A racist murderer convicted of first-degree murder tells judge he doesn't want a black person defending him.

Thoughts?

His funeral. If he's refused a perfectly good defense lawyer on the grounds of some racist beliefs and ends up without one (or a worse one), he is pretty much cooked.

I think it's stupid to judge someone of something that they can't control, such as race or nationality. I couldn't control that I was born Black, or that I was born in the United States. So what gives you the right to judge me for it? I'm unsure of whether or not this quote already exists, but I've created one for this type of situation.

"Racism is stupidity at it's finest."

I don't see how this makes him a jackass? yes racism is wrong but he was raised to be that way, no ones fault but his parents and or peers, I don't see how this is even news worthy? this shit happens daily..

It makes him a jackass, because he should be mature and educated enough to realize and understand that what he's been raised on is wrong. I was raised on sexism. I went to school, got an education, and learned that discrimination against men and women is wrong. What this man is showing to the world, is that he hasn't learned to think, and that he has no common sense. So in my opinion, yes it is his fault for being racist, AND the fault goes to whoever raised him. Just because you're raised a certain way, doesn't mean you'll always be that way. Take Adolf Hitler for example. He wasn't raised as an Anti-Semitic. In fact, he had family that were Jewish themselves!

The point I'm trying to make here, is that I believe he should be held accountable for his racist ideals.

You do realize assuming this guy is in his 40's, this was acceptable back then & no one got nearly as butt hurt as they do now on someone elses beliefs?  those are his beliefs, which he is entitled to, I'm not sticking up for him, clearly he is not an educated man, but he is honest, i'll take an honest man over someone who enjoys being dictated to anyday.

He is defiantly a RACIST MURDERER. If he will NOT accept a black defense lawyer, then he's 1( stupid  2(racist  3( also a murderer.

Typical LCPD:FR & LSPD:FR Player. REALISM!  Plays G.T.A IV, G.T.A V, ProjectCARS, CS:GO (Sometimes.), EmergeNYC (It's good, but very early alpha. Only has Firefighter gameplay. Will have Police & EMS too! Can't wait.), Red Orchestra 2/Rising Storm, Rising Storm 2, and more. Steam is: thebuilderman (shhh, I was 11.) (Nickname is GamerHackTV)

Yes, but there are others that were raised under the exact same circumstances that this man was, and they aren't racist. Almost an entire generation of White Americans were raised on severe racism, and they've changed their ways and came to the conclusion that racism was wrong.

Again, my point here is this man has the option to stop being racist. The fact that he hasn't chosen that option, just shows his true character.

If he was in fact frozen (like, cryogenically preserved) back in the 1950s, and thawed out now, maybe. Otherwise, no, he's an utter asshole, the fact that it was acceptable is a bad thing, and the notion that someone in his forties is "set in his ways" is frankly ridiculous.

While 1) and 2) make sense, I'm curious how not accepting a black attorney makes him a murderer.

I'm not sure where this fool is getting his information but he the man did not die thus he is not a murderer and he has definitely not been convicted because this hasn't even gone to trial! Furthermore everyone is just jumping to conclusions just like another case i wont mention. I live in the area and there was no indication that the victim and suspect knew each other but who knows why he stabbed him. But the victim appears to be of the same race so this wasn't racially motivated.

On another note an armed citizen finally did something good this time.

Psychology and sociology  has proven it, unfortunately. While yes, SOME change there ways, a lot still do not. We are a product of our agents of socialization. Which, for the majority of us are our parents, friends, teachers, etc. And like he pointed out, when he was raised it was socially acceptable to be a racist. If your force-fed a belief for 20 years of your life, it's hard to change it. And many do not. My grandfather was a racist. Still was when he died, but he never changed. Just "hid" it. Plus, down in the southern US, racism runs RAMPANT still.

Not the first one and it won't be the last one.

Racism is something we always have 2 deal with. From BOTH sides that is.

We can dream about ONE Nation all we want but i don't see it happen. Racism will always be around. Well maybe we can get rid of it when we make contact with Aliens..but then again..racism would prolly carry over but insteed of hatin' on black & white we would be hatin on Green n' Grey
