The Mind-Boggling Classic Cop Car Thread

Awesome, when did you join NYPD

NYPD Police Station Precinct 18, Midtown North, New York City (June 1981). Pretty sure the St. Regis is an undercover car

Those R Bodies were slow, underpowered, and had a terrible fuel economy and plenty of quality issues . Police departments that purchased them when they came out didn't wait too long to replace and get rid of them. Shame about the issues, they were some sharp looking cars...

1989 and yes the st.regis is an under cover car

At this point I believe that the one with the green/black/white livery is just for show. All of the new Tauruses that I've seen on the streets have retained the white and blue decal livery. Perhaps one day it will be widespread once more. :)

You are correct that was a comemorative car

That's pretty awesome, Gatekeeper. I think that the HWY cars got the larger engine/carburetor package, but I'm not sure.

Yup and they got the heavy duty suspension the patrol units were actually V6's the highway cars were V8's and as i said before some unmarked cars had the highway package but they were far and few in between

AFAIK taxis were widely used by Anticrime, two plainclothes cops in a cab - one as a driver, another as a passenger on the rear seat and it was almost impossible to tell they are po-leece

I highly recommend to watch BBC Four documentary "Nightmare in the City that never sleeps". There's a plenty of shots from '70s with A-C Officers who worked in 28PCT in a taxi + their recollections from that time. Great stuff and very informative.

Side note from the classic cop section, That blue car to the far right, my best friend owns that same car (just not police of course). It's probably an Austin/Morris/MG. They used the same cars and changed a little bit and changed the badges. His is a 1964 MG 1100. Here's a pic of our cars when we took a cruise this summer. Also, earlier there was a Philadelphia Falcon, probably a 61 or 62. I own the 1962 Falcon on the far right.

Anyway, back to cops.

What are the first two cars from the left? The second one resembles to a 1970's Celica.

So much awesomeness in this picture. I don't remember seeing a variation of the Land Rover with that front end before.

@Flash, I will check that documentary out when I have a chance!

We can't Stop here, This is Whelen Country.

Do you happen to know why the light is positioned off to one side? I'm curious.

Not really. I'd wish to know as well. Maybe there's something practical in there, maybe it's just for the looks. There isn't a whole lot info avalible.

Well, the second one looks like Rover P6B

I'm not sure about the first from the left, but it reminds an unmarked Morris Marina...

By the way, those Range Rovers were quite nice!

Cool lightbar, isn't it?

Indeed it is.

Please tell me they are still used in Finland. Our police had a couple of lovely American cars in highway patrol, but now they're scrapped, I guess/

Seems like this one had a better fate than the car scapper.

Found this news report from 1985 about some clashes in Washington DC between Ku Klux Klan, left wing groups and police. I suspect that the footage might be a bit older due to the age of the cars but in any case it's just mere speculation.

There can be spotted a DC Metro Police Chevy Malibu and many Plymouth Volares and Plymouth Furys. There are some curious mopeds officers drive as well.

Those UK police bikes look very 'different', Shekure.

Hey guys would you have any classic Jersey City Police (NJ) cars in your archives/favourite links? I'm curious, I'd really like to make a classic livery set.

I like what I'm seeing. Cheers.
