Why I Personally Think GTA V needs ELS (Or Something Similar)

Featured Replies

To start this off, I'm going to say that I understand a few people, albeit a while back, were discussing whether or not we needed ELS in GTA V. If I remember correctly, a few said they thought we did need it, and a few others said it wasn't necessary at all. Well, I'd like to talk about why I think ELS (or something similar) in GTA V would be useful, and what it would actually do.

To start off, light patterns. There are already multiple light patterns built into the police lightbars, but they seem to be cycled through at random. They can't be switched between. That's the first use an ELS type mod for GTA V would have, light pattern control. You'd be able to switch between each pattern independently, keep it on random, or even set up a custom light pattern. That would probably be achievable by using a .txt file added with the mod. You could set up which patterns go where, for how long, and possibly even the speed of the pattern.

The second thing an ELS system for GTA V would do is, as with the GTA IV mod, independent control of siren modes. Instead of having to switch the siren on to the default, then to yelp or what-have-you, you can just press one button to yelp the siren, release it, and it switches off. Same for any other siren mode.

The third and final thing an ELS type mod could do for GTA V is similar, if not completely the same, to another mod we already have on this very site. It's called "New LED Corona" http://www.lcpdfr.com/files/file/7715-new-led-corona-for-gta-v-updated-new-content/ , and basically it changes the brightness of emergency lights so that they're more visible, especially in the daytime. It also adds better reflections off of things like walls, making the lights look more realistic in general.

That's pretty much the end of what I had to say. What does everyone else think? Do those of you who think we don't need an ELS system for GTA V still maintain that, or do you think that the points I've raised here are valid?

Anyway, if you read this far, thanks for paying some attention to this. Hopefully I'm not repeating what anyone else has said.

I personally don't see a need for this to be integrated into GTA V. I'm perfectly fine with the stuff we already have in game. I know other people would die for something like this, but it's not somet

The reason it is needed is not because of light patterns, but to turn off sirens.

  • But also the switching between different siren tones. I.E yelp, high-low, etcetera.

I press E, it does the Wees and the Woos and looks damn nice doing it. I'm perfectly fine with that.

Hah, "the Wees and the Woos" is a pretty good description of the default stuff.

I'll agree with you that the stock emergency lights in GTA V look so much better than they did in GTA IV, especially the halogen rotators; those don't need to be changed at all. We'd really only be missing the ability to have the lights on independently (coming with LSPDFR) and working traffic advisors.

I wouldn't mind independent lights, i'd use em. I don't see the need for traffic advisors, though. Especially since the stock cars don't have them. Unless you mean the hazard lights.

Those amber directional lights on the backs of some emergency vehicles. Not really necessary, but if anyone wants to make realistic LAPD vehicles, they might want them.

That too. Can't forget that.

I don't think we need a full-fledged ELS like in GTA IV anymore.

A siren mod which would allow us to toggle the different siren tones separately and use the lights without sirens would be enough in my eyes.

It would be nice to see extras actually used as extras. Then you get to keep the variety offered by V's stock cars. Different/no lightbars, different/no rambars, etc.

If ELS is made for V, even the non-ELS cars will not bother using extras properly. Most of them will just be fuck-it-that'll do conversions of the ELS version like they are in IV.

You are using the WRONG right theme!

tlandonc2000,I had trouble reading that, but I think I understood it, a bit. P.S ELS is made by Lt.Caine with help from LMS.

I personally feel that GTA V does not fully need a ELS modification because the lighting itself is fine as it is and then it could also lead to game instability, however, I feel it would be well received throughout the community even if it only had the ability to change through lighting patterns that were introduced with the default game and the ability to toggle lighting patterns and perhaps in the future a method to use the default in game lights on modified vehicles and then allow the ELS abilities to work on those vehicles.

Yeah, that's basically what I think an ELS-like mod for GTA V should be, but of course the ability to yelp the siren manually, and improvements to the way the lights look/how they reflect or shine onto terrain, buildings, people, etcetera.

The reflections are to me sold with the ENB/Timecycle mods, have them, don't feel like it needs reflections.

Yelping manually would be cool too but can't you already do that in game?

Don't think so. I haven't played the game yet, (PC broken since the 11th of April :c) but I think you have to switch on the regular siren first then hold down the horn button to switch siren modes, which could be yelp or another siren sound.
