  • Thus proving exactly how useless the reputation system really is, he got rep for doing nothing useful whatsover, all he did was complain that he once made posts that resulted in negative reputation.

  • Nope didn't make anything "back" people should just let rep points go.

  • Couldn't agree more.

Its just a silly little number that does nothing but boost people's ego.

I wouldn't worry about it

What Harper said. It is just a silly little number, same goes for post count, or member title. It's just a status, and in a way to show your personality here on the forums. It's a bit silly making a thread about it ;)

It happens with everyone including the staff. Get +5 rep just for a simple post such as Yes or No. I think the rep system should just be taken out in general and a Thank system be put in. Like if someone finds a topic useful, they could click a button that says Thank this Person, and when they click it, that person would get notified that someone thanked their topic.

See, I'm now seeing this thread as an elaborate attempt to earn reputation.. Which counts as abuse of the system.

when i first found LCPDFR i thought it was awesome that it has it's own rep system, i didn't ask for anyone to like my comment don't see how it's abuse either, however, just made NicolaiB and Michael V just as bad as me for even commenting about it., guaranteed this topic is going to start an arguement as it always' does, shows how "mature " the IV Community really is.

Agreed, I see it as equal to as begging and telling other users to "Fix" their reputation. I never understood the basis for people attempting this, honestly, no one cares about other members having negative reputation on their profile unless it's massive (-4 is pretty damn small, compared to what others have received). It's a shame that a general basis of users have decided to give into this....

Help us, help you!

I'm considering this.

"You tell me exactly what you want, and I will very carefully explain to you why it cannot be."

The only difference between a "like" system and our current reputation system is the wording used, it's the same.

People may use it in a different context, rather than just a rep point, if that makes sense?

FCRP had (well the website still has it) a "Like" system, but the amount of "Likes" still show up on your profile. I consider the current "Rep" system here the same since it's only positive and no negative. The only real difference is that you can leave a comment with the rep.

This is what a profile looks like, if you didn't know, on FCRP:

Notice the "Likes" section, which shows all the posts that you have liked and your posts that have received likes.

who cares about your rep  like the system the way it is

it would be highly annoying everytime your on you get notice's so and so thanked you no thnkz    that way would be more annoying, rather it stay the way it is

I have a feeling / the angle the community looks at it  is the higher their rep the more of a chance they have of being staff (tester, mod)

really you build your rep by the way you act what you say and "how you treat / helpful you are towards members of the community", should be more worried / willing on the latter ( statement in quotes ) than your rep or about being staff or for that matter who has what rep and who has more

You can disable that in your notifications settings.

I can assure you that having more likes/higher rep doesn't really matter in terms of being selected for the community team. It's like the way you said; quote from Sam himself: "We only consider people who have an undeniable passion for what we've got going on here, and the people that prove to us they can act maturely and considerately to others.  I always think that the people who love the mod, love the site and love the way its grown over the past few years are the best candidates for the community team as you can always be sure their decisions will be made with the best interest of the site and mod in mind, not their own agendas."
