Tackle fleeing suspect

I would like to see a Tackle Option in the new version. I know L.A. Noire (which is a R* game btw) has an option when you get close to a fleeing ped, you can run a little bit faster and the player can jump on the ped and bring him down to the ground. The Key bind could be "W(Hold)+E" or "W(Hold)+T". You Guys could also add either have an animation to do this or (If posable) make the player fly (Like if the player were flying out the frount windshield when a player hits an object at high speed in a vehical) and knock over the ped and mabye aoutmatically "cuff em while their down". I think this would be a great adition to add to the mod. heres a video example:

Yes, But the tazer is realy buggy and rarely used, especially in an "on foot" chase. You literally have to stop chasing the suspects ant hit "ALT+T" to spawn it. Once you spawn it, you louse your actuall weapon. Sometimes I even have a nail gun sticking out the sides of my rib. It is cool and all, but it's more effective if you can just jump on them to make them stop running. I even remember seeing a video where players just use the tazer on peds because its "Funny to see them squirm on the ground like a worm". As for an animation, we now have the tools to make our own animations here: http://gtaforums.com/topic/566136-how-to-make-custom-animationsrage-engine/. The work around could be making the player launch from the ground as a ragdoll (like when niko flys from his cars windshield) grab on to the suspect who is running which would make both the player and suspect fall to the ground (Like a ped who holds on to a door handel of a car while it is in motion) and mabye add the "arrest" script when they get up. Would this be hard to do?

I like this idea a lot purely because it adds realism and variety to the mod. And yes I agree with the OP it is better than the taser.

 

I never use the taser because you have to hit Alt + T twice (once to hip it, twice to equip it) by which time you can't use it cause you have to sprint after the guy again to catch up.

Then when you do fire it the peds for me just wobble a bit and then, that's it. they don't fall over or anything. (which if several thousand volts of electricity was flowing through your body I'm pretty sure you'd hit the ground like a sack of s***.)

 

So jump tackling sounds good to me.

 

Imagine chasing an armed criminal down a back alley and diving at him just before emerging onto a busy street. Crisis saved, no casualties.

If Bravehearts policing script can add the f key to push a ped so hard they fall over several feet, I'm sure the dev's can add something like this.

 

"There was an option to do this back in .90. However, this was glitchy and removed due to no animation and the tazer becoming part of the mod."

 

Everything is glitchy to start with, it takes bug reports and time to remove them. I think this should be a feature that gets some time spent on it :)

As far as tackling goes, we gave it a shot a while back and it just didn't seem like it would ever get anywhere.  The best we could really do was put the player into ragdoll and launch him into the target, it worked maybe 3 times out of 10.

 

Something like this wouldn't be possible with animation editing either I don't think.  It would require motion capture of people being tackled from different angles, something which we can't do.

Knowing my luck I would forget to check all my other hotkey-based mods to see if they use T alone and crash something. But thanks.

Yeah adding custom animation to be fluid would take too much and like you said can't be done by yourself.

There is no good animation for a tackle, and doing one from scratch with the physics engine in GTA IV will make it look sloppy at best. As an example:

Beyond that, like it was said before, use the taser. I only have to hit ALT & T once to equip it on my belt. Then after that I can just press 'T' and that pulls it out for use.  Focusing on something like this would take time and resources away from other more important things like fixing bugs from the number of new features already added into 1.0 and would undoubtedly push back the release date much further out. With the year 2014 slowly but surely closing in, and a potential GTA V release, I'd rather see LCPDFR get one more good, solid, publicly available release before the developers move onto anything else new.
