I was wondering how the vehicle check is likely to work, will it be similar to the person check in that it will generate a random licence plate when we conduct a traffic stop that can be associated with the person driving?

Cheers

Yes indeed. Much like the persons details, you'll need to first generate a licence/number plate then run your checks using it.

Although a person will be assigned as the vehicle owner and there will be named drivers also. I'm going to keep it realistic, so it will list if valid insurance, MOT/vehicle safety check (I don't know if insurance and MOT are mandatory in the US, someone will need to advise me), road tax etc is held, sometimes these will show as not being renewed or even purchased. And of course a vehicle licence check will need to be added to persons check so we can check if the driver is qualified to do so.

May also include a random list of passenger details based on how many (if any) you say are in the car you stop.

But it will not list any vehicle particulars for obvious reasons.

Username: Wayne George

Thank you

Hi my I can now login with my account (Jim Brass) but when I click a couple of the links it says I need to be a Police Officer, not sure if this is related to the technical issues your are currently having, if it's a seperate issue or if I am allowed to use what it lets me use.

This sounds pretty neat! I registered, and now I'm just waiting to be authorized so I can start the Roleplaying.

Just to let everyone know, there have been some additions made to the MDC which are reserved features for LCPD members only. Other agencies (i.e. non-members) have limited access.

More information on the exclusive features will be divulged in due course.

Activated a lot of new accounts, there's now 245! New accounts will now receive an email once their account has been activated.

I've also added a breathalyser test in My Inquiries (http://mdc.lcpdfr.co...eathalyser1.php). Work has begun on the vehicle check also.

That sounds good, re the US and Insurance etc, doesn't it vary wildly from state to state?

Anyone correct me if i am wrong - im only 1 year into my degree, and i haven't really gone over this bit yet. :)

Insuance is required in all but one US state, i believe.

Most cities require emissions testing (similar to MOT, but only will test for vehicle emissions - no safety check or anything).

In New York (where liberty city is based) both emissions, and insurance is required.

Whre i live in Colorado, emissions testing is only required in certain counties. Your emissions results are required to recieve current registration for your vehicle. Therefore, if you live outside an emissions testing area, you may get registration and drive your vehicle anywhere in the state without passing emissions.

However, if you live inside an emissions testing area, you may only get your renewed registration if your vehicle passes emissions - therefore, if your vehicle does NOT pass emissions you will not hold current registration and will not be allowed to have it on the road.

Insurance is pretty simple. Every state but one requires insurance (I believe, but an not 100% sure on that). Every state has minimum coverage requirements that MUST be met in order to drive in that state - in some (if not all) states one can be self insured if they can prove that they have enough cash on hand to cover the minimum requirements.

if you reside in a state that has lower requirements, and you carry the minimum coverage, you may drive freely in your state, but are not permitted to drive in a state that has a higher minium coverage requirement.

In the states, when you are pulled over they will ask for 3 things (in colorado at least). Drivers license, Vehicle registration, and proof of insurance. All 3 of which MUST be carried in the vehicle. (reg and insurance must be in the vehicle at ALL times, even when parked - in colorado).

The officer will most likely check that all of your documents match up and are valid. - license plate - vehicle - registration - insurance. they will run your plate (which should return your current registration info - and match the vehicle it is bolted onto), and they will run your license. As far as i know they do not look up the insurance beyond checking that you have the proof of insurance.

((i was involved in an accident where the person at fault only paid for the insurance for a month or two, so that she got her proof of insurance. When it came down to getting my money to fix my car, they didnt cover her))

Laws do vary from state to state. As far as vehicle laws, most are similar but not the same from state to state, as very little legislation exists on the federal level governing motor vehicles - most is state written. Federal law will overrule state law, and state law will overrule municipal law.
