I live across the street from another city and I see them patrol all the time with crown victories and a few dodge chargers but our department recently updated to ford explorers for our patrol cars and our auxiliary unit still uses the CVPIs.

My town's police department has around 12 CVPI's, about 3 new Ford Explorers, and 1 Dodge Charger left from the 2 they originally bought back in 2010.

Around the back of a local Ford dealer, they have a few old CVPI's and one Dodge Charger. They use them for parts.

Their old vehicles were black and whites, but the newer CVPI's are painted all black, and most of them have light bars, so it's a very rare setup. The new Ford Explorers are all black, and they have a strip on the side that says "POLICE".

Most of the vehicles last about 4 years, and get up to around 180,000 miles. They beat the sh*t out of them until nothing is left, so very rarely do they get up to 200,000 miles. I was in the garage and they brought in a CVPI, and they said it was shaking the whole time while driving it up there. So they bring it up onto the lift, and the wheel completely falls off, it was actually pretty funny... So the longer they keep them, the more random issues they have. Transmission failure is the usual cause of retirement.

Going by my department's vehicle pool, I'd say the last CVPI's will be retired in and around 2015, unless they decide to restore them. They have always been mostly a Ford department, so I don't think they ever bothered restoring the Caprice's like a lot of departments did in the late 90's/ early 00's. They may with the CVPI's though.

The town you live must be pretty small to only have 16 vehicles,  but 200,00 miles, how many KM's is that? sorry I don't really understand the miles thing.

When I bought my CROWN Vic I circled the block once and poof.. no more over drive lol $1900.00 later  lol I don't think Canada beats their cars to that max lol I think cops here are 2 days on, 2 nights on 3 days off, so their cars are parked because they are Officer assigned, so compared to CVPI's in the states, mines brand new... lol

200,000 miles = 321,868 KM

And yeah, it's a medium sized town.

As for New york city department ! they are Fading out in local Departments. But Highway Patrol still use them and Long island......also in Some parts of the city they use them still....

"Chances always have a limit.  The question is when will your limit be up?" ((L.R GTa crew quote))

My (small) town has only a dozen cars in total and they replaced a couple CVPI's with new Chargers (fully decked out). I rarely see the CVPI's now as they use the Chargers whenever they get a chance. The Maine State Police still use a lot of CVPI's but they also use the new Ford Taurus (I believe they have a dozen or so) as well as Suburbans.

The departments near me are relatively small. Nearly all the active duty cars, even for highway patrol are the new "Interceptor" SUV's and sedans. There are some CVPI's peppered in, but I expect those to be gone within the next year or two. The crown vic with the plate reader has had the plate reader ripped off and put onto one of the new Interceptors.

Plate reader (for those who are unfamiliar with it):

It costs the department I'm taking courses with $21,000 so I don't blame them, I suppose.

I live in a pretty small town (Around 22,000 people)  and I think the department has about 15-20 vehicles.  About 4 years ago it was all vics but since they have picked up different vehicles here and there from almost all the manufactures of PPVs.  They now have I think two last generation Chargers, one slick top one not, two Durangos with one slick one not, I believe 4 Caprices, two with lightbars, one marked slicktop and then I've seen the chief of police driving in a unmarked gray Caprice with the darkest tint I've ever seen.  All the rest are vics, both slick top and not.

Sheriff's Office was mostly vics for patrol with a few chargers for patrol and traffic in addition to trucks for S&R and Tahoes for supervisors/sergeants but is switching to an all FPI and FPIU fleet for patrol as far as I can tell.

State Police (Oregon) was using vics a while ago but in my area of the state at least has been using almost exclusively Chargers for a while now with a few Tahoes and Expeditions.  Recently I've seen them using the new generation Chargers and just saw a new FPIU the other day.

One things for damn sure, I'm gonna miss the Vics, they're just the iconic police vehicle in my opinion.

we still have only one or two crown vics left at the local department one of them is a k9 and other is a slicktop one the sheriffs are using the interceptors and the utility suv they look pretty sick in person as well as the 2012-13 chargers for state troopers

here in palm bay we are slowly demoting them to citizen patrol :x but we still have a bunch of FHP cruisers that were converted to ECO fuel and a few sheriff cars with the full bash guard

[Example of how they look when they just replace a few decals]

[Edit] Also we have 1 2012 charger with the running board lights thats really only out when black Friday is around to direct traffic [most likely cause you can see all of the LED's from space it seems]

Funny you bring this up, because I was just talking about this with an officer this morning. He said they weren't getting the Taurus, but they already had the Explorers (which I knew about). He never told me what the CVPIs would be replaced with, though....

SCNG FTW!!

I would think the new police issue caprice or maby a newer impala since those things are spreading like roaches

I hate the Caprice. I don't see my PD using a Caprice, or an Impala.
