treyjames reacted to drdetroit in Obama at the national prayer breakfastNo, not a Christian society per-se, this country was establish and built on the tenants of Christianity, a society built on the notion of Judeo/Christian ideals.
ISIS is doing this NOW...not 1000 years ago, there is no comparison in my mind. Christianity was trying to stop the Muslims then, from doing what they are doing right now.
Have you heard Barry talk like that about Muslim or Islam? No you haven't because he bows to every Muslim leader he meets, and will not even call a spade a spade...a spade is a man caused disaster. He had to go way back 1000 years to make this stupid comparison.
Anyhow, whatever. All I can do is pray that good overcomes evil.
Off topic? This is about why Obama said what he said, and I say he and his top advisers (ie Vallery Jarret) are Muslims. This is why he vilified Christians at a Christian prayer meeting and tried so hard to make a moral equivalency by digging down 1000-years, misstating the facts of the crusades to boot! How do you extricate the two?
-
treyjames reacted to drdetroit in Obama at the national prayer breakfastBarry stinks, and is a Muslim. To bring up the crusades as a moral equivalency to the horrific atrocities being done in the name of Islam RIGHT NOW is disgusting and wrong...and at a Christian prayer meeting. The crusades which started 1000 years ago...and the reformation was 500 years ago, was in reaction to the Muslim hoards that were trying to eradicate anything that was non-Muslim.
Barry Sotoro (aka BO) is un-American, and a the most hateful man we've seen in the White House since Johnson. What a friggin' slap in the face to every Christians in the world and I'm embarrassed for all Americans.
Good day,
DrDetroit
With all due respect, learn your history pal. You obviously know nothing of the history of the crusade if you say "killing innocent people...". You embarrass yourself with such glib and thoughtless remarks

I think that the U.S. should recall its troops from the Middle East and leave them to kill each other. Kind of like we did with Africa.

treyjames reacted to Cyan in Anti-Islam Marches In GermanyTo anyone who says Islam is not a harsh religion, try reading the Quran. It becomes a lot harder to defend once you've read the text. I've you've not read the Quran, try reading what it has to say about violence.
You cannot use the intepretation defense that you can do in Christianity, for the fact that you are discouraged in Islam to make your own intepretations and just read the text verbatim and listen to scholars.
I'm not defending Christianity, and I quite think that all religion is a problem, but I honestly don't think we should be encouraging any third-world views of the world.
Edit: I should probably mention, I am not against anything which doesn't hurt someone, or encourages people to hurt someone.
-
treyjames reacted to DivineHustle in Anti-Islam Marches In GermanyWell first off I don't appreciate you calling my opinion bull shit. Secondly, can you provide and sources or quotes from the bible commanding Christians to persecute or murder those who GO AGAINST IT'S TEACHINGS? I don't care about anything else. My point here is that the Qu'ran commands Muslims to murder non-believers. The bible does not. Everything else I'm not here to debate about.
You hold your opinion high yet you still provide no strong defense? I'm still waiting for you to provide a valid defense for Islam.

Being born in America does mean that you were native born. Just because we aren't all native Americans doesn't mean that we aren't native born. We were born here, so that makes us Americans. It's a political ideology that needs to be fixed, illegal immigrants flood America and have children so that they are native born citizens.
Hate to put it in such blunt terms, but we Americans don't care about their situation. We aren't going to economically harm ourselves to aid in a mass of illegal immigrants flooding our country, just to commit crime and expect to live for free. If you want to come into America, do it the right way. The majority of Americans support legal immigration. We don't act like we're going to be flooded by Mexicans, because we ARE being flooded by Mexicans. Not only Mexicans, but there are 12+ million illegals in the United States as of 2012. Not sure if this has changed, but that's a lot of people. If they aren't educated enough to immigrate into the United States legally, then that's their problem. We aren't going to hold peoples hands.
How do you think Canada would respond to millions of Americans running across their border demanding free stuff and committing crime?
-
treyjames reacted to Lee10 in Executive Action On Immigration, United StatesIf I could like your post ten times I would, this is exactly why I'am against illegal immigration, you know someone called me a racist because I was against it. Listen we just don't have enough room for them this is going to overpopulate the United States and giving us more people than we need, and what's Obama doing about it, nothing "oh let's just let them live here, it'll be fine" I worry about this because now, am I ever going to get a job as a computer scientist now that we have all these immigrants?

Personally, like most things, I believe the determination should be based on the circumstances.
In a case of a diagnosed and medically proven illness that reasonable medical science cannot cure, then I don't see any problem with someone chosing to end their life before they endure pain and suffering beyond belief.
In a case of "my girlfriend / boyfriend broke up with me" or "I hate my parents, they ruin everything", or other such "life isn't worth living for" mentality, I think they should be stopped and treated and time will make them realize how idiotic that feeling is.
Legally speaking, suicide and assisted suicide is currently illegal in the US because the judicial system assumes that someone who has made the decision to end their own life is not mentally competent to be making such a decision. They courts basically have ruled that a suicidal person has a mental health issue that makes them incompetent and should be treated.

treyjames reacted to Hastings in Russian aggression continues to riseDo you have a desire to die somewhere in the Eastern Europe fighting for a small, poor, f*cked-up piece of land that really nobody cares about? It ain't even Nam or Korea. And now, when Republicans rise to power, they might help Ukraine with their war against terrorists, and that actually matters.
Isn't this a joke? I think so since no reliable sources are found

-
treyjames reacted to johnclark1102 in American Gun ControlI didn't take anything out of context. You proposed that countries where citizens cannot buy guns as easily as the United States have lower crime rates. That statement is untrue, because the UK is an example of a country where citizens cannot buy guns as easily as the United States, and yet has a higher crime rate.
Again, you said,
While you did not specifically mention the UK, the UK fits the description of a country where a citizen can't buy a gun so easily, which is exactly what you asked for.
Regardless of country comparisons, a firearm itself is only a very small part of the problem related to acts of "gun violence" and other crimes. The bigger factors are cultural and moral values, and social and economic factors.
-
treyjames reacted to johnclark1102 in American Gun ControlNo, guns are not allowed in the places where mass shootings have occurred. That's the point we've all been trying to make.
Schools are gun free zones, and no one is allowed to carry a firearm there. So yes, it is always the police that manage to control the suspect and not a civilian because the good, law abiding citizens who COULD have stopped a tragedy are not allowed to have their firearms.
There are several incidents of good, law abiding citizens using their lawfully concealed weapons to save lives in this country, but it doesn't usually make the news because the only person to be hurt or killed is the criminal.
-
treyjames reacted to johnclark1102 in American Gun ControlOh I see. That's funny because you originally said, "please tell me why in other countries where a simple citizen can't buy a gun so easily the crime rate isn't higher, and maybe even lower than the US for the same population mass?"
I did just that. The UK is exactly what you asked for, another country where a simple citizen can't buy a gun so easily. But because the statistics for that country disagree with your opinion, you now choose to dismiss those statistics? Ok.
As for the France vs US comparison, I'm curious how credible the sources for those numbers are, since the website indicates that some of the numbers are polls of people's opinions.
If the statistics related to violence are in fact recorded statistics, then I'm curious about the differences between how France and the US enforce their laws and punish criminals. I personally believe the US is far too lenient on criminals and if we increased enforcement with more harsh penalties, we would see a drop in crime rates.
Either way, the comparison between France and the US does not prove your point that countries with more gun restrictions have less crime, because a direct correlation cannot be made consistently when you take into account that some countries with more gun restrictions actually do have more crime. It only goes to show that there are other factors that influence crime, such as a society's moral values, criminal justice, and social and economic policies that also influence crime. This is the point that many supporters of the second amendment are trying to make, so in a way, you are helping to prove that it is not just guns that are a problem.
