Fatal Police Shooting Sparks Unrest

Featured Replies

For those of you not residing in the United States, yes, this is still going on. And it will continue to go on for some time until people decide to use some common fucking sense rather than believe in what the media tells them, especially when they don't even know all of the facts. Anyways, on to the story.

ST. LOUIS (AP) — The police chief on Thursday unapologetically defended the fatal shooting of a black 18-year-old who was killed by two white officers in a confrontation that drew protesters and unrest back to the streets.

Protesters pledged to stand firm. Said the director of a group called the Organization for Black Struggle: "We will not go away."

Mansur Ball-Bey, who police said had a handgun, was shot as officers raided a home in a violence-plagued part of north St. Louis. Within an hour of Wednesday's shooting, more than 100 people converged on the scene, taunting officers and decrying the use of deadly force.

A vacant building and at least one car were torched, police said. Officers responded with tear gas and arrested at least nine people on charges of impeding traffic and resisting arrest.

The scene unfolded less than two weeks after violence marred the anniversary of the day Michael Brown was fatally wounded by a white officer in nearby Ferguson. His death launched the national Black Lives Matter movement.

St. Louis Police Chief Sam Dotson said the crowd-control tactics were justified because officers were being hit with bottles and bricks and protesters refused to clear out of the roadway.

My opinion: This entire thing is just retarded at this point. An incident happens where an officer ended up fatally shooting someone, and the media somehow finds a way to get race involved and make it seem like the person killed was some sort of hero or role model, and then these idiots continue with their "Black Lives Matter" bull shit. I'm sick and tired of hearing that statement, because not just black lives matter. People take for granted the safety the police provide them, and they don't realize that until the moment they need the police. During the Ferguson riots, someone starting shooting. Guess what happened? The same people that were shouting in the police officers faces, were the same people that those same officers led to cover while the shooting happened. Not a word was said by any of the idiots protesting. What a joke. I honestly take my clogged toilet more seriously than the protesting.

Just so that you all can get an idea of the idiots protesting, look at the first few minutes of this video, and notice how it's Americans versus Americans. Americans are fed up with the protesting of other dumber Americans. I'd honk my horn too. At around 11 minutes a car busts through the line and actually hits a few people.

i still dont understand how blocking a highway is protesting police brutality.

Apparently inconveniencing Americans that had nothing to do with the situation "proves a point" to the police. The logic in that, I don't understand so I couldn't tell ya.

It's like here in MA when Ferguson went down people blocked the Pike [I-90 for those who aren't from here] (either that or I-93) and stopped an ambulance from bringing someone who was critically wounded from an accident to a trauma center in Boston.  They had to divert to a different, less amazing trauma center.  Who knows how many lives they may have negatively affected by blocking that road- someone could have been going to the hospital to give birth.  It's stupid that they do this, absolutely immature.

Edited for people who have no idea what the Pike is & I cant spell

Okay, lets not forget that a 93 year old veteran was robbed TWICE in the area, I have no sympathy for these thugs who protest for no reason.

Also very good quote from yahoo: Let's imagine two different scenarios...

Scenario #1 - two white officers shoot a black man after raiding a house known for harboring criminals. The man first ran from the cops but then turned to shoot at them.

The results: Protesting and Rioting. The community sticks up for the criminal with quotes such as "he was a good boy", "he didn't have a gun", and "it's the cop's fault"

Scenario #2 - two black officers shoot a white man after raiding a house known for harboring criminals. The man first ran from the cops but then turned to shoot at them.

The results: No protests or riots. The community sticks up for the police with quotes such as "thanks for taking rid of that thug", "glad we don't have to worry about that house anymore", and "he got what he deserved"

NO ONE is going to take the black community serious until they stop standing up for these thugs!!! You don't deserve it!

The thing is, coloured people have a huge tendancy to pull out the "RACIST" card nowadays. Like, the other day, I was going down my mother's appartment after I came to visit her, and in the staircase I cross the path of two kids yelling like crazies. It wasn't the first time. I see the mom following up shortly after (she's of arabic origin) and tell her "You should watch your children, they are shouting, people live here". Her answer? "Shut up you fucking racist fucker". As if it was an excuse to get out of any situation.

Unfortunately this is a trend in the US, not just for racism but anything someone doesn't like. If people see something they don't like they will try to find something to accuse it of. I just read a story about a sorority in Alabama that had to take down their recruitment video because they were being called racist for having too many white girls in it. The video itself didn't have anything offensive, it just showed a bunch of girls having fun and doing college stuff but apparently since all but one girl was white in the entire 5 minute video they were called racists. Is it their fault they live in a predominately white state and go to a predominantly white school? Maybe they don't have a lot of black people who apply to their sorority, I know many black people like to go to historically black colleges and historically black fraternities/sororities so maybe they just didn't get many black applicants.

Something I have a big issue with is people who want everything to represent every race equally and I'm not talking in a legal sense or civil rights sense, I am talking strictly in a consumer type sense. If you are part of minority then, by nature, you are not going to be represented as much. If you go to a school where the majority of people are white then by nature the majority of the people who are part of certain organizations within that school are going to be white. Same thing goes for law enforcement. If you patrol a predominantly black neighborhood then the majority of stops you conduct will likely be on black people. Does that mean the officer is racist? No. The news often twists this aspect, they will say something like "the majority of people stopped in this neighborhood (a predominantly black neighborhood) were black". Well if the majority of people who live in that neighborhood are black then who do you expect will get stopped the most? If you looked at the last place I lived at in the states it is mostly white redneck people who are low-middle class. If you go look at the arrests page for the sheriff's office and look at the arrests you will see that most of the people arrested in my county are white people. Does this mean my sheriff's office is racist towards white people and targeting white people unfairly?

I believe wholeheartedly that all the races/sexes/everyone be treated equally and with respect.  However, this is ridiculous.  Instead of wasting your time standing on a highway wasting valuable resources, money, and personnel you could be going to city council/town meetings where you can demand (nicely) that the city explain what they're doing to combat this issue.  Or you could be calling your state representative/senator every week asking what they are doing to help prevent these killings from happening.  Or, even more unthinkable, schedule a meeting with the chief of police and talk to him/her about these issues and try to get what he/she is doing to combat these issues.  This is how change happens- not by standing on a highway....
