Russian troops in Crimea

Featured Replies

Ukraine was getting out of line. Russia responded by showing Ukraine who has the bigger guns on their side of EU. Russia wanted to end it peacefully and return things to normal. How is Russia "making some stupid moves"?

How that's Russia's business? People of Ukraine became tired with an ex-convict, who was supported by Russia and became the president, who stole an awful lot of money, who has golden coins in his mansion with his face there, and now, when this moron fled the country, Russia is afraid the next Ukrainian leader won't be so obedient, so they try to force Ukraine to stop it. If you say that's right you either support thieves in the government or just don't care.

  • No, you're wrong. Only in Crimea there are more Russians than Ukrainians and there are very few Ukrainians who support Russian invasion and ripping their country apart.    BTW, The Russian Federatio

I know of the old leader being a prick and how and why the Ukrainian people don't support him, but I'm in no way trying to defend Russia's actions. All that I was saying was that Russia didn't want revolutionists to take control of Ukraine because of their thoughts for the past leader. Henceforth why they're attempting to take control of the situation in order to end this whole thing.

If the people of the country I don't even live in want to lash out at the current government, who am I to judge what they do? Again, I was attempting to tell the situation from Russia's perspective, not mine.

^ 1938 version, amirite? All we need now is a British diplomat to head over to Russia and sign some kind of treaty, then we're all set for World War III.

Also, I wanted to post this:

History likes to repeat itself :/

As I said on your status, the US will have to intervene (thus starting a battle, p) as they made a promise to protect Ukraine from invasion to get them to give up their nukes (of which there were 2,300 I think). If the US decides to not do anything, they'll have trouble getting other countries to give up their nukes in the future. A similar event also forced Britain into going to war in the WWII, with consequences still present today. Basically what I'm trying to say is we're all f*cked.

The US isn't ruler of the world... Just some presidential fucker who's president of a country, not Earth. Also, this story is about Ukraine and Russia, Not the oh so great "muricuhh" who have proved to fail in previous wars, Murcland shouldn't do anything.

How do you think this is all gonna end? Maybe Putin just stops being such a dick and leaves Ukraine alone? Maybe the whole Earth goes Chernobyl mode after an apocalyptic World War?

Oh, I'm not praising America. And no, 'Murcland' shouldn't intervene, but they probably will, as like I said they are obliged to help Ukraine. So that's where the US comes in. In a couple of months this story might not be just about Ukraine and Russia.

You never know :P

Problem?

The United States is indeed involved due to our history with Russia and the current sanctions the U.S. is looking to put in place against Russia. So stop the backseat moderating. The U.S. unfortunately, is nicknamed the world police because we get involved in conflicts in Europe. Primarily because we tried being an isolationist country, and that got us attacked by a foreign nation anyway. The European nations of France and England were severely weakened by World War I and despite being members of the League of Nations, were unable or unwilling to stop Germany from wreaking political havok, and eventually waging war during the 1930's and 1940's. The U.S. had the manpower, and the production resources to do it. So now it seems as though now we are a top member of NATO and one of the premier heavyweights in the United Nations because of it. We are one of the only countries with enough resources to try and quell global conflicts before they get out of control. It's either that, or the U.N would have let people like Kimg Jong Il and Mahmoud Ahmadinejad (and even though those two people are no longer in power, equally bad people have replaced them) do whatever they wanted with their nuclear program and anti-western brainwashing, or let a private contract para-military group handle the problems. And letting a private contract army have world influence could be extremely dangerous. The United States is by no means perfect, but we share the same morals as our western European neighbors across the pond, and stand as a beacon of freedom and democracy.

I'd stop talking about war track records if I were you, too. Every nation has a win-loss record that's less than perfect, including Russia who had their own version of Vietnam when they tried to invade Afghanistan. Remind me, how fast did most areas of the Netherlands get rolled by the Germans in the 1940? Days? Weeks?

You're the person who's gotten most off-topic here. If you have a negative U.S. view, that's fine. You have a right to that opinion. Just keep it to yourself unless you want to cause problems on an otherwise civilized forum board.

That does seem to be quiet plausible really. Taking the Crimean Peninsula would also give the Russians easier access to the Black Sea.

I herd that Canada was thinking about getting involved in this.

Yup, any big country in NATO will likely be involved in this in one way or another, even if it's financial or arms support. The U.S. just voted to give Ukraine 11 billion dollars, and if it comes to fighting, I'd imagine the U.S.'s next step would be to give them weapons and vehicles while other countries (like Canada as an example) gives them more money and weapons. If it gets really extreme, boots may be put on the ground. I sincerely hope it doesn't come to that. I'd like our country to be friendly with Russia, I really would. But Putin's territorial aggression isn't making that easy. As said above, history is repeating itself. I can only hope that the U.N. and NATO put the boots to this issue fast, before it gets out of hand. I will say this though; if Russia by itself pisses off more countries than just the U.S. enough to take up arms, they're going to lose. They can't fight everyone.

I find it extremely disturbing that at the Paralympics (being held in Sochi, Russia) the Russian team came out to a song called Goodbye to America or something along those lines.  I understand that both countries are enemies but doing something like that at such a major event is worrying.
