Should we rebuild the Empire State Building?

Featured Replies

The Empire State Building is the most famous sky scrapper in the world, but now in the 21st century, it is quickly being surpassed by many skyscrapers in America, and around the world, and one day, It will no longer be a magnificent piece of the New York Skyline. So, should someone tear it down, or rebuild a new one next to the old one, a new Empire State building that is bigger and better than the orginal? So it can keep up with the growing city skyline in America and across the world?

You do realize that any building in the United States could be attacked? Right?

  • Don't improve on a classic... That's like putting a Lamborgini engine in a Model T... You just don't do it...

That's just a major waste of money. Unless there's a valid reason for doing so. Even then, I doubt many would favor that. It's great the way it is. It does not need to be rebuilt or "improved"

Well IF it gains more recognition and publicity as one of the tallest buildings in the world again, it will gain tourist money and the money from building will be regained.

I don't agree with you.

The Empire State Building, although old, will always be a magnificent piece of architectural design, as it was built during the height of the recession and truly was a marvel engineering project at its time.

Sure it's not Burj Khalifa but it'll always stand out among architectural history, despite it's design (Pillars every 20 feet) being outdated to a more modern, robust core like modern skyrise buildings are today.

I believe most people, especially New Yorkers will always know the Empire State Building will be a marvelous addition to their skyline, as it's a building laced with history of the city.

A truly classic American photo.

No, losing the Twin Towers already killed the iconic NY skyline. There's no need to remove yet another landmark and kill it even more.

You relaize that the new one World Trade Center could be easily just as attacked

touching, but the problem is that in the future, I fear that people wont give it the appreciation it deserves due to it being overshadowed by super scrapers that I believe will one day infest they city

yes I am aware of that possibility

Uh, news flash. New York is already infested with skyscrapers. I highly doubt it will ever be "overshadowed".

Do you have anything to back up this statement? I haven't heard of any buildings being built in NYC that will be larger than the Empire State Building. (Other than One World Trade Center)

Yea lets blow it up and build it again. Because the last time we had some of the tallest buildings they ended up getting blown up by a ...

Seriously though. This is an absolute horrible idea. . . Yes let us invest more money to make america look pretty. It's worked so well before!!

Everything needs more lights.

there are several plans for building new sky scrapers in New York, several of which surpass the height of the Empire State Building
