Teenager suiciding after being persecuted by extremely violent trolls

Featured Replies

"A teenager who was bullied by online trolls posted a heartbreaking video on YouTube before killing himself, an inquest heard.

Adam Smith, 19, who had learning difficulties, was bombarded with spiteful remarks and accused of plagiarism over a short story he put on a website.

In response to the vicious bullying, he posted a video on YouTube entitled ‘I’m sorry’ where he apologised for any misunderstanding.

But he was lambasted again by cruel users, who mocked him saying his speech problems were so bad it made them laugh.

Days later he was seen crying as he walked to a railway line near his home, where he was hit by a two-carriage train."

Opinions?

Personally I really think police departments should have a more consequent online police section for this kind of problems. They could trace the IP address and deal with the authors of those comments that are sometimes more hurtful than real words.

This is very tragic, but to be expected. Hate to be so blunt with it, but if you don't have tough skin the internet is not a good place for you to be. I've been told to kill myself, hang myself, "I'm outside your house", "I'm raping your mother"... Anything you can think of I've been told several times, some on this forum lol.

It's sad that things like this happen, but you can't take everything to heart. Be proud of who you are and what you've done, even if you've had some bad past experiences. Nobody's perfect, and people seem to forget that all the time. All you can do is your best, and live life to the fullest :).

It's sad to see this happen but don't take anything personally from someone on the internet. As said above, I've been called all sorts of things on the internet, but did I take any of them outside the screen to the real world? No, I didn't. I forget about them as they aren't important, actually lol.

You can't blame someone's suicide on other people. Jay is right, if you can handle it, just turn it off. It's up to you to decide how you want to interpret someone's words. I get hate all of the time on YouTube, it's quite normal.I won't go kill myself because of it, though. Yes, it's tragic, but people need to man up and defend themselves, or just brush it off. Besides, how can you defend yourself on the internet? There is nothing that can really hurt you.

The real sad thing in this story is that this poor kid apparently had no one IRL who matter for him more than internet morons. A friend, parents, someone close to him.
