Thank for your kind support.

Lets make change.

That's right How many times can one person be sorry for committing crimes.

(A bit off topic) This petition idea got me thinking that someone should create one to lower the age limit for being a cop from 21 to 18....

  • I'm for it. Unfortunately SOME people hear the word "felon" and immediately picture some guy with full body tats, who is a kiddie rapist, or murderer. There's a lot of crimes that you can commit that

Oh thank you so much, You don't know how much that meant to me.  Yes I am doing my best to reform felons. I feel that for every felon I help form crime can decrease. Again thank you again. Hopefully i

That depends on the department. A lot of departments I've looked at have a minimum age of 19, I believe NYSP is 20 to apply.

"Work and ideas get stolen, then you keep moving on doing your thing."

This is definitely a positive idea. Considering that a lot of felons are in on bullshit drug charges, something to help them after prison could potentially work to limit the damage associated with having a felony on record.

I agree with this system, some people will most likely try to abuse it, though.

Thank you. You see this program would also stop other issue a felon may have. For instance: If a person was convicted of controlled substances abuse, after he/she is required to stay clean for 5 years straight I highly doubt they could remember the drugs they used much less go back to that life. 5 years is a long time to stay clean and if they complete it you know they will stay clean.

if this bill was to get passed, with the list of the Types of Felony's being not able to apply being so small it concerns me.. Rapists would be able to join the Program if they only do it Once? Violent Felony's would be included?..

If Someone was to rob my Parents Liquor Store at Gun point, gets arrested and its his first offense, he would be able to end up getting a shot at being a cop if he wanted to later down the road?? (The Vibe im getting from this whole thing is that you want your Felony Gone so you can apply for a Police Department But if YOU can that means anyone who acts on a felony just once can do it too(Unless its murder))   or am i just missing some details here..

Also I'd be the Last Person to Judge you here as im not Perfect Either, but Having a ton of BB Guns myself i find it exploding and Releasing 3 BB's straight into someone's back a little hard to believe Why even pick the gun back up after you put it down and on top of that why did you feel the need to test it you obviously don't have to answer these questions as i really don't need to know someone else has already judged you so i Don't need to, and I Guess the Police that arrested had the same questions.

With all of these Police Involved shooting being the big thing on the news the LAST thing Police departments are going to want to do is Allow Felon's to Join the Force.. I Would hope that People who are Smart enough to be Cops, would be Smart enough to Stay away from getting a Felony no matter what it is, it is what it is for a reason.

Like i Said im not Judging you. Someone else already has (A Judge or Jury), You could be a cool guy. But You've made your bed and you gotta lay in it, Just like everyone else that was in your position before you..

I Would like to help out but I just cant get behind something with this many holes in it.. because i Do NOT support real Felons in any way what so ever..

HAVE A QUESTION OR A REQUEST? MESSAGE ME I'M HAPPY TO HELP

People who became felons, they had their chance to not commit the crime, wouldn't it be better if these 'poor' people had not committed the crimes?

People have the right to second chances if they wish to change themselves for the better, people make mistakes & no one is perfect, including yourself, no one here gets to decide or judge anyone based on passed indescretions  in the past, unless you have not made one mistake in your entire life, I know some pretty shitty people, but they are like that for a reason, so don't judge them, you don't know the first thing about their struggle.

I understand what you're saying, some deserve second chances and some don't, I know I'm not perfect nobody is, what ODonell here is doing is great, but like I said I'll only give second chances to people that will change and prove themselves that they deserve the second chance.

Сould someone please explain me what this is all about?

In russia a felon after doing time has his criminal record valid for a certain period. For the worst crime this period is ten years. After ten years this record means no more, and this person has nothing barring him from entering the government service or whatever else. Of course, people may treat him differently and, for example, may refuse to hire him just because of him being a criminal (but they have to make up a lawful excuse). Is that any different in America? What's the purpose of this bill?

It depends, some are not mature enough to handle the responsibility of an LEO at such a young age,

about a month ago a 23 yr old Halifax Regional Police Officer got wasted crashed his car & fled the scene on foot, other HRP Officers caught him after he proceeded to run from them, he came under public scrutiny after he was charged with impaired driving but no other charges & may get to keep his job.

Maturity is a HUGE thing in Policing & what I said proves.

Hello LCPDFR family, So I was thinking about petition and I came across an idea to start a petition that would help felons get back on track and become productive citizens. With this petition the federal government if willing can propose a bill called the F.R.B.( Felon reform bill). I was wondering if some of you police officer would help me out with signatures.

I know alot of you police officer have hearts, and know that there are many felons who so desperately want to change. I am one myself. I support the police each and every year. I am a supporter of the "fraternal order of police" I make my pledge every year. So I am now asking many of you officer to support me, and many other felons who are ready to make change and once again become productive citizens.

Thank You

O'Donnell

As Taylor Swift said (LOL), I do recall getting into some heated debates with you in the past. I agree with you that you can't hold someone down because of a crime they've committed, especially if they're clearly trying to turn their life around. Nobody's perfect, and I think people continuously forget that. Everybody makes mistakes, some bigger than others.

Just this morning I made the mistake of scraping my foot on the corner of my bed, like I've been doing for the past week now lol. Now when my friend comes over, I don't tell him and he scrapes his foot, but I remember not to scrape mine. The moral of the story here is that I learned from my mistake, and I'm now a better person than I was before. (hehe)

As Will said, it depends on the department. Here in Western Australia you can apply once you're 18. You can also legally purchase and consume alcohol at that age, too.

yeah, read up about it and it seems like here in NC the minimum age limit to take BLET (Basic Law Enforcement Training) is 20....so depts don't have control over that unless the Director of BLET changes the law.

Сould someone please explain me what this is all about?

The US is not like that right now -- a felony normally stays on your record for life (there are occasional exceptions, mostly involving being under 18 when you committed it), and it's generally legal for companies to require you to disclose past felony convictions and to automatically deny felons for being felons. In a few states, laws have been passed to require most employers to not ask about felony convictions until they've looked at the rest of your application (the idea is to give you a chance to show why you should be hired, as opposed to having them filtering out felons' applications without even looking at the rest of the application), but they're in the minority, and even there I think it's legal to officially not hire someone because they have a felony conviction (you don't need to make up another excuse). This petition seems to be about changing that.

Personally, the (highly legitimate, IMO) idea of a second chance aside, I'm really not sure how making it nearly impossible for a felon to find legitimate employment is supposed to discourage them from committing more crimes.

Well sir the government cant even prevent crime from occurring. Crime is much like racism you can calm it but you can't ever stop it.

If people feel that felons are incapable of becoming productive citizens in a productive society, why let them out? We would not let a lion out of the jungle into a city district of people would we? No. Also look at the inmates in prison who spent years of their life behind bars only for the government to find out that the persons never even committed the crime. Should the attorney prosecutor, the police officer who made the arrest, and the judge be placed behind bars? No fact is people make mistakes.

Read this on the news...seems like some states are starting programs like the one you mention above.

In Tennessee, ex-felons who have turned their lives around can now receive a certificate of employability, which gives businesses who hire such individuals protection from negligent hiring lawsuits

Let me get this straight, I hire a person to help him and I get sued because of that just for hiring an ex-criminal?!

From what i understood from it, if a felon is good they can receive the certificate that states that they are a "good person" and should be allowed to work almost anywhere with in reason.

The certification does not erase the felony still giving employers a chance to see it on record. Employers can then see it make up another excuse but really being refusing the potential employee for the felony. This program would ensure that the felony is expunged completely and not on public record. It also has many other benefits along with this.
