How are Cheat Codes released?

Featured Replies

i got to thinking the other day and i wondered "How do cheat codes get discovered & posted online/printed in cheat books?" do people spend hours just typing random combinations until they get one that works or are they released from the creators of the game the day the game is released?

does anyone know who could shed some light on this? I know im not the only one who wonders this

Thank you in advance

Either by some smart people of LMS' reversing ability looking at the code of a leaked DVD, or more likely, Rockstar leaking them deliberately (usually happens with cheat codes that insiders will leak them - it's harmless).

thank you!

i realize it will take away from the game but i hope V is loaded with them! it would be nice for a return of the VC & III "Change outfit" or a money cheat or vehicle spawns, etc...

GTA V is gonna have cheats. Easter Eggs. And loads of funny skits and things. I mean, it is a G T A  game.

And how would they not have cheats if GTA was made by accident? I mean, the whole game is a cheat.

Developers.

They're used to quickly summon items in games for testing so a developer won't have to play through 8 hours of story to get an automatic shotgun with frag rounds, as an example. The developers can then either choose to remove them or not. In the case of GTA, a large part of the fun with GTA is its absurdity. You'd be taking a lot of that away if you did away with cheat codes that let you summon tanks and rocket launchers, change the weather or make all pedestrians fight each other.

Kinda. Some of them are certainly created to be absurd and fun. Like the 'fat man' codes for games based on the Unreal engine that make your character ridiculously bloated. But codes that raise wanted level, give you weapons, summon random cars, etc are primarily used as developer shortcuts and are kept in as a move of generosity. So I commend game developers that leave you with those options in their games.

I doubt it. One can probably be made if a PC version gets released by repeatedly countering the 'wanted level up' event with a script that spams 'wanted level down'.

I see it as, game developers get on some super sketchy/trojan ridden/russian/scary forums (under aliases of course) and post them, while thinking "Come and find them bitchezzzz".

Over and out.

Or they make it easy and just post them on major sites like IGN which is where the codes are now  So you can find them in 30 seconds after a google search

Or, more likely, by using a cheat engine-type program (which I *believe* basically latches on to the game as a debugger, and directly modifies memory values, though I may be totally wrong)

Depends on what the engine allows, I suppose. I haven't written anything in years, and back when I did, I wrote in VB, not anything more advanced like C# or C++.
