Just ignore them. When people say that i won't be able to become a US Marine or a police officer i just walk away.

Anyway, don't let others bring down your hopes. And here's a quote that I've always like: "If nobody laughs at your dreams, they aren't big enough!"

I wouldn't pay too much attention to these people. Your thoughts and emotions trigger actions and results, not theirs. If these people talk down to you about what you aspire to do, you need to prove them wrong.

Hey bud, I do navy jrotc and im very close with my senior instructor who is a 25 year retired Commander in the US Navy, and flew helicopters (Sea King's, and later Seahawks) for the majority of his career, and now his son is currently flying for the US Navy a Growler to be exact. and I've had the opportunity to meet many real military aviators at airshows & jrotc events, as well as my best friend an AFROTC cadet in college working to become a fighter pilot

After being around him so much he (as well as my other friends who are currently going military aviation) have rubbed off on me, after wanting to be an infantryman (like some military guys in my family) since my childhood I feel that aviation may be a path better suited for me, I tell you this to share with you all they have shared with me.

FIRST:

Know what your getting yourself into, do SERIOUS research on being a pilot in the military, while it may look cool in movies it may be FAR different than you expect it to be in real world aviation.

SECOND:

DON'T EVER think your personal interests will be judged when trying to go into the military, HOWEVER, do know that you WILL be judged based on physical fitness, leadership abilities and gpa in college. And in all honesty the real world military doesn't give a shit if you've wanted to do the job for 5 minutes, or your entire life, if you cannot meet THEIR standards you WILL NOT be a pilot.

THIRD:

NEVER let anything anyone says crush your dreams, if its something you TRULY WANT, take a technical major in college (they look highly upon that) and do a college ROTC program if able. Get yourself into VERY GOOD physical condition, lift weights, run, and do core exercises.

As US citizens we are blessed with the opportunity to dream, and dream away there's nothing wrong with it. But when it comes time to prepare for an actual possible career in military aviation, it is sink or swim, either you are the man for the job or not, there is no "participation trophy" if you can't make it or can't take it, you will not be a pilot

I'm sure some active duty guys on the forum can speak on it better than me & please correct me if I'm wrong at all

But I wish you the best of luck, pm me if you need any other help

Nice quote man, also you're in ROTC, awesome so am I, don't see too many of those here in the community. Also i wanna add to this those people who are saying that let's see their reaction when you really do become a experienced fighter pilot, I believe you can do it. ;-)

"I'm a marked man, so I'm getting out of here"

I've always wanted to be a pilot. Just the thought of being up in the air, being able to see for miles and miles, I think it's truly amazing.

When you have a wish or a dream, there's always, ALWAYS going to be someone who thinks it's stupid. A lot of the time, those people are ones who want to accomplish a dream, just like you, but they think they have absolutely no potential to achieve that dream. So, they decide that, instead of hurting themselves over it, they try to inflict their pain onto someone else. This is the cause of a lot of bullying nowadays, too. People do not think they are good enough, and have no self confidence, therefore think they cannot achieve and want to make others feel what they are feeling, or try to take the weight off their shoulders. Just don't worry about those guys. In fact, you can encourage them, or ask for their wish. You can talk to them for a little bit, or just ignore them completely.

Remember, don't be afraid. Don't be worried about something because some other loser decided it was going to be funny to pick on you.

As Mindy always said,

No need to be a dick to him you guys. And man, screw them! They don't say where and how YOUR life goes. Prove em wrong my friend. We all have some weird in us! That's what makes a vast majority of us different. Like Kurt Cobain said, " They laugh at me because I'm different, But I laugh at them because they're all the same".

Actually being a pilot is looked at as being kick-ass. Take that from a Security Forces guy. We're looked down upon by almost everybody in every branch.....  But it is extremely hard to get into. The excellent physical fitness, perfect eye sight, college degree (for vast majority), rank of officer, etc. It's competitive and exclusive. That's why you're "cool" if you're a fighter pilot.

But a word of advice, if you're insecure about your likes, don't go into the military. And please don't let those be known in basic training (Protip)

Of course you could do this instead:

Listen Dude believe in your heart that you can do it and its already done. If you are truly dedicated it shall come true. I am a felon and my dream of being a police officer has been slightly affected. Notice I said "slighty affected" I believe in my heart of hearts I can still be accomplished. So far in my life I have never met an obstacle that I set out to do and haven't accomplished yet.  I still believe It will be done, and its important for you do believe this as well. Use their negative opinions to your advantage let it give you the strength to strive for it.

Good luck buddy you can do it. :)

That said: Don't become *too* invested in one single career field, no matter the career field. Sometimes it just doesn't work out the way you wanted it to; this can happen on either side (you might get your dream job and realize it's missing the "dream" aspect, or you might get some bad luck and not be able to do the job). If you're too wrapped up in a job as the only thing you'd ever be willing to do, either of those can be a huge problem. For instance, I'd love to be a pilot, but have a medical condition that means I cannot pass a flight physical. If I were determined to be a pilot no matter what, then that would be something I wouldn't really be able to recover from; it's important to realize that even if your chosen field doesn't work out for whatever reason, there are still awesome things you can do.

Fitness can be arranged, Eyesight can be arranged aswell, education i still don't know which field would be best, lastly i'm scared of the centrifuge the most, mainly cause if you don't pass that you're done.

Last but not least they flat out said that they knew why i wanted to be a fighter pilot which is to bomb the middle east apparently, and called me a fucking infidel after class like really.
