Regarding ELS v7 and Windows XP

Featured Replies

Greetings,

First of all , I would like to state that asking support is something I rarely do. However, like many others, I installed ELS v7 today after reading through the enitre PDF document. Everything was set up accordingly, including setting the status of the vehicles to "on" but unfortunately nothing seemed to work. I already had the most recent scripthook and Asi loader (Xliveless). Now, I came to the conclusion that it has to be something with Windows XP compability since I ran ELS v6 and other .asi mods just fine, hence this topic. Several other users have also already reported issues with running ELS v7 on XP.

If any other users are using Windows XP and are experiencing issues or no issues whatsoever, please report this here so we can work this out.

Finally, if any tester or developer of ELS v7 knows of a possible compability issue, please let me know. Perhaps a solution can be found (other than upgrading to windows 7) since all of us would like to get our hands on this fantastic product.

Kind regards,

Kjel0112

It seems that there are several people having problems with XP.

Not trying to troll, but you should seriously consider upgrading to Windows 7, even Microsoft said that XP is outdated and unsafe. Obviously, that's not the ideal solution to the problem, but just a friendly advice.

Any advice is appreciated. I do own a laptop with windows 8 but my desktop has always run XP. The problem is that you have to transfer all your programs and files to an external HDD and after the upgrade, reinstal everything. That's my main reason for not wanting to upgrade since I have a lot of games which are modded and took a huge amount of time to do so. Also, I don't know if all my components are even Windows 7 compatible.

Seeing that you were part of the testing team, do you think there is a fix for this problem? Could I or the testing team for example get in contact with Lt. Caine and ask for a solution?

I'm running on Windows 7 since ages. So I don't know a fix for this unfortunately, other than of course, upgrading to Windows 7.

The solution is to upgrade OS xD

Because you get a better OS and you have more compatibility of lots of softwares.

are you sure?

ofc you arent! same goes for everybody else. win7 has an issue with ASI key capture mods. it doesn't happen on all computers but on enough of them if you search around; its an old issue with no solution going back years (and els 5 and 6, as it is an asi mod).

the event viewer bug that has been documented does not apply to gta4 asi, so that isn't a fix like for other games where keys dont work.

since els7 broke windows xp support, i consider the release useless at this point.

Not trying to start a fight at all, but why are you saying ELS v7 is useless, just because your opperating system is out of date. If i remember correctly they stated that ELS wasn't going to be compatible with XP anymore. Why don't you just get on with the times and update like everyone else, and quit asking for help with something that we have all deemed won't work with XP.

Hey, even Microsoft is advising against using XP.

You seriously expect an almost 12 year old OS to be compatible with everything new and you're criticising Caine because ELSv7 isn't?

Seems pretty ridiculous to me.

I can confirm that ELS v7 does not work on XP or at least not on mine. I installed GTA IV on my laptop which runs Windows 8 and ELS v7 works fine on that machine.

Perhaps there is still a solution to be found but for now, I'll switch to my laptop whenever I want to use ELS v7.

useless means i cant use it.  dont they teach context in schools anymore?

no idea who you are talking to so i'll assume its me?

microsoft advises against anything that doesnt net them money. if you want to get into that discussion; i surely dont.

further, gta4 works, els7 is not a separate application. it uses exising gta loaders to function just like thousands of other mods made for this game. the only way it wouldnt work is if somebody didnt want it to or if there is some one in a million chance there is a netfx compatability (xp goes to 3.5 and vista+ 4.0, but dont quote me on that), though this is not disclosed in the documentation. You would think something like that would be said first off so we would havent these threads popping up.

now, for the bunch of people who have the key capture issue with asi mods on windows7, that makes this the 3rd version of els without windows7 support (due to no fault of caine and team so no im not blaming them at all for that)  AND the first without windows xp fall back support (which is bad news for us xp people who can't use asi in 7 for whatever bloody reason)

im just saying, no need to downplay an obvious technical issue here. it's the developers choice how they make their mods and it's the users choice how they use them and if. i have no issues staying with 6 indefenitely but when people make stupid comments like "oh man u shud upgrayed yo cuz os iz old" it  shows a level of arrogance that is beyond neccessary. Just because it works for you it doesnt mean there arent legitimate reasons it isn't working for others.

Don't need to act like that, everybody is telling you that XP is an old quite unsupported OS, there is a reason.

I don't think that it is "arrogance" when people says "you should upgrade your OS", it's just common sense.

If you don't want to upgrade, ok it's your choice, we respect that, respect those who are advicing an upgrade.

It seems that there are several people having problems with XP.

Windows XP is unsafe, that explains why all of the computers at my High School are inundated with malware and viruses. XD.

On a serious note, being an arrogant person won't get you very much help. As Break said, upgrading to Win7 or Win8 is about the only solution at this point. I had to update from XP to 7 because of compatibility issues with various other programmes and whatnot. The process may be a bit time consuming, but it will defenantly pay off. Backing up the things that you want to use right away is a quick way to get your rig up and running after freshly installing a new OS. I've done it on both my laptops and my desktop. Sometimes you just need to make sacrifices in order to do certain things. But like I said earlier, being a jagoff won't help you very much. It'll just make people want to troll you for being that way.

Glad to see there's a workaround that works for you.

I am still having problems with Windows XP and ELS v7. I was looking around and doing some tests, with only ELS stuff and no other mods, to find some clues to find out why it might not be working, and here is what i found.

1) in the "asilog" file in EFLC main folder the address for "ESL.asi" says that ELS.asi has loaded and then gives an address "Address 0x00000000" instead of "Address 0x10000000" in ELS v6.

2) scripthook.dll does not appear to be loading, as the text file does not appear in the main folder like with ELS v6 telling you everything loaded properly.

3) xliveless does not do anything.

I am not sure these mean anything, all I know is that ELS v6 works fine and ELS v7 is not working for me.

If anyone has any ideas on this that might get ELS v7 to work that would be very appreciated.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Thanks. In the meantime, I'l try and search for a solution for the other XP users. Perhaps I can still manage to get it working on XP as well.
