Police related trailer analysis

WARNING - 1280x720 SCREENS - DIAL UP USERS BEWARE!

Here are a few screenshots, 8 to be precise, that I've taken from the trailer to give us a little insight into what we can expect in terms of police related stuff.

This one shows us the front of the Vapid Cruiser and from what I can see, it resembles a Crown Victoria slightly, but looks almost identical to the default Vapid Cruiser in GTA IV.

A close up look at the Vapid Cruiser from the front, you can see how it has a unique license plate and a cop inside.

Looks like the decals on the cop cars will be more accurate, unlike the cars in GTA:SA.

"Obey and Survive" (I love it) replaces "Protect and Serve", seemingly the same font as real LAPD cruisers for the "POLICE" markings.

Similar decals to the LAPD again, this time with the Emergency Call 911 sticker.

Again, the unique plate and vapid badging. Looks identical to the rear of GTA IV's offering, though.

"Don't be expecting anything special with the emergency lighting" is what this picture conveys to me. Still, it is day time and who knows what the lights will be like at night? Also, if we do indeed have Venturas and/or Fierro as well, there is a chance those cities could have their own cars and set up.

I've cropped this one a little to zoom in on the cops themselves, they look well equipped like their GTA IV counterparts and it also looks like they have batons this time around (or at least as a part of their uniform). Also, note how one cop isn't toting a hat - could this mean more variation amongst the cops? Finally, is one of the cops barking instructions to the others there?

"You tell me exactly what you want, and I will very carefully explain to you why it cannot be."

  • Nice... Hope they have more different police cars much more than in gta4.

  • Anyone else think that red car looks a hell of a lot like a Aston Martin V12 Vantage? Obviously its not the ACTUAL car, but y'know what I mean I've said it once, I'll say it again, those police

  • I hope they incorporate CHP like cruisers into the game.

The cop in the middle looks different in a couple of ways:

1. At first glance, at least, looked maybe female. Definitely much more variation however you cut it.

2. Are those stripes on the sleeve?

Oh, and the lighting looked more like the whole lightbar was flashing (so more ELS-y, not just the "soft" default lights)

Yaaaay....

In the 6th screenshot, the number plate shows San Andreas...:thumbsup:

Update:

Also full sleeved and half sleeved officers...

But am hoping police bikes return to the game as in San Andreas..!!!

In the scene the last pic is from, there is a police chopper overhead, but the cops seem not to be trying to fill the suspect with lead. Possibly an overhauled force system for wanted levels?

I just hope they overhaul the AI in some way. At the moment it's either they chase and shout at you, or chase and go phyco on your arse and not much inbetween.

The introcuction of some police tools would be nice too. No idea what they are called in the states but in UK we call them "stingers". An extendable narrow spiked mat that pops your tyres when deployed by an officer in front of you. Would love little touches like that. If that pic of police batton goes into final game that will be good. Gta IV failed not giving police a batton by default.

The lights on the pics Sam posted do look a lot more detailed and like he said we not seen a night time shot yet.

Nice... Hope they have more different police cars much more than in gta4.

I don't really know what to tell you...

It is also something to see that this time, they treated the license plates on all the cars as being in San Andreas state, as opposed to GTA:SA's license plates, which typically corresponded to the City that the car was in.

From the official Rockstar Announcement:

We are very proud to officially announce that Grand Theft Auto V is in full development.

Developed by series creator Rockstar North, Grand Theft Auto V heads to the city of Los Santos and surrounding hills, countryside and beaches in the largest and most ambitious game Rockstar has yet created.

A bold new direction in open-world freedom, storytelling, mission-based gameplay and online multiplayer, Grand Theft Auto V focuses on the pursuit of the almighty dollar in a re-imagined, present day Southern California.

Obviously its not the ACTUAL car, but y'know what I mean

I've said it once, I'll say it again, those police cars are most likely placeholders, I don't think rockstar would reuse the models...

Although I'd be extremely disappointed if they are kept

Also, later in the trailer (at 1:07) you see one cruiser displaying the number 42 on its roof. Together with the license plates, this really points towards unique details for each car in GTA V - which would be awesome in my opinion.

Also, with only one officer in the first cruiser, but then apparently two in the second one (since there are three officers in the alleyway, and only one of the cruisers has an open passenger door), this may suggest that there are one-man-patrols too...

This could mean that there is really only one city - Los Santos - in GTA V. On the one hand, this is not such a good thing for those who hoped for San Fierro and Las Venturas in it, but on the other hand the idea of an LC-sized Los Santos with "surrounding hills, countyside and beaches in the largest and most ambitious game Rockstar has yet created" doesn't sound too bad either...

Doesen't look like placeholders, and why so disappoint?

They're awesome. Just look at that badass paintjob too.

The paintjob looks awesome, I'm just stating that every other car seems like its having a complete overhaul, so why leave the police cruisers the same?

When was the last time a GTA-III Era game carried over vehicles from a previous version?

Even if they were changed slightly, no vehicles have stayed the same.

Apparently it is focused on Los Santos and the surrounding hills.

Its much bigger than it was in San Andreas and has new districts / more freeways

I wouldn't mind it being in Los Santos. Rockstar have stated its the biggest GTA they've created yet so LS is sure to be miles bigger than its counterpart.

I don't really think the officer looks female, but I hope R* does incorporate female officers.

I am loving all of the unique license plates I'm seeing, though. Finally, no more license plates that all say the same damn thing. Hopefully.

Hopefully those police cars are placeholders because they are no different then GTA IV... and who knows they may have made this video months ago.

I hope that they bring planes back :)

Well, atleast there were planes in the trailer,

'Bout the cruiser, they don't need to create anything fancy or new, just something that really fits the best for the current GTA universe, seeing as IV had them, it's no surprise V is including Vapid cruiser. It's not like the main focus here would be the police cars in GTA V anyways. Also, it seems that V is set to the timeline of IV era, which means it makes sense to have some really same looking cars in V, doesen't look like many years would've passed anyhow, besides, the lights are changed a little.

And it's just a police car, let's not judge a game by them. There could be other police cars anyways.

It's worth noting we've seen what, 3 police cars so far? And all of them are normal patrol cars? Though they are using an older lightbar, I don't mind that. However, don't rule out Chargers and E7 concepts being out there too. Maybe a Suburban?
