  • That looks just like a real gun. Could not tell the difference myself.

  • The shooting is justified, also why did he pull out his gun when offciers told him to put his hands up? This boy shouldn't have been pointing the gun in the first place.

This exact situation happened at my middle school and the swat officer was cleared of any wrong doing. Everyone was outraged asking why didnt they shoot him in the arm or something, but if you know anything about Law Enforcement you are trained to shoot in the upper mass and to stop the threat not wound the threat and hope for the best. The parents of the student tried to sue but i dont think they won. Both of these events are tragic but unfortunately as a Law Enforcement officer you have to make life or death decisions in seconds and you dont have time to determine if the gun is real or if its even loaded.

Are the parents of this child and the community going to be outraged? Of course and that is understandable but you have to put yourself in the officers shoes. And anytime you bring any type of gun into a  public area you are just asking for this type of thing to happen so why did the kid do that in the first place???

Thanks.

Police Officers shouldn't have to tell the difference between BB guns and real guns, a good idea would be to NOT point the gun at the officer (whether real or fake), that's common sense. Whether you are a child or not.

Textbook good shoot, well within the bounds of the law.

After any Officer Involved Shooting, there will always be people wanting to know why the officer didn't just shoot him in the arm or something. The answer to that question is simple; because it just doesn't work.

When the human body goes into "fight or flight" mode during an adrenaline rush, pain is suppressed and the brain can cause your body to push through significant physical injury, including gun shots. Add in the possibility of someone being under the influence of a controlled substance or alcohol, and shooting someone in the arm or leg can literally have zero effect on the person. Not to mention the impractically of expecting even a good marksman to hit a small moving target like an arm or leg without putting undue risk to anyone in the background. Tasers are also ineffective for the same reason, although in this specific case it's been reported that the officer did not have a taser because the department cannot afford them.

Here's a good example in the video below. The suspect was shot 5 times, including TWICE in the head, once in the chest, once in the shoulder, and once in his wrist. Despite that, and even despite being shot twice in the head and once in the chest, the suspect not only survived, but still retained full body control and was coherent enough to get out of the car after being shot, but to comply with the officers commands after the shooting. The suspect wasn't laying there dead, or even screaming in pain, because his body suppressed the pain sensation and essentially ignored the injuries.

That is why police do not, and should not try to shoot people in the arms or legs, or anywhere other than center mass with continuous fire until the threat has been completely stopped.

Yep. Which is what you shouldn't do. Yet, it's done.

I'm confused, what exactly do you mean "which is what you shouldn't do"?

"I'm a marked man, so I'm getting out of here"

About an hour ago, things started to look like they were getting intense just by watching the news, Protesters started marching from the center of Public Square with a sit down blocking all directions of traffic, then they moved down to East 9th and then made their way onto the west Shoreway, the west Shoreway is a highway you would take to leave Downtown Cleveland to head to the Far West Side, when they entered the highway, there was moving traffic that had to stop for the protesters, this was not sanctioned as there were no police on the highway down the road to stop traffic, I had to step out for dinner when this happened(an hour ago) Just got back home and the protesters are now on West 3rd having crossed under the West Shoreway, passing by county jail, now they are back at Public Square. All of this is effecting rush hour traffic, a few minutes ago, the channel 19 cameraman walking along them was accidentally knocked over with all the commotion, so far, no violence has happened. I really hope it stays that way

We can't Stop here, This is Whelen Country.

This is all being blown out of proportion due to the colour of the child's skin? This is an outrageous thing! It was a totally justifiable shooting and would have happened to anyone of any colour, any age and any gender who do silly things like reach for their waistband after being giving a direct warning. It may have been dispatched wrong, but I do believe that the fault here lies on the child involved; they removed the cap to the air-pistol (which is an illegal thing to do, I believe. Correct me if I am wrong) and disobeyed direct orders. Also according to the 911 call, the child was disrupting and distressing people in the park by pointing his weapon at them prior to the police presence, which would also be deemed as a dangerous/proceed with caution subject to begin with.

I think the media needs to reevaluate how the report on things and stop bringing in race or referencing Ferguson. Unlike Ferguson, this is a clear cut justifiable shooting.

That looks just like a real gun. Could not tell the difference myself.

Everybody thinks that this is race-related... It doesn't matter if you are black or white, if you pull this out of your waistband, in front of a cop, you'll be shot. Period.

Still looks like a lawful shoot.

As soon as the officers arrive they order him to show his hands, instead he reaches into his waistband and pulls the gun out. That's lawful self defense on the officer's part all day long.
