and it has grown a lot. And its still growing. And Parks has a full time job and a bunch of other responsibilities. These things take time.

I'm still working on the mod every single day for multiple hours, on top of my day job and other responsibilities. It's going to be released; it's not ready yet. I started messing around with ideas in March of 2016, but didn't start really focusing on development of Coastal Callouts until fall of last year. Of course I intend to publicly release it, I wouldn't be spending so much time on it otherwise. It's very frustrating how some people don't appreciate the amount of effort that goes into reverse engineering GTA to make these complicated features work. Each little thing takes time, and I don't like to release shit. I've spent the past 3 weeks just working on the configuration options, so that you'll be able to customize exactly what units respond where, with the ability to customize every aspect of the vehicles used in the mod. Two to five hours a day, on top of my day job. Could I have just left everything hard-coded so the game would crash if you didn't have the exact models installed and couldn't change them out if you wanted to play with models appropriate for a different country? Sure, it would have put me 3 weeks closer to release. Instead, when it is eventually released, you get a totally flexible configuration system that's robust and extensible. Same goes for every other feature and piece of content I've carefully created.

Honestly, I looked at your user profile, and all of your recent comments are you complaining about other people's mods not being good enough. It doesn't look like you've actually created any content for the community in years. Try making even a simple plugin yourself before you complain about other people's release schedule, let alone something as complex as this mod. What other mod incorporates a very detailed script, a dozen custom vehicles each with a custom seating layout and configuration to be used by the script, built-in map mods done properly through ymap files, custom peds, edited scenario files to actually spawn those peds and vehicles in the world realistically, and all the other stuff I'm working on? Certainly none that I see released on your profile.

This is already possible as part of the mod. I'm also trying to figure out a way to get the sniper to work from a helicopter, but by default that's not possible. Still researching workarounds. In boat pursuits, the suspects will give up if you shoot their engine enough times. You can shoot from a helicopter, or you can call a backup helicopter and they'll shoot at the engines too if the pursuit is set to aggressive.

If you close your eyes and eat a bowl of rice once you open your eyes the mod will be finished. Or you can understand that these kinds of mods are difficult to develop in a short amount of time. More time will mean better quality. If you wish to support the development of this mod and get early access join the parks benefactor team.

If that is the case, take the link off your desktop and support the mod by joining the benefactor program then you won't have to worry about when it will be released because you've got it right there to use. So stop complaining and giving Parks a hard time when he is putting so much effort into this mod and will get this released when he can. Thank you for proving me with my daily rant, please come again.

@GlencoeGEC @PNWParksFan I was in no way complainig, just asking a legitimate question and regarding my other comments in this forum, those weren't complaints either but bug reports and constructive criticism. But yeah, it's not the first time in this forum that people jump on me for not licking the boots of a modder. Am I supposed to say "it's awesome" when it's not? If so then I am truly at the wrong place! I don't see these kind of weird reactions in other forums.

No? Basic understanding of what it requires to make a mod this complex would be sufficient. There's a reason that AAA devs dont churn out franchise titles every 3rd month. Development takes a while. Modelling takes a while.

Also, choochoo all aboard the bandwagon!
