Federal Signal SS2000 Rumbler

Featured Replies

Hi,

This is my work in progress mod for the SS2000. I know there are quite a few SS2000s with Rumblers but this is my first siren mod and I think it's going pretty well.

So, After browsing YouTube for many NYPD clips I managed to compile the wail and warning tones out of video clips.

Since there are hardly any clean wail+rumbler clips available that are not distorted, I decided to make my own rumbler for the wail tone. I used Audacity to duplicate and lower the frequency of the tone to try and match a few source clips from YouTube.

The Two-Tone Ambulance Warning Siren and Airhorn are not made by me and are from a different SS2000 Pack (This will change later)

So here is the preview:

Here is a comparison:

I am also planning to add the rumbler effect to the two-tone ambulance warning tone and also change the airhorn.

I think the picture i posted of truck 5 is the most recent of truck 5 because of the blue in the rear & here is a video of it.

  • I Updated the original post with a new horns.ivaud. Give me your feedback on the updated sirens. I've only got the airhorn tone to do now   Edit: How does the airhorn sound here: http://youtu.be/2c

This is pretty good; the yelp and priority tones are fantastic and sound just like the real thing. The wail tone could use some work though - it doesn't sound quite right. [it seems as if the NYPD likes to use the manual wail tone with rumbler in my neighborhood when passing through intersections.]

For demonstration's sake, here's a clip of what the wail sounds like.

Agreed. Can you get the rumbler to go underneath the air horn? Try this video for reference:

Start at around :58 for the horn, the rumbler tone underneath it starts a couple of seconds later.

Would you know why some NYPD vehicles have blue on the front right of the vehicle?

Would you know why some NYPD vehicles have blue on the front right of the vehicle?

Assuming that you're referring to lighting, I've never seen an NYPD vehicle with forward-facing blues. Rear facing blues seem to be on the back right and back left of the Vision SL/SLR, or mounted on the parcel-shelf area. New York State's laws, regarding vehicle lighting, permits red and white lighting for just about all authorized emergency vehicles. Blue lights are reserved for volunteer firefighters, but they can be affixed on any authorized emergency vehicle so long that they are rear-facing.

2. Red lights and certain whitlit.gif. One or more red or combination red and white lights, or one white light which must be a revolving, rotating, flashing, oscillating or constantly moving light, may be affixed to an authorized emergency vehicle, and such lights may be displayed on an authorized emergency vehicle when such vehicle is engaged in an emergency operation, and upon a fire vehicle while returning from an alarm of fire or other emergency.

2. In addition to the red and white lights authorized to be displayed pursuant to paragraph two of this subdivision, one or more blue lights or combination blue and red lights or combination blue, red and white lights may be affixed to a police vehicle, fire vehicle, ambulance, emergency ambulance service vehicle, and county emergency medical services vehicle provided that such blue light or lights shall be displayed on a police vehicle, fire vehicle, ambulance, emergency ambulance service vehicle, and county emergency medical services vehicle for rear projection only.

Hope that helps! :)

I believe he is talking about in the second video, where if you look closely, the impala has a forward facing blue in the headlight.

Thanks for pointing that out; I didn't view any of the videos in the original post.

That is odd for sure; it goes against NYS law and again, I've never seen an NYPD RMP with a forward-facing blue light. I've seen plenty of Impalas with at least one headlight bulb burned out, but that's about it.

I've seen two of those large, Mack ESU trucks in person before and none of them had a blue light up front like the one in the photo; that's different. That looks to be an older truck though, judging by the lightbar and the Federal Signal mechanical siren mounted on the bumper [not that the age of the truck would shed any light onto the question at hand though].

Here's a photo that I found of an older ESU truck with two red lights on the front bumper mounted in a similar fashion.

RageDev, how did you get your rotators to acutally rotate?

You set the config to rota , instead of leds for prml. Vehicle must be under police if I am not mistaken. Also this is only w/v8, no previous versions of els feature properly rotating lights.

Doesn't sound like in the video demonstration for me.
1. It's more quiet, even the engine of my car is louder.
2. The wail (is it called like this? idk) is without the rumbler (audio I recorded:)

Or do I need ELS for it to work better?

Neither works with ELS for me. Like I said, every tone is with rumbler, except the "main" tone.
